Posted: 19 Apr 2020 06:05 AM PDT Pros 1) The game is beautiful. I think it looks gorgeous and I really enjoy the graphics. 2) The EXP share being on all the time has little to no effect surprisingly. If anything, it's helping me. I was still under leveled by the 4th gym. 3) The Wild Area is awesome. The Pokémon being in the overworld and being able to see them is awesome in the whole game but especially in the Wild Area. 4) I LOVE the TM and TR difference. It gives me options for moves and makes use of collecting the watts in the Wild Area. 5) Music is pretty darn good. 6) Battle scenes and animations are good. Cons 1) Main game seems to be a little short. But I'm excited for the DLCs. 2) The routes are not really routes so much as just a path. 3) Exploration is not as fleshed out as it could've been. Places like the Galar Mines and Glimwood Tangle could have a lot more to it. 4) I don't love Hop. I don't hate him but he's not the best rival. Also, I don't like that we have Hop, Marnie and Bede. It should've just been Bede with Hop as a Dawn/Bianca (B2W2 Bianca) character. 5) Team Yell is unnecessary. They don't really have a point in the game so far. I wish they would've made them more sinister. That's my early thoughts. Granted, I only 6 hours into the game right now. But thanks for reading if you did! I'm excited to finish the game out. Edit: Also, my team is Intoleon, Appletun, Obstagoon, Toxtricity, Centiskorch and Rapidash. Edit 2: As I get deeper into the game, here are some more pros and cons in my opinion. Pro: Stadium gym battles are awesome Con: Gym puzzles are actually really cool but too simple. Con: I wish they had more trainer sprites. Tired of seeing the same person over and over again. Pro: Being able to teach old moves in each Pokémon center. Edit 3: I took a break and whipped out let's go Eevee. Holy shit this game is so cute and I love it. [link] [comments] |
My 8 year old daughter just started her first Pokémon journey Posted: 18 Apr 2020 05:41 PM PDT We just bought my daughter pokemon sword to start her journey. She has been so excited she hasn't stopped yelling about everything she has been doing. It's heartwarming to see her loving the series of game Ive loved since I was her age. Oh her starter was sobble since I'm sure that everyone wanted to know. Edit: She made it to route 3 and her sobble evolved to lots of oohs. Very first thing she said this morning was can i play pokemon. Edit 2: She beat the first gym. She said the gym challenge was a bit hard. Here is her team https://imgur.com/gallery/1C61RId [link] [comments] |

still salty over no battle frontier in ORAS to this day Posted: 19 Apr 2020 04:07 AM PDT When G/S/C were remade into HG/SS, they included major improvements added into Crystal from Gold and Silver, including the female trainer option, animated sprites, Eusine and the Suicune storyline, the Ruins of Alph areas, the Dragon's Den, post-game battle area, etc. Even though HG/SS weren't "Crystal" remakes, we still got it all. The reasonable expectation was that the pattern would be followed again, and elements from Emerald would make it into OR/AS. The Battle Frontier catches the most ire from fans because it was truly unique to Emerald. Not only was the Maison exactly the same, but we were further teased by the Frontier reference at the Battle Resort island, leading only to more speculation and eventual disappointment as too much time passed. A project I made a few years ago to imitate "Who's that Pokémon?" Posted: 19 Apr 2020 06:32 AM PDT Thought I'd re-upload it and show it off, some people might get some fun out of it =) it was a lot of fun to make and was my first experience with PHP + SQL It used to contain 700ish Pokémon but I lost the backup, so only 151 for now. It could be a lot better but it is what it is. [link] [comments] |
What is the dumbest thing you've done in a Pokemon game? Posted: 19 Apr 2020 09:42 AM PDT I'll start. As a 10 year old, my first game was Black 2. I accidentally caught coballion (didn't know he was a legendary) in my master ball. My kid brain thought, "oh, if I release it, I'll get the master ball back". Instead... No legendary, and no master ball. Redditors, what is the dumbest thing you've done in a Pokemon game? [link] [comments] |
Games Needed to Complete Pokédex Yourself Posted: 19 Apr 2020 05:48 AM PDT Mythical/event Pokémon aside, these are the games you need to obtain all the Pokémon yourself (you will still need to do trade backs for trade evolutions). -Sword -Shield -Ultra Sun (won't need to recruit Pokémon in Poke Pelago unless you get Y instead of X) -Ultra Moon (won't need to recruit Pokémon in Poke Pelago) -X or Y (Houndour family can only be easily caught in X out of the minimum needed games but it can also be obtained from Poke Pelago in US - won't need Friend Safari) -Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire (it doesn't matter which one you get but Mirage Islands are required and you will need to beat the game at least three times - or four times for a living dex of all Deoxys forms) -Pokémon Go to get Meltan and Melmetal. It's free to get them but it does require some grinding. -Let's Go Pikachu or Let's Go Eevee (it doesn't matter which one you get as you only need one to transfer Meltan/Melmetal from Pokémon Go) For a living dex of all forms... -W or B or W2 or B2 is needed for a living dex of all Deerling/Sawsbuck forms -You will still need to trade with others to obtain all Vivillon forms. There needs to be more moves like Freeze-Dry and Flying Press Posted: 19 Apr 2020 12:42 AM PDT Currently Flying Press is the only move to be 2 types (Fighting/Flying), Freeze-Dry is the only move to be strong against a type it's typing is normally resisted by, and Thousand Arrows is the only move to hit a type that it normally wouldn't (Ground type move on Flying types). They were all introduced in Gen 6 with Thousand Arrows not being learnable until the next Gen and the other 2 were shown in pre-releases so I kinda thought they were going to be followed by other similar moves. More moves like these would be nice to see. This could even go on to Pokémon themselves. Why not give a Pokémon 3 types? Dhelmise, for example, has an Ability which allows it to gain STAB from Steel type moves so why not just give it 3 types (Ghost/Grass/Steel) and let it have another ability. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 11:57 AM PDT Yeah I know it's several days late, but I just noticed that nobody had post this. They also release the image of patterns available for download, quote:
As a Skarmory lover, I would say the Skarmory one is okay, but I will definitely like it more if they utilized the eye-catching red color on Skarmory's wings. [link] [comments] |
I watched the XY anime and made a Smash Bros moveset for Clemont Posted: 19 Apr 2020 07:26 AM PDT I hadn't watched the anime since D/P but I heard that the XY anime was pretty good. I watched it and I loved it. I was bored one day and jokingly made a Smash Bros moveset for Clemont but now I unironically want him in the game. Figured I'd share it here Note: This is based on Clemont in the ANIME not the game.
Long read but I wanted to share it with this sub. Thanks to everyone who was willing to read this whole thing. Suggestions/alterations welcome [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 06:41 AM PDT Which was your first shiny?(Except encounters where you are guaranteed to get a shiny) i thought it would be a nice question to ask as everybody will have some unique pokemon to talk about; my first shiny was a shiny golbat in cerulean cave in fr/lg; i had played platinum,Soul Sliver and emerald before, never once had i encountered a shiny; as i encountererd the golbat,i knew there was something up with it but i really hated those bats for annoying me.I was low on pokeballs and wanted to store them for mewtwo; little did i know i missed something very rare; I tried to escape ,i couldnt run away; So i killed it; Sad :( [link] [comments] |
Does Pokémon ranger feel like a fever dream to anyone else? Posted: 18 Apr 2020 05:13 PM PDT I was on eBay looking at mystery dungeon games and then I remembered I used to play a game where you had to draw a lot of circles. And then it hit me: Pokémon ranger. Why does that game feel entirely like I made it up in head during a fever dream. It was actually quite fun. [link] [comments] |
About to play Emerald for the first time Posted: 19 Apr 2020 09:36 AM PDT So I have played red, blue, yellow, and silver way back when they originally came out and feel like I know them pretty well. With the lockdown I decided what better way to keep myself entertained than to buy a ds and as many games as were compatible. I bought fire red, heart gold, emerald, and platinum. I intended to play them in order to get used to the games and refamiliarise with all the different things that might have been added, a good decision seeing as how lost I was towards the end of fire red! Now, heart gold and platinum have not arrived yet so I guess next up is emerald, with how different fire red is from red, I'm guessing heart gold is way different from the original silver and gold, so emerald will be completely alien. What i want to know is, what should I be looking out for in and reading up about emerald? I dont mean like who's your favourite to use in battles but different types now in the game, what the dragon scale and kings rock are and how they're used, things like that, new game mechanics i wont have seen before. I know all about kanto (I think) I kind of know johto, but hoenn is going to be completely new to me [link] [comments] |
Dunno if this has been said already, but the Pokémon anime will go on indefinite hiatus in Japan. Posted: 19 Apr 2020 12:51 AM PDT This week's episode, episode 22 of Pokémon Journeys (still gotta get used to that) "Goodbye, Raboot!" will be the last new episode prepared on TV Tokyo's schedule. Next week and what feels like every episode after is listed as a rerun with generic cast notes. Shame too, there were some good episodes coming up that will now be delayed for months on end. OLM and Japan's overall handling (fumbling?) of the pandemic only delayed the inevitable. Oh well. The upcoming movie, Pokémon Coco, will remain on its initial scheduled release date. Posted: 19 Apr 2020 08:37 AM PDT Hey all — my gf bought a nintendo switch today and was playing Pokémon, and I was inspired to take out my collection for old time's sake. Got curious and looked around the internet, and it looks like I have a really rare Blastoise, can anyone here confirm?? I feel nervous!!! What do I do with it?? Sell it? Hold it?? Help! Posted: 19 Apr 2020 12:26 PM PDT I don't have any useful metrics, but I think we can all agree that there's been an increased focus on the multiplayer aspects of the game both from fans and the people at GameFreak. It's great for wifi battlers, breeders and dex fillers for sure but I'm wondering if that hurts these games as traditional single player RPGs. The main things I think this effects are the map design, boss battles, story and side content. Maps Every game since the Unova games has been designed for the player to pretty much just walk forwards to beat the games. Unova may look like it follows that trend but with each new HM you got, there was stuff to go back and find or previously explored areas would have new content (7 sage hunt anyone?). For the past couple of years, it's felt like we're being hurriedly escorted through the region so that we can get to EV training. Boss Battles Part of the fun of JRPG boss battles is seeing how they'll bend and break the rules for additional challenge. Warping terrain, multi target attacks, flat out ignoring the game's established conventions for giggles is the norm. This is what made Totem Pokemon so memorable, they'd have beefed up stats from the word go! The issue is that any enemy you fight and every move used against you is a an enemy you're able to a recruit and a move you'll be using against other players so boss encounters can only be so wild and wacky. There's also the fact that accommodating wifi battles limits how much they can interate and play with the battle system as a whole. You'll never see persona or Xenoblade style combat in these games as long as there's online competition to consider. Story Sun and Moon excluded, the plots of these games are pretty thoughtless because the designers "know that's not what we're here for". The characters don't fair much better, entire arcs happen off screen because these games aren't allowed to borrow from traditional party based story-telling. Imagine how much more interesting the Kalos kids would've been if you actually travelled with them and grew through the experience you shared rather than them announcing they've reached self-actualization in a cutscene. Side Content Mini-games seem to have up and vanished. Contests, Pokeathlon, Mining, musicals, movies and battle frontiers are all gone in favour of more direct ways of earning BP and items. The mantra that the reward is the item you get and not the experience you had makes these games really hollow in terms of secondary stories and content in my opinion. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Apr 2020 08:31 AM PDT Hey guys! I have a spare copy of Platinum that's been sitting around doing nothing. It's my favourite game and I've been feeling "meh" about Conquest lately so I figured I should replay it. Thing is, I'm not sure who to use! I've actually planned three different teams, depending on the started and I'd love some opinions on which one I should go for. Note: the Empoleon team has heavy nostalgia bias so I'm leaning towards that, however I also wanna use different Pokémon also. I also have another Platinum,Diamond and SS which I can trade from. Option 1: Torterra Honchkrow Gyarados Toxicroak Magmorter Porygon-Z. Apart from Honchkrow and Porygon-Z, I've never used any of these Pokémon, or picked Turtwig as a starter so it could be pretty interesting. Not looking forward to raising a Magikarp though lol. Option 2: Infernape Gastrodon Drifblim Ambipom Carnivine Glaceon. I've used infernape and gastrodon before, as well as Glaceon and I like them. Never used the other three. Carnivine is weird but I'd like to give it a go! Option 3: Empoleon Staraptor Luxray Roserade Hippowdon ? This is pretty much my favourite Sinnoh Pokémon. Piplup was my first pokemon ever so it means a lot to me. I can also breed ice and fire Fang onto Luxray. I'm really unsure on the last spot..I'd love to have a fire type but I'm unsure what the best one would be. Or maybe Rampardos? I love it and mold breaker is nice. Or perhaps I should have five and a HM Mon? I've never done that, but maybe that would work better than a full team of six. Also curious if Garchomp would be better over Hippowdon, as much as I love the hippo I've never used Chomp apart from the Battle Frontier. TLDR: which Pokémon should I use to reply through Platinum, my favourite Pokémon game? If anyone actually read all that, thanks mate haha I tend to ramble, my bad. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Apr 2020 12:50 PM PDT I see a lot of hate toward generation 5 pokemon, but I actually really like gen 5, and the black and white games will always be one of my favorites. I know that a lot of people think anything past gen 3 of 4 is just a decline, but are there any specific things about gen 5 that makes people dislike it so much? I'd love to hear opinions because I've never really understood the hate for it, and I've been in love with pokemon my entire life. Edit: I just joined this sub and came here from a separate discussion about the different generations where gen 5 was bashed in a lot. I thought I would take to reddit and see what the reasons behind the hate are, and I'm surprised by the amount of people here that actually like the gen! Thanks for all the feedback~ [link] [comments] |
Ash leaving Greninja was bull***t and a huge mistake Posted: 18 Apr 2020 04:03 PM PDT I had this thought for a very long time, but it came back to me considering all the recent things happened in the anime and in some other things related to the franchise. It's not a mystery that the final part of the XY anime was very frustrating, between Ash losing the Pokemon league at the very last and then him leaving Greninja, one of his most powerful Pokemon. But the latter got a brand new level of frustration from me when I think about how the series changed the formula with the newest series, Pokemon Journeys. In this series Ash is climbing up for the Pokemon World Championship, in order to fight and defeat Leon, the world champion, and in the mix there could also be returning characters that Ash will fight again (like the teased Korrina, in the latest trailer). This also opens to the potential of Ash using some of his past Pokemon he has at Oak's and Kukui's places, other than the ones he's getting now, and it could lead to a lot of variety in his fights. However, this is not gonna be the case for Greninja: the excuse used to release him is irreversible as much as the constrain of the Soul Stone in Avengers, there are no chances to see him back ever again, even if eventually writers wanted to change mind. Now, it's safe to say that the idea of Pokemon Journeys wasn't even planned back then, but precluding every chances to make Greninja ever returning again in the future with that ridiculous excuse was a stupid decision, and I'm afraid that by seeing how Greninja won the japanese poll.of pokemon popularity, with almost 40000 votes over Lucario, that decision could really backfire to them. Sorry about the rant, but I felt like I really wanted to share this. Feel free to express your thought on this. [link] [comments] |
Does anyone have a justified gallade? Posted: 19 Apr 2020 11:50 AM PDT Im trying to build a team, and I need a justified gallade. Can anyone help me out? It does not have to be perfect ivs or nature or whatever, I'll breed it and give it back. Also, I know this might not be the place to do that, but I don't know of any other place to post this.
