They need to put the gba pokemon games on the switch!

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 08:06 PM PDT

They would run and fit rather well. This would be amazing, to play fire red or Ruby on the switch. And since the switch is just one screen it could fit. I really love all the gba games and I'm positive others do too, so why not? 🤷‍♂️. Just a rant though but I do hope that it happens!

    Gamefreak misused Megas

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 05:12 AM PDT

I had this opinion for a long time and just wanted to finally say it.

    Gamefreak highly misused Megas.

Unlike Z-Moves or Dynamaxing that could have been an ongoing thing to give to older, weaker Pokémon a place in higher Tiers or just to make them more relevant overall in a competitiv sense and to make them popular. But they had it to give to already strong Pokemon and make them even stronger which led them to removing Megas entirely. Z-Moves and Dynamax are already Region exclusive things which could be explained by lore and to change things up a bit each Generation. But Megas are so awesome, they could have stayed easily if they didnt fck this up. I really loved the Megas given to weaker pokemon like Lopunny (my favorite pokemon) or Beedrill while i f.e. despise the Megas for Metagross and Mewtwo. They completly missed the strong point of Megas and instead used it as a marketing machine.

They killed an awesome mechanic. Its sad and i wish they would bring the Megas for weaker pokemon back.

    Ash’s newest catch (SPOILER)

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 04:52 AM PDT

Your ridiculous mistakes you have made in Pokemon game.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 07:33 AM PDT

I know there was a post but it was over 6 years ago and I want to know what ridiculous mistakes you have done. I will tell mine.

My first game was Pokemon Heart Gold. After the 1st gym, you were suppose to get Togepi egg from Prof's aid in violet pokemart inorder to proceed further in the game. When went to talk to him, he was saying that my party was full. I didn't know that party means your pokemon team, and the only party I knew that time was birthday party or dance party. And I couldn't proceed further because a npc was blocking route 32. So I was simply battling the wild pokemon in previous routes hoping something would happen for many days. In the process I evolved Chikorita, Pidgey and Caterpie to Bayleaf, Pidgeotto and Butterfree resp. Then one day I deposited one pokemon in PC (without knowing that I was supposed to do that) and I got the egg.

Now please do tell your ridiculous mistakes.

Bulbasaur I embroidered on my shirt !

My dad is hardcore into yellow version.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 01:40 AM PDT

So i gave my dad an NES mini and it has around 100 too 150 games loaded in for him. He has been grinding through the original generation the past 8 months. He has had to restart 5 times for god knows why. I got off the phone and learned he had used the master ball on a low level so i know thats one reason. Ive had to look up how to find specific HMs to help him. He is close to victory road now. He is very excited to capture moltre. Yes he calls moltres moltre so he has kept his master ball in the pc just to be safe. He wants all 62 of his current pokemon to be level 50 before he gets to the elite 4. He has practically mastered 3/4ths of the game from restarting all the times he has. I just thought this might be a story you guys would be interested in. Ive had to spoil that crystal comes with the kanto region in hopes he goes to it next. The game has been getting him through this insanity in the world right now. Stay safe guys and remember pokemon is for everyone.

What Pokémon did you use was so good it surprised you?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 05:42 AM PDT

When I used Staraptor in Platinum for the first time I was surprised a generic regional bird could be so godly. Intimidate crippled every physical threat so my Staraptor could tank physical attack she had no business tanking. I saw her survive many hits because of her Intimdate. Let's not even talk about Brave Bird and Close Combat spam. 100/10 would recommend.

Anyone else experience this? And with what Pokémon?

[Gen 4 Remakes] Excited Yet Afraid - Discussion

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 10:54 AM PDT

Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum - A Marvelous Story
As we all know, gen 4 has made its appearance all the way back in 2006 (2007 for the non-Japanese) and it has left the fanbase with many fond memories, which we still cherish to this day.
The very first installments of the Nintendo DS era truly left their mark behind as they took the Pokémon franchise to a whole new level.
Now, almost 15 years later, the fanbase has been craving for remakes and I couldn't wish for anything else either at this given point.
Sooner or later, I believe this will definitely happen as we have seen GameFreak releasing remakes of the previous gens as well.
However, whilst I'm absolutely looking forward to see such a thing happen, I'm also afraid that this might end up in the wrong direction, which could taint the original games severely.
In the following paragraphs, there are a several points that I would like to discuss about.

1: The Simplification of the Latest Installments
Ever since the introduction of gen 6 (X/Y), it feels like GameFreak has dumbed down the games to the point they just don't feel genuinely fun and/or challenging anymore, at all.
We all remember Diamond, Pearl and Platinum for its difficulty [insert Cynthia PTSD] and that made beating the game so rewarding.
Mt. Coronet was tough to get through and Team Galactic actually felt somewhat competent.
We weren't gifted legendary Pokémon as easily as we do now (\gives a mean look at The Lake Trio*)) and the gym leaders alongside with the Elite 4 felt like more of a challenge.
Now, as we see this trend that GameFreak has been following with its latest games, I'm more than afraid that the overall difficulty of the game will be reduced down to unenjoyable levels.
I, for one, totally understand that the target audience are children, but I strongly feel like they should dedicate these remakes to the old guard. Have us reminisce back to the good old days with every single second that passes as we play these games.
Besides, they have got to be underestimating a child's brain capacity a lot with the way they treat the protagonists in the recent games.
Maybe it's because I'm a grown up now, but I would sure as hell feel offended if I was a kid playing today's Pokémon games.

2: The Introduction of Gigantamax Forms
To start off with, I would like to dedicate the following legendary quote to GameFreak:
Oak's words echoed: ''There is a time and place for everything, but not now.''
Back in the day, I would always get frustrated whenever I was being lectured by Prof. Oak with these legendary words of his.
Now, regarding the concept of Gigantamax Forms, I agree more than ever.
Personally, I would not want any of this Gigantamax to be present in the remakes.
I feel like this concept has been the worst we have ever got in the franchise and that it should stay behind alongside gen 8.
The Pokémon designs for gen 4 were great overall, which would make me hate to see these beloved Pokémon suffering the same fate.
I would rather see Mega Evolution making its return and maybe Z-Move (not a really big fan of this one either).
Just like in ORAS, the legendaries of these remakes will most likely get a new form too.
Instead of applying Gigantamax or some sort, why not give Dialga, Palkia, Girantina (etc.) primal forms as well?
Battling Primal Dialga and actually being able to catch it would be incredibly satisfying and emotional at the same time (PMD Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky players, I see you).

    3. The Ambience of D/P/PT
The story of D/P/PT was a very serious one; the entire universe was at stake and it was up to you to stop the evil psychopath who planned on controlling all of it; Cyrus.
You got introduced to the masters of time and darkness as well as the embodiment of antimatter.
It was a well thought out story which left the player fascinated by how the Pokémon world actually works.
During my playthrough of these games, I never felt like I was playing a child's game.
This could probably also be because of the ambience that 2D sprites used to give off.
The 3D models make the world seem more childish in my honest opinion.
Obviously, I'm not expecting the 2D sprites to come back, but it really added to the tension.

    4. The National Dex
    An absolute necessity.
Looking back at the outrage of the fans when it was confirmed that not every Pokémon would make Sw/Sh, I doubt GameFreak is willing to go through the same commotion again.
A complete National Dex is a must-have feature and honestly, I don't have to add any more explanation on how vital this is.

    Conclusion
Despite the complaints, I'd like to finish this 'essay' with some positivity.
I'm more than excited to see the beautiful region of Sinnoh being displayed in Switch graphics.
Just the idea of the region getting expanded on, geographically wise, gets me pumped.
The vast mountains of Mt. Coronet, the Sinnoh Underground, the Distortion World, the Battle Frontier, the Resort Lakes and so much more.
Furthermore, Sinnoh is also known for its interesting and remarkable lore.
This would be the perfect opportunity to add more lore to the story (to a certain extent) and thus introduce even more intriguing mysteries.

Please GameFreak, you've shown how competent and creative you can actually be.
You've shown how to maintain the Pokémon franchise on a high level on the market.
You've shown how to keep your fanbase loyal, during both highs and lows.
In short, you've shown your worth and we've shown how much we still care.
It's now or never, please grant us the greatest remakes of our lives!

    - A loyal fan since Pokemon Red who's desperate

PS: I would love to read your thoughts about whether you agree/disagree and what you would like to see in the future remakes of D/P/PT!

If you are bored during quarantine be sure to check out the Pokemon Manga! It is a story that many adults would enjoy.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 06:06 AM PDT

Pokemon manga is great read for pokemon fans of all ages. It follows the story of Red who is a great pokemon fighter and the story definitely has more to it than the anime itself. It also has Professor Oak, Blue (Gary), and Green!

Many of the pokemon gym leaders are Rocket admins. Team Rocket is much more villainous than the anime with a tighter grip on the pokemon world.

Red is a very good fighter. He does a amazing job at raising his pokemon and gets stronger throughout our story. Actually has a Pokemon before setting out on his adventure!

You can actually see the pokemon in the pokeballs. Kinda cool and adds to them being Pocket Monsters! Plus, the characters used a lot of thier surrounding to give them advantages in battle!

Our boy Bulbasaur gets a lot of the spotlight! He also looks adorable in the Manga.

It isn't that long! They don't make you watch every evolution and every single gym leader. You basically get the most important parts!

You can order the books off Amazon or find them online. Just do some research! Now, Pokemon Adventure Red follows the Gen 1 timeline. They have them for every single generation and the stories are much more thought out. The main character will always be the name of the game (Gold, Rubt, ect..)

    Pleass check them out!

[Hypothetical scenario] Game Freak decided to nerf type advantages!

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 10:58 AM PDT

Basically, let's pretend for a moment that in the next games, Game Freak decided to spice things up in the game, and for some reason they decided that type advantages got to go or at least, they need to be weaker.

So now a super effective move makes x1.5 instead of x2 and a double type effective move makes x2 instead of x4

The nerf applies to the ineffective moves as well. Instead of doing x0.50 now they do x0.75 damage. The double type resistance have a x0.50 instead of x0.25 multiplier.

This is the only change in the battle system now. How do you and the competitive setting, react to this change?

    EDIT: Rephrased the resistance section.

    Am I just stupid?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 01:54 PM PDT

I just realized something. Sandshrew and Sandslash are the predator of Pikachu and Raichu. Like, Shrew's eat Mice. Ground is super effective against Electric. And the Sandshrew line is right after the Pikachu line in the Pokédex. I know people thought Meowth and Pikachu were like predator and prey, because their numbers are opposite each other in the Pokédex, and cat and mouse and everything, but I think Sandshrew was the intended predator. I just realized this and feel kind of stupid. Did anyone else know this? Did I just make a revolutionary discovery?

PM 2019 21 - Hit Your Mark, Wave Guidance! Satoshi and the Mysterious Egg!! Episode Discussion!

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 03:20 AM PDT

Wish we can ride pokemon in sword and shield instead.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 12:14 AM PDT

bikes are cool, but i rather have riding pokemon, espiecially since we have a giant openworld to explore, [3 of them now] would be nice to ride either a rapidash or even a dodrio on the wild area instead, like riding a chocobo in final fantasy XV.

espiecially if they add some extra animal riding features base on other games, like being able to jump across small ledges, hills or ram into smaller/weak pokemon out of the way and get easy experience point that way.

What’s your favorite Pokémon generation, and what makes said generation special and unique from the rest?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 10:23 AM PDT

I personally love gen 6 just for being full 3D for the first time in the series. The absolute scale of things such as the Kalos power plant is staggering. I also love mega evolution, even though it could've been handled much better. I just wish XY wasn't a cake walk. ORAS handled the difficulty much better.

Opinion: Rotom isn't good enough, we need some original Fire/Electric, Water/Electric, Grass/Electric Pokemon designs.

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 10:16 PM PDT

Like Rotom is neat, and one of its forms is universally competative, but because Rotom exists it feels like GameFreak is neglecting or avoiding making Pokemon in those typings and frankly I don't think Rotom truely counts.

For electric/water we got Chinchou/Lanturn, and then nothing apart from a Rotom form. We finally got a Electric/Ice with this generations fossil, even if it is derpy as sin.

For Fire/Electric we got nothing but a Rotom form, same with Grass. It's clear when going through what typings to make new Pokemon, they hit these types and go "Eh it's covered". When its truly not. Rotom forms imo don't "count". I want an actual Fire/Electric type with a interesting design based around that, not a ghost in an over. I want an actual Grass/Electric type with a interesting design based around that, not a possessed lawn mower.

Sure there are plenty of unused typing combos left, but these 3/4 get neglected cause they got shitty Rotom forms making them count as used. The only typing Rotom has that isn't underutilized is Electric/Flying.

Now Is A Great Time To Get Into Competitive Pokemon

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 10:32 AM PDT

With the Easter event going on, GF is setting you up to start competitive battling. Max Raid Pokemon are dropping EV boosting items, Everstones, and Destiny Knots to help EV train and IV breed competitive Pokemon. Also the Dittos you can catch have at least five perfect IVs that can help you breed competitive Pokemon even easier. I have several Dittos with perfect IVs in all stats except for Attack or Special Attack, the ideal Dittos for breeding. So now is the time to get into competitive Pokemon if you ever wanted to.

    Contrast between generations

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 11:27 AM PDT

A while back I decided to replay both Black and Black 2 as I realized I have never fully finished either's story. I had made it halfway through Black when I was gifted Sword. So I decided to play both rather than drop or withhold one. I was shocked to find that I easily made it to the halfway point in Sword in a few days while it took me much longer in Black. I had never thought of just how different the generations were in the tone of their game. Black, being more of a challenge with a great story and message, and Sword, being more varied with a large world to explore. Just thought it'd be fun to discuss other generational differences in tone and stuff.

TLDR: Pokemon Black and Pokemon Sword are very different games because they are not the same. Discuss other generational differences.

    Pokemon 2019 the anime

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 01:19 AM PDT

Yo, I don't see a lot of hype about the show. Am I the only one who thinks its actually fire?

I grew up on the original pokemon anime all the way through the battle frontier, after that I couldn't get into the show until the Kalos series started. I enjoyed Kalos but thought it was complete bullshit that Ash didn't win. I tried to get into the Sun and Moon series, but It just didn't hook me at all.

I started the 2019 series and I think it's the most different from any past Pokemon series. The things I enjoy about Pokemon is seeing a character catch as many as he/she can(Which Ash NEVER did), Or winning as many battles as they can. The new series has both of these aspects that I enjoy. Don't get me wrong there have been a few filler episodes where I was bored and wasn't excited to watch. Though, the main goal of Ash moving up in ranks, and Gou trying to catch as many pokemon as he can has really hooked me back into the series.

Does anyone else enjoy this anime more than the previous shows? Or is it just me. I really just am looking for opinions on Pokemon 2019. Thanks

    Help me with my team!

    Posted: 12 Apr 2020 07:56 AM PDT

Hello everyone in the r/pokemon subreddit. How's it going? I have a problem. Recently I've been beating every main series Pokémon game in order and I just finished Platinum. Next, of course, is Black and White. However, I don't have any idea what I want my team to be. And that's where you come in. Please help me create a team by suggesting Pokémon for me to use. In about a week I'll make another post saying which ones I'll be using. Please also suggest nicknames, and if you don't, I'll simply use your username instead. A few rules though: - No legendary Pokémon(makes it too easy) - Choose from the White Version Pokédex, as that's the version I'm playing - Try to pick oddballs that people don't usually use - Remember to suggest the starter I should pick as well

That's all. Have fun! Edit: To clarify, choose from the White Version Unova Pokédex.
