Just finished Pokémon Conquest. Very underrated game

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 11:06 PM PST

I'm sure I'm not the first to say it here, but Pokémon Conquest was a fun and different take on the series. Considering how much I like SRPGs it is surprising it took me so long to check the game out. I may even check out the original series, Nobunaga's Ambition, sometime.

Still if anyone is curious give the game a shot. It isn't too expensive (and with how DS RPGs have been getting pretty pricey and sought after lately, that probably will not last for long) and is fairly simple to understand. It is relatively easy, but who is suprised to hear that about a Pokémon game?

For anyone who has played the game, how much fun did you have conquering Japan Ransei with an Eevee and a Jigglypuff?

I'm doing a monotype Dragon run so far in Ultra Sun to commemorate Pokemon's dragon type month. It's the toughest run ever

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:02 AM PST

The first dragon I had was a Noibat after clearing 1st trial. It is decent for now, but would be awful soon. It is simply a special attacking version Zubat, except that unlike Zubat, it only evolves at level 48. Currently at level 20.

Then, I caught Bagon in Route3 after searching for an hour. SOS doesn't give me the infamous level 9 Salamance, hence I only have a Bagon. It is a good mix attacker (more so physically), but not so fast or bulky. Need to grind it and level it up, after which I would have a mighty Salamance. Currently at level 15.

Now, I am looking for my 3rd dragon, and from what I have heard, the next one available would be Goomy. It could be a great special tank, but is available only after clearing Mallow's trial

So, I need to clear 3 tough trials (Totem Araquanid, Totem Alolan-Marowak, Totem Lurantis) with Noibat and Bagon. Noibat could help me with Araquanid and Lurantis using flying moves. Alolan-Marowak will destroy my team unless I hyper grind Bagon to level 30 and it evolves to Shelgon.

I have been playing Pokemon for 15 years, and trust me this is my toughest challenge ever. But, I'm sure that it would really be worth it in the end once my team is complete. I'm planning a final team of Salamance, Goodra, Turtonator, Garchomp, Kommo-o and Naganadel.

If we're ever going to have another Kanto remake, I want it to be set before the invention of the Pokedex

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 07:49 PM PST

If we think about all the constants we've had throughout the history of Pokemon, we have the Pokedex, Pokeballs, potions and all this other advanced technology that we've all come to take for granted in the series. What if we got to witness the development of all these gadgets and the history of Pokemon in a Kanto remake?

It would be wonderful to establish some lore behind everything. You could witness a younger Professor Oak and his colleagues develop a Pokemon encyclopaedia and have you document as much as you can with photographs and such. Have some side story elements of people still understanding the risks of owning a Pokemon, with the obvious being things like house fires and electric shock from their respective typings. And it would be amazing for little cameos of younger versions of already established characters like Red's mother and maybe even work out what happened to his father.

I feel like there's a lot you can do with this idea, even if someone made a spin off game of this idea it would be super fun and immersive for the Pokemon universe we've all come to love

Why Diantha is so hated by everyone?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 05:43 AM PST

Like seriously, I think it gets undeserved hate everywhere. The kalos games don't get any love either by the comunity or gamefreak. Why GF was going to release a Pokemon Z if all that people did with X and Y was to cry because it was easy and the sprites were better. Kalos didn't get a chance to shine being the only gen without a third version or a sequel.

Now, let's focus on Diantha. First of all her theme is AMAZING. The kalos league in general is probably the prettiest. Her desing is great and in all the champions, I think she has the most interesting team: Hawlucha: Representing the action movies. Aurorus and Tyrantrum: Representing historical movies. Goodra: Representing animation movies. Gourgeist: Representing horror movies. Mega-Gardevior: Representing romance movies.

The problem is that Kalos never got a chance to shine, and she is usually shadowed by Cynthia, because she is more popular. You can battle Diantha in X and Y while you can battle Cynthia in DP, Platinum, Black and White, Black 2 and White 2, Sun and Moon and Ultrasun and Ultramoon. GameFreak knows Diantha is so hated that why are they going to put a battle with a hated Champion, when they can put the same battle you had in 6 games already with and overrated and popular champ.

I'm not saying Cynthia is bad or anything tho, she is overrated but it totally shadows Diantha and doesn't give her a oportunity to shine.

Imagine... a world were Pokémon are RARE

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 04:52 AM PST

"You start your journey and while you walk around the first route, its quite silent, then you suddenly hear the grass next to you shaking. You of course go there only to find a Rattata, you decided to capture it. Even if the Rattata is not your favourite kind, it could take 20 minutes until you see the next pokémon!

Imagine you fighting the second gym with only five pokémon. Because you only found four pokemon, in return every pokémon is a valueable team member. The reason other trainers have only three pokémon, is because they also had less catching luck

Imagine in a town next to the sea is a attraction were you take a boat for a fee to fish in a area. Mostly you only fish rubbish, but if you are lucky. You find a Magikarp, or a Luvdisc. Both rather terrible pokémon, but if you do not take them, who knows how long it will take until you get the next fish. 10 minutes? 30 minutes?"

I want to present this idea so pokémon are valueable and not worthless like in lets go, while it would make looking after pokémon harder, it would make EVERY pokemon special. Or imagine looking into each rubbish bin, because there may be a poison type, and even if you only get a trubbish, a species you may hate, its still a Pokémon you found and if you do not take it, who knows how long it will take until another poison type will appear

Or imagine you hearing rumours about a Pokémon in a Pokémon center, that only likes a certain kind of berries, then you go out of your way of buying the berries and then you go all over a route with the berries on your hand, and then you get your prize: a Aipom jumps down from the trees and maybe, if you are not too agressive, it even joins you without problems

I think it would make Pokémon more fun and it would sell the idea that you bond with your pokémon, because every pokémon has a story on how you caught it

I would like to discuss this idea

    Your favorite early route Pokémons?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:58 AM PST

For years, my traditionnal way of playing is to find six Pokémon as early as possible to build my team. Usually, by gym 3 or 4 I have my team that I will take until the end game. As such, I am really fond of early route Pokémons: anything you can catch before the first gym (and before the Wild Area for Gen 8 because otherwise there would be waaaay too many choices). Which one do you guys like?

Gen 1: has to go to the Nidorans. Cool design and powerful final forms. Classic stuff. I like Butterfree NOW because of its Gigantamax form but I was more a fan of Beedrill in the old days, sadly it wasn't very good.

Gen 2: I have a soft spot for Ariados! I took one all the way 'till the end of Crystal! Hoothoot isn't bad in Gen 8 with all the improvement its recoeved but it was underwhelming back then so I'm not big on it. Ledian looks cool but is useless.

Gen 3: ALL of them! This is the gen where I could have a full team before the first gym and never regret it! Gardevoir, Ninjask, Breloom, Swellow, Pelliper, all in my top 100 Pokémon and all can be obtained that early! Masquerain, Shiftry, Linoone, Mightyena, Ludicolo, all solid picks as well! Gold star!

Gen 4: who doesn't like Shinx? Or Starly? Roserade is badass as well.

Gen 5: I like Purrloin, Patrat and Lillipup more than the average player, but in general, for BW I don't really start really building my team until after the first gym. I also try to avoid using the same Pokémon as my rivals (with a few exceptions) so I don't want to overlap with Cheren's Liepard and Bianca's Stoutland so that limits me further. Pansage and Simisage are the best of the monkeys BTW but they work better with easier access to berries.

Gen 6: I love me a Vivillon and a Talonflame! You can also get Azurill and Dunsparce before taking on the first gym so that's fun! I think you can get Burmy too and I became fond of it in my Mono-Grass run.

Gen 7: I don't like any of the new Pokémon you can get before the first trial. Vikavolt is good but not if you need to wait to Poni Canyon to evolve it.

Gen 8: Corviknight is SO cool! And Dubwool with Cotton Spore and Body Press will wreck house!

That's it for me. What about you guys?

What's your favorite no-name NPC dialog?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:42 AM PST

In every game, there are nameless NPCs that populate the overworld. In towns and routes, houses, Pokemon Centers and Marts, these NPCs don't have much to do but be flavor text and make the world seem lived in.

Some just spout tutorial text, but others have a bit more personality, talking about their pokemon or just making funny comments. What I want to know is, what's your favorite line from an NPC? What random person in one of these wonderful games said something that sticks in your memory or made you laugh?

Keep in mind, I'm not asking about trainers, most of us have seen almost every opening and closing line from those. I'm talking about the people you don't have to talk to and don't battle, but have interesting things to say if you do decide to speak to them.

Two of my favorites are in Lilycove City. In the original Ruby and Sapphire, there's a child NPC in the Contest Hall that's freaking out because they attempted to give their pokemon a bath to make it's fur look nice for the contest, but it came out looking all scraggly. There's also a male NPC on the ground floor of the Lilycove department store looking to buy a present for his Azumarill because it won him a contest.

The little snapshots into the lives of other trainers and their pokemon make me smile.

What about you guys? What random NPC lines do you remember?

    Is Eternatus an Ultra Beast?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:22 AM PST

If it came from space, then it could be an Ultra Beast, right? Ultra Beasts are from far away, like far, far away. I know it probably would never be officially called an Ultra Beast, because that was Pokémon Sun and Moon's thing? But Eternatus could be an Ultra Beast, right?

Mega prediction: Gen 9 will also not use a traditional Gym system

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 06:41 AM PST

While primary gameplay loop will primarily be the same for the past 20 years, the secondary loop (i.e the gym will take a newer approach).

and is not gonna be a island challenge kind of thing, either.

they may still call it gym, but the factor here is that is not gonna be another beat the 8 boss in a specific order.

is another new approach while still using the same primary gameplay loop we've been playing for the past 20 years.

the reason is that the newer third person and bigger overworld, and the death of the route layout, is gonna be the standard for the next pokemon game and gamefreak want to find a newer format to basically capitalise on that overworld.

maybe this is the one where you finally can take on gym at any order, maybe gyms are more battle frontier-esque with some sort of gimmick with the battle, or maybe the bosses are more diverse in their types.

whatever it could be, the real purpose is to distant itself from sword and shield, while also keeping sword and shield not totally obsolete by being a more pure vanilla pokemon title while gen 9 is alot more spicier in comparison, but like spicy food not everyone would really want that, so sword and shield is still here for you

dexit is still a thing tho...

As a returning fan, I think Alola is my new favorite region

    Posted: 28 Nov 2020 01:28 PM PST

I've spent the last couple of months playing Omega Ruby and Ultra Sun. I just want to say how much I loved the Alola region. My last Pokemon game was Diamond back in the day, though I have replayed Emerald a few times in the interim. Prior to this, Hoenn was definitely my favorite region as I consider Emerald to be my favorite Pokemon game.

It just had so much life to it and I think the Hawaiian aesthetic really breathed a lot of character and energy into game. Some of the reasons I really enjoyed my time were:

I just thought the whole resort vibe throughout the region made it feel a lot more relaxed and easygoing vibe which was also reflected in characters like Kukui and Hau.

Overall, with some exceptions like Lusamine, I felt Alola boasted a really likable and grounded cast. The island kahunas and trial captains in particular didn't have the same over-the-top flair that we often get from Gym Leaders and Elite Four.

Instead, they just felt regular folks who also happen to be trial captains and kahunas. It also made the whole region seem a lot more cohesive when you would see the different captains and kahunas interact with each other, in contrast to previous games where that is less common.

That cohesiveness also made the story have a more of an impact especially when the Ultra Beasts attack the region and we get a glimpse of the kahunas standing up to them across the reigon. This again feels different than games like Emerald, where it feels like its just you and Steven trying to save the world from Groudon/Kyogre and nobody else seems to really care.

I also really liked the idea of Kukui setting up the region's first Pokemon League. It felt really satisfying knowing that you were not just the reigning Champion, but also the first Champion. Not to mention the idea of title defense battles was something that the franchise has needed for years.

    iOS games?

I was just wondering if there are any iOS games that mimic those on the DS of game boy. I'm just looking for something I can take wherever I go without having to whip out a DS. If not, is there any way someone can point me to an exciting game that is pretty popular? Looking to get back into Pokémon after a long hiatus. Not too interested in Pokémon go also. Pokémon names that are pronounced in more than one way

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 11:27 AM PST

Regice is the one of the most confusing Pokémon names to pronounce because it is inconsistent with the style of the names of the other Regis. It can either be pronounced as "Re-jice" or "Re-jee-ice". The problem with Regice's name is that the I in its name functions as the I in "Regi" and the I in "Ice". I wish Regice's name had two I's rather than one to help English speakers pronounce it properly and make it consistent with the style of the names of the other Regis. For example, it should have been "Regiice". This makes sense because Regieleki's name has double vowels.

Arceus' name is pronounced in at least two different ways. It is either pronounced as "Ar-kee-us" or "Ar-see-us". "Ar-kee-us" is apparently the official pronunciation.

Rayquaza's name is also pronounced in at least two different ways. It can be pronounced as "Ray-kwa-zuh" or "Ray-kway-zuh". "Ray-kway-zuh" is apparently the official pronunciation.

An official guide for pronouncing Pokémon names has been posted to Smogon's forum.

    Mimikyu's Song Removed?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 10:31 AM PST

For those of you who don't know, when pokemon Sun and Moon came out, a promotional video was posted on youtube containing a short music video of a song known as Mimikyu's Song or Mimikyu no Uta in Japanese. This adorable song quickly became one of my favorite pieces of music to listen to until I listened to it so much that it eventually got old.

Today, I suddenly remembered this song and decided to look it up on youtube for a good old nostalgia trip, but to my surprise, the official video, originally uploaded by "The Official Pokemon YouTube Channel", has been removed or unlisted. I was completely shocked to see this but was, fortunately, able to calm down after finding the footage of the video I was looking for in unofficial uploads. However, I am still not able to shake the eerie feeling and sheer curiousness of what might have prompted this event to occur in the first place.

Does anyone know what happened or might have happened to cause the removal of the video from the official channel? I do remember there being a playlist on the channel that had a few other songs such as the Magikarp Song and the Slowpoke Song, which both still exist. I could not find the playlist either, so I do think some other songs might also have been removed, but I can't confirm this since I'm not super familiar with any of the other songs.

    Most overrated mainline game

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:32 AM PST

The title says it all, which game do you think is the most overrated? My pick is b/w. N is cryptic and confusing. Team plasma turns out to be a generic evil team instead of being interesting at the end and I'm just not a big fan of unova. To top it all off I find the gen five music hits different meme to be downright annoying.

The weird side of the core series games: glitch Pokémon

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 07:32 AM PST

I have encountered two of them, ?????????? and -----. I'll tell you how I encountered them (plus the Bad Egg in battle)

While I was playing a hacked ROM of Emerald called Glazed, I had to wonder what would the encounters be while surfing in the waters in Cherrygrove. That's where my curiosity starts to spark, and encountered a ?????????? (that's its name). I ran, maybe it was just garbage data interpreted as a wild mon, but every time I surf I always encounter a ??????????, and I haven't activated any cheats. Plus, it was set to level 0 or something.

----- is another glitch mon I have encountered while playing B/W. Very curious of what's down there at the Dreamyard because it was my first time playing the game, I went there and encountered -----. At first, maybe I broke the game because I wasn't supposed to go down there in the first place, but then changed my mind after seeing countless -----, since the wild Pokémon hasn't yet defined in the game until postgame.

Cue B2W2 while messing with cheats because I wanted to hack in a Mew and found something: a wild Mew and a Bad Egg -- in battle. The wild Bad Egg's moves are Tackle and nothing else, and I was just plain speechless that Bad Eggs can be encountered in battle, so much that Bulbapedia has an article about encountering Bad Eggs in the wild.

What a shudder, I'd swear to myself I would not cheat again after reading every article in the website lol. Feel free to share your encounters with glitch Pokémon.

    Pokemon Y Crashes

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 10:49 AM PST

Hi guys, I'm having a weird issue where my Pokemon Y game crashes every time it tries to load the exeggcute. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or has a solution. There's a TLDR if you cba to read this (honestly I'm rereading this and I'd recommend it sorry lol)

The story starts like 5 years ago when I got back into Pokemon after a few years of not playing since black and white. I had a 3dsxl and bought Pokemon Y from a second hand shop (it's called cex if your interested) and started playing it. I beat the game, battled and traded with some friends and then decided to complete the Pokédex. I had done pretty much everything else in the game and I wanted the shiny charm. I started off through the early routes but then my 3dsxl broke (when I turned it on the screen flashed white and turned off with a pop). I tried to fix it but it didn't work. I was pretty upset about it for a while but eventually moved on. I still liked Pokemon, watched anime and other people play nuzlockes and other stuff. I considered buying a switch but couldn't justify the cost so decided I'd buy a second hand 3ds. I was planning on getting one quite cheap when I met up with my cousin who offered me his old one which I gladly accepted. I got home and booted up the game and got back to dex hunting. After running around catching everything I saw I decided to do a more logical method. I created a list of all the Pokemon I had caught, had a pre-evolution (or evolution of) and ones I hadn't seen but are in the region. I then researched their location and how they evolve. When I got to exeggcute in the dex my game crashed. I thought that's weird but okay I'll get back easily. I went on about my data collection and went catching. Eventually I decided to organise my boxes and when I tried to select exeggcute my game crashed. I thought 'hmmm that's sus but could be a coincidence'. When I booted up my game again I tried exeggcute again and lo and behold, it crashed. I was fortunate that I had caught and evolved exeggcute back 5 years ago or else my dex hunt would be over. Anyway, I continued my hunt and one day decided to do some wondertrading because it's a bit of fun (ps if you wondertrade in gen 6 and receive a Pokemon called "spice up the WT' it's probs from me. I try to increase the good:bad Pokemon ratio in the WT pool). One of the Pokemon I received caused my game to crash which I can only assume was exeggcute but I can't say for certain. Now the reason I'm posting this is because it's starting to get frustrating. Earlier today for example, I was levelling up some pseudo-legends and just finished evolving them. I thought 'nice, I'll just put these guys away in the pc and then call it a day'. But when I was putting someone away I accidentally passed my curser over exeggcute and BOOM a few hours WASTED. (If there's a quicker ways of levelling up 'mon than just battling restaurants and E4 I'd like to know). This triggered me and now I want to fix the problem. Realistically I could just be careful not to go near exeggcute and save more frequently but I'd like to eliminate the problem entirely. I'm not sure if it's the 2nd hand cartridge, 2nd hand 3ds or just wear over time but if anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them. I don't really want to meddle with the cartridge but if it's not too intricate I might be open to it. PS for you real ones who read this, it'd be very cashmoney of you to point out if I missed anything in the TLDR /

TLDR: I have a 2nd hand 3ds and cartridge and whenever the game tries to load exeggcute's sprite the game crashes be it in game, in the PC or over WT. I caught exeggcute several years ago so I'm assuming it's a new problem (I got the 2nd hand 3ds recently to replace my old one). Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks

    Question about friendship evolutions.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:05 AM PST

So I'm playing in Pokémon Emerald at the moment, and I'm riding my bike between two towns quickly. If I keep going until an egg that I just got hatches, would my Golbat, that's level 28 and has only fainted three times give me enough to evolve into Crobat?

Anyways, I need to get this thing to evolve because having Golbat for an incredibly long time is really annoying me, and I wanna use Crobat. Plus, I don't want it to evolve in the elite four like most people, so help me with this please.

When I was 10 my mom took away my 3DS with pokémon X. Today I found it in the garbage. Wow mom, you are really good hiding thing. Anyway you may be guessing why I used the flair discussion. I just wanted to ask if it is still possible to get some mithicals. If yes, how? Also can I still try to download pokémon bank? Thanks in advance!
