Why does gamefreak insist that pokemon games need a gimmick? Posted: 11 Jul 2020 09:02 AM PDT Gens 1-5 had no gimmick, just story mode and post game. Gen 6 they added mega evolutions. Gen 7 they added Z moves and now gen 8 has Dynamaxing . Now gen 7 did have a decent story but it could have done without a gimmick. I get they want to try something new but how about making 150 new Pokémon instead of like 60 and a gimmick. Seems lazy on their part. Also if they're out of ideas. Pokemon has millions of fans who can come up with way better ideas then they can. Id rather have no gimmick with lots of new pokemon and a long story then a 10 hour game based around the gimmick. Sure I'll get downvoted for my opinion but idc. Tired of gamefreak being lazy and rushing these easy short games out. EDIT: thanks for the upvotes guys. I honestly thought id get downvoted into oblivion or have a bunch of people hating ive gotten some good feedback. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Jul 2020 04:48 AM PDT Kanto: 8-bit Johto: 8-bit Enhanced Hoenn: Trumpets Sinnoh: Piano Unova: Drums Kalos: Synth Alola: Hawaiian Stuff Galar: AAWOOOOOOOOOOOOOO But yeah the regions are pretty different in terms of the music style. Oh and Galar definitely is full of howling in music. Just saying I like Galar's and Hoenn's soundtrack the best. Hoenn is a bit better than Galar though in terms of soundtrack. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Jul 2020 09:59 AM PDT Of course, there's no real specific reason why they should do this, I'm just surprised that with all the additional guidance (adding effectiveness of a move beneath it in batte, etc.), they haven't made additional lines (eg. Barely effective for 0.25, Hyper effective for 4x, etc.) or different sound effects for the different effectiveness hits. What do you think? Totally unnecessary, could be interesting, or something that should be introduced? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Jul 2020 01:36 AM PDT Take tyranitar for example. In almost every appearance it has made, larvitar/pupitar is unobtainable in that game without transfer/trade or it appears EXTREMELY late in the game. To the point where it'll see little use on your team in the grand scheme of things. I just wish Pokémon games were more flexible in terms of team choices, I mean Gen 3 only really has one "good" flying type that can learn fly and that's swellow. Does this bother anyone else? My partner wants to try Pokemon. Which is the best for a newbie? Posted: 11 Jul 2020 06:11 AM PDT I've been playing Pokemon since I found Pokemon Yellow at a hotel swimming pool in the 90's, but my partner has never played in her life. She expressed interest in trying it out, but I'm at a loss for which game to start her on. Do I go old school and give her my old Game Boy, do I swing for a DS and give her something more modern, should I buy a used switch? She is not a gamer and would probably do better with a more streamlined game, but which one? Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Crown Tundra Prediction - Peony Twist Posted: 11 Jul 2020 08:05 AM PDT To cut to the chase - I think Peony could turn out to be Rose's father and the former Chairmen. After his corruption was threatened to be exposed, he ran away to the remote wildness. But not to get ahead of myself, let's rewind to look at the evidence. Mustard: At the end of Isle of Amour, Mustard is quoted as saying:
This is most likely alluding to him returning in the Crown Tundra. By the sounds of it, Mustard is planning to battle someone or something when he arrives. So why Mustard would travel to the Crown Tundra? One of the possibilities, is a preexisting relationship with a Tundra character. So who better than the person who's been at the centre of its marketing campaign? Both Mustard and Peony take the similar roles in their respective DLCs, being senior experts on their local areas and being the main guide to the player. Mustard's Rare League card states:
If this was a throw-away tidbit, they could've of had his partner Pokémon dying and nothing else. But adding this mystery character of the former chairmen, seems executive, unlike Game Freak is planning to do more with it. The reason I say this former Chairmen could be Rose's father, is due to Peony's design having a family resemblance. Specially, with his wrinkled eyes and grey hair, makes him seem too old to be a brother. Some fans have argued their skin tones are too different, but this can be easily countered, if Rose's mother was lighter skinned. Is Peony old enough to be the former Chairmen?:
At the youngest, Mustard would be 60 years old, since the Trainer starting age is 10 years old. Though considering he was the fighting Gym leader, he probably sent serval years at that. Either way, an estimate of Mustard age is between 60-75. When the former Chairmen gave the offer, Mustard had lost his 18-year-long Champion title; therefore making it 32 years ago or under. Judging by appearances, Peony seems to be in his 50s or 60s. This would fit into the timeline, as Peony could both be the Chairmen and Rose's father by his late 20s or early 30s. This may be young to run a national sporting event, however this is the Pokemon world we've taking about, where Leon became Champion at 10. Rose and Peony similarities:
Rose's inability to listen lead to the Eternatus disaster, so perhaps he gained that trait from his poor influence of a father. In his official artwork and animations, Peony has a clenched fist and cheesy grin. All those traits combined: Being confident, bad listener and bold attention seeker - It's the kind of personality you could imagine a corrupt Chairmen having. Somebody who's shy wouldn't be capable of being the face of a Sport Championship. Specifics: I can't gather details about Rose and Peony's potential dynamic, on whether they're on good or bad terms. If their connection is confirmed, then Rose would have a sister. (She hasn't appeared in a trailer yet.) This unknown sibling travels around with their protective father, while Rose is busy with his own life. This hints towards negative undertones to Peony's and Rose's relationship, either the father has some favouritism or the son choose to distance himself. According to Oleana in the Sword and Shield Postgame:
Some fans may argue it contributes this whole theory, since Rose became Chairmen as a self-made man and not through his father. Though I'd like to say, this isn't guaranteed to be nepotism. Our knowledge on Rose's backstory is limited; him being a coal miner is literally everything we have. For all we know, Peony might have been long gone and had nothing to do with his son's promotion, making the two events separate. [link] [comments] |
Alright, so which big, burly, musclebound, macho mon you prefer: Machamp or Conkledurr? Posted: 11 Jul 2020 11:17 AM PDT Both these dudes fullfill similar roles: 3 stage pure fighting type trade evo that is the ace of their debut region's respective fighting type specialist who happens to be one of the Elite Four. Their stats are similar somewhat though conk has better physical bulk and slightly higher attack while Champ has higher special defense and slightly higher speed. While I like both I personally prefer conkledurr myself. He's kind of "ugly" with his big nose, grotesque veins and sunken eyes but him using concrete pillars is such a cool way to finish off his line and I really like the progression from a juvenille deliquent construction worker holding a plank of wood to a bad old dude strong enough to swing pillars of concrete with each arm. The "clown nose" isn't that(his line are not strongmen clowns, but construction workers) but moreso based off "gin blossoms" as they're called: swollen puffy noses associated with heavy drinkers due to burst capillaries inside the nose, probably due to construction workers drinking a lot, at least in Japan I guess. The lore about them teaching humans to make concrete is really neat as well. As iconic as Machamp's 4 arms are, I feel like Conkledurr's design while not attractive on the surface has more interesting details and depth put into it. If there is one thing I'd add to conkledurr is maybe giving it a signature move that uses its pillars. Stone Edge only sort of works and it's a shame there really isn't a move that incorporates the pillars themselves as a basis. [link] [comments] |

I’m back again! What’s your favorite region? Posted: 11 Jul 2020 06:49 AM PDT I posted on here asking what people's favorite Pokémon was, then their least favorite, now we move on to regions! Mine is a tossup between unova and hoenn, I really like MOST of the unova Pokémon, and my favorite Pokémon is from unova, but I also REALLY like the weather trio and I usually pick my games based on legendary, but I just can't decide, I picked omega ruby because that's what they had at the sale I went to (for only $30) but I still don't have an original copy, I think I'll go with ruby since my cousins have sapphire and emerald [link] [comments] |
Best Pokémon game for completely new beginners Posted: 11 Jul 2020 07:27 AM PDT A completely new beginner is someone who knows nothing or almost nothing about the Pokémon games. Therefore, I believe that they should avoid the Generation 6+ games because gimmicks such as Mega Evolutions, Z-Moves, Gigantimaxing and Dynamaxing are too complicated for completely new beginners. The mainline games from Generation 1 to Generation 4 provide an old-school, traditional experience so they are likely to be the most suitable games for completely new beginners. The mainline Generation 5 games provide an experience that is neither too old-school nor too modern. They could allow completely new beginners to go backwards towards the more old-school Pokémon games or forwards towards the more modern Pokémon games. [link] [comments] |
Playing through Gen V for the first time. Here's my experience so far Posted: 11 Jul 2020 02:19 AM PDT I'll give some info on my Pokemon history. I started with Gen II (Gold, favourite Gen), played and loved Gen III (Sapphire, FireRed and Emerald), skipped Gen IV and V due to Pokemon not being "cool" anymore when entering high school. I got genuinely interested in Gen VI due to 3D, so I picked up Gen IV (Platinum) and while I don't remember much of it, I did enjoy it. Played Gen VI (Y, AlphaSapphire) and liked it, skipped out on Gen VII just because busy life and I was still getting through AS. And picked up Gen VIII (Shield) and quite enjoyed it despite the problems and decisions. So basically Gen V and VII I have never played (Gen I too, but having played FireRed I don't think I will ever play them). I borrowed my friends White version and thought I'd give my thoughts on it. All my Gen V knowledge comes from Pokemon Masters essentially, so I know most of the Gym Leaders and about half of the Pokemon from playing VI and VIII. With that, I decided I'd go for Oshawatt and Hilbert and save Snivy for the sequel. Right off the bat I notice that story is really at the forefront. From the opening movie, to the amount of talking that tales place. It's not a bad thing of course, but something I noticed. Cheren and Bianca seem really interesting, though I think I have bias for Cheren due to his characterisation in Masters. I'd always heard or figured they were annoying rival characters but so far they aren't annoying. They do seem to have a lot of battles, but I'm not complaining, their music is catchy. Speaking of, the music in this game is phenomenal. From what I've heard of the Gen V music previously, I've always liked it and it's soundfont, but actually hearing it while playing it is a whole different experience. As for the Pokemon, only having Gen V Pokemon is an interesting choice. Obviously some Pokemon were made just to be counterparts to Kanto and the others. I remember this being a complaint, but I quite like it. So far I'm just catching, only adding a Pokemon to my team when I beat a Gym Leader. And boy oh boy did I struggle with the Gym Leader. I faced Cilan, who I recognised as Ash's companion in the anime (though I never watched those seasons). I was gifted a fire monkey to use, but a) I'm only trying to face it with Oshawatt right now, and b) I'm not a big fan of the monkey trio. Obviously I'm at a type disadvantage, so I had to overlevel and get lucky crits with Focus Energy. The amount of losses I had, yikes. But I finally prevailed. Now I could finally add to my team. After witnessing the Bianca/Plasma/Munna event, I encountered a Munna, decided it was too cute, and added it to my team. I've gone through the next route, done Cheren/Plasma part. Team Plasma are creepy honestly haha, I think it's the way they speak about Pokemon and liberation. I dunno just gives me weird vibes, even though they're obviously bad guys. I'm just about to enter the next city, but so far my experience has been positive so far. I only wish I could speed it up at times when entering and running from a battle, but that's the only complaint so far. I will probably continue posting my journey with it and the sequel. Speaking off, since I have White, should I be playing White 2? My friend gave me Black 2 saying it was the one you had to play due to the legendary N has but I'm not sure. Either way, would I miss much if it's not the proper sequel to play? [link] [comments] |
Who has the best battle theme in Pokémon and why is it Cynthia? Posted: 11 Jul 2020 09:34 AM PDT I mean really. She truly does have the best one. Others are good, like most of Unova, specifically Elite Four, Gym Leaders in BW2, and Reshiram/Zekrom. A good chunk of Sinnoh. But hands down, there is not beating Cynthia. You don't need to read this part, I'm inflating the word count so that I can actually post this since I can just succinctly state the facts. [link] [comments] |
Question about card value. Any advice is appreciated. Posted: 11 Jul 2020 05:38 AM PDT My mom recently found my Pokemon card binder from 2000. And I was wondering if some of the cards were worth anything. I have a couple holographic cards: A Lapras, Venusaur, Hitmonchan, Gyrados, Muk, Wigglytuff & a Meowth. I haven't done anything Pokemon related since I left highschool, except for play the Gameboy games for nostalgic reasons. I honestly forgot about the binder. That is until I saw that guy pull a Charizard here on reddit worth $55.000. Thanks for your advise and help in advance and here's to catching em all! [link] [comments] |
I’m playing Soul Silver for the first time, and I need some suggestions. Posted: 11 Jul 2020 11:15 AM PDT A great friend of mine died recently, and I got this game to honor his life and remember him. (He played Silver and I played Gold as kids.) I've played through Pokémon Blue, Yellow, Gold, Crystal, Ruby, Diamond, and recently Let's Go Eevee and Shield. I tend to be more traditional (grind and level up the best team possible as early as possible) and try to avoid newer, more competition-centered philosophies. Anyone have a good recommendation of an in-game (no trades) team I can get in Soul Silver? Move sets would be awesome too, but any advice would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Best apps for a Pokémon layout? Posted: 11 Jul 2020 11:00 AM PDT I want to do a Pokémon layout for a future Pokémon let's play on my channel, but it seems as most people recommend photoshop. I, on the other hand, can't pay for photoshop. Do you guys know any other app or editor that can work? Either for IPad or Windows. Tks in advance [link] [comments] |
What is the best representation of the anime in a Pokémon game or rom hack? Posted: 11 Jul 2020 10:24 AM PDT I'm looking for the best version of any Pokémon game (GB, GBC, GBA, or DS) that's most true to Ash Ketchum's journey. I've heard of Pokémon Ash Gray, Sunset Orange, and of course just Yellow for the GB. But I want to know what everybody thinks is the definitive one. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
New idea on Pokemon Collecter NPC Posted: 11 Jul 2020 02:46 AM PDT While doing shiny hunting, suddenly I got thinking that all shiny hunters should be grouping as Pokemon collecter. Now, this is an idea I have come with which Game Freak should implement that all Pokemon Collecter NPC should have shiny pokemon for their ingame (excluding Battle Tower-like) team. But on other side, maybe doing this going to piss off some of pokemon fan who doing shiny hunt but never got one. [link] [comments] |
GroundLocke of emerald for ground type month Posted: 11 Jul 2020 06:06 AM PDT I love sand, its rough, its course, and it gets everywhere That basically describes what we're doing today. Ok goodbye. Ok yeah I'm kidding . Today I started my ground only emerald nuzlocke, why you ask, Rules: If a pokemon faints, its dead I can catch shines but not use them if they aint ground type Ok lettuce begin!! So I start the game and name myself Hybrid Then I look up to see I'm in a moving van. Wtf mom!! I AM NOT A PACKAGE I'll show her. *Hybrid used Dynamite* *Hybrid broke out of the moving van* Anyways…. I go set the clock and try to steal Mays pokemon I hear screams, and when I go to check it out, I see a grown man getting mauled by a level two zigzagoon, he screams at me to take one of his balls He then, specifies POKEBALLS and I grab one. I chose mudkip because he becomes a ground type And beat the crap outta a zigzagoon And of course tackle misses twice in a row because if its not 100% accurate its 50% accurate. Birch lets me keep the mudkip and I nickname him Fin I grind the hell up because the nuzlocke hasn't started yet. I aproach May to ask her on a date. Then I ran away because I wanted to get water gun I didn't get it So I asked May on a date and shes totally oblivious and fights me I get pokeballs and the nuzlocke officially begins I got Fin to level 10 and he learned water gun, or as I call it, I am forced by invisible rope to help the weirdest kid ever, Wally, catch his first Pokemon. I fight every trainer cus I wanna evolve mud kip so he is an actual ground type, I get to petelburg forest and save Thats all!
I just liked doing this it was fun!! ill do more! [link] [comments] |
