This week's Pokemon is Runerigus!

#867 Runerigus (Japanese デスバーン Deathbarn)

Grudge Pokémon

A powerful curse was woven into an ancient painting. After absorbing the spirit of a Yamask, the painting began to move. Never touch its shadowlike body, or you'll be shown the horrific memories behind the picture carved into it.

Runerigus's Base Stats:

HP: 58
Attack: 95
Defense: 145
Sp. Attack: 50
Sp. Defense: 105
Speed: 30

Introduction:

Runerigus fortunately has access to Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes to support the rest of the team. In combination with this, its defensive typing coupled with its defense stat can deal with some notable physical attackers. Unfortunately, there are other Pokémon that fill a defensive hazard setter role and do it much better. Runerigus lacks any offensive presence due to its low attacking stats, so it can't threaten the opposing team well. Its ability, Wandering Spirit, can reap huge benefits by rendering an opposing Pokémon's ability useless. However, in order to use it effectively, the opposing team must be reliant on its Pokémon's abilities for swapping them to matter, making it situational. Runerigus has the potential to shine as a defensive option, or maybe even completely flipped to be on a Trick Room team in order to become an offensive monster. It needs to be given the right tools to stand out.
