This week's Pokemon is Darmanitan!

#555 Darmanitan (Japanese ヒヒダルマ Hihidaruma)

Blazing Pokémon

The thick arms of this hot-blooded Pokémon can deliver punches capable of obliterating a dump truck. This Pokémon's power level rises along with the temperature of its fire, which can reach 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Zen Mode

Zen Charm Pokémon

Through meditation, it calms its raging spirit and hones its psychic powers. When wounded, it stops moving. It goes as still as stone to meditate, sharpening its mind and spirit.

Introduction:

Darmanitan became a shadow for its Galarian counterpart when it was announced for SwSh. This is because of Galarian Darmanitan's access to Ice-type coverage on top of the Fire-type coverage it would have usually lost as a result of changing type, but more importantly, because of Gorilla Tactics, which works as Choice Band in ability form. Even Galarian Darmanitan's Zen Mode is far more reliable than Unovan Darmanitan's. At least they share the same base stats in their regular forms, boasting monstrous attack and a great offensive movepool to abuse it with. Unovan Darmanitan can do a lot of damage with the Sheer Force + Life Orb combo, especially when chucking Flare Blitz at its opponent. It is also not confined to one attack choice until switching out unless you also opt for a Choice Scarf set, which is also not a bad idea given its mediocre speed. Unovan Darmanitan is still a force to be reckoned with, but Galarian Darmanitan has gained advantages that Unovan Darmanitan could only dream of.
