Ten years ago today, "Pokémon: Black & White" games released in North America! #Unova10

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 04:00 AM PST

While Diamond & Pearl have been the center of attention here for the last week, we absolutely need to take a moment and celebrate a huge milestone for Black & White which released in North America ten years ago today!

It's wonderful (and a little scary) to see how old these games have become and how more and more people started to appreciate them over the years. I myself have been a huge fan of this Generation since Day 1. I bought the games, played the cards, watched the show, pretty much everything that had to do with Unova! Black & White weren't the games that introduced me to the franchise, but they certainly were the games I cherish the most to this day.

While it doesn't appear Black & White will have a large role in #Pokemon25, I'm hoping we can all take a moment and give it some love on this anniversary. I'm thinking we could give it it's own hashtag, #Unova10, to help set this day apart. Let's start a discussion and share our thoughts and opinions on Generation 5. Here's to another ten amazing years!

I'd love to see Mega Evolutions come back to support weaker Pokémon.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 06:04 AM PST

Mega evolutions were always a bittersweet sort of deal for me. Bitter because it either made Pokémon stronger when they didn't need an evolutionary buff or it made Pokémon outright stupidly broken that made the gameplay/competitive meta boring, but sweet because it made some weak Pokémon help get the boost they needed to get on par with some of the other 'mons. Some examples are Beedrill, Pidgeot, Sableye, and Manectric.

There are a lot of Pokémon that I just absolutely love and would love to see them get some buffs that could help them contend with some of the other, more useable Pokémon, either through stat buffs or ability buffs. They don't have to be on par, stat-wise, with something like a pseudo-legendary or a legendary, but I'd like for them to not be jokes in the battling department.

Some of my favorite 'mons growing up were Wigglytuff, Dewgong, Furret, Ledian, and Delibird. I'd love to see them get some love.

Just curious, but what are some Pokémon you'd love to see get Mega Evolution buff?

Pokemon Legends: Arceus - How excited are you?!

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is going to come out early next year. What are you excited about mostly? Personally, I love that it is a new experience where the story is in a different timeline and that you get to see Arceus of course.

If you missed out on the details about this game, check it out here https://dnreviews.net/2021/03/06/pokemon-legends-arceus/ but make sure to tell us in the comments what excites you about it? Thanks!

Why do people always hate on ORAS but praise HGSS?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 08:01 AM PST

Im not gonna lie, I enjoy ORAS a whole lot more than HGSS. ORAS imo did a lot more right than it did wrong. While HGSS was pretty much a graphical upgrade, with the exact same issues that the original games. The main point i see people making is pokemon walking with you, and if those are the standards for if a game is good or not then i guess Sw/Sh are also the best games in the series. A main complaint i see on ORAS though is the absence of the Battle Frontier. I get that many played and like it, but to me it was kinda boring. It kinda seemed like it was just endless battles which imo isn't very fun.

Bought an used 3DS , wanted to play Ultra moon, it had a digital version of Pokémon silver plus a bank full of legendaries and unique starters what should i do lol

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 05:27 AM PST

3 Arceus! The 3 legendary birds, Rayquaza, that... Green transformer thing from X and Y, Giratina! A jirachi! Celebi! A rattata! and Kanto, Unova and Kalos starters...

Should I give them a new home in my ultra moon? Or just delete it.. I have also a switch but no Pokemon there, barely use the console anyways. It feels weird like one of the bad trainer from the anime left their Pokémon to rot only for me (the Ash here maybe?) To save them...

    Or should I delete them...

What team do you plan on using for Radiant Diamond/Shining Pearl?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 08:58 AM PST

If you're planning on buying them, of course. I plan on using Lopunny, Gallade, Roserade, Honchkrow, Magnezone, and Garchomp in Brilliant Diamond. Dunno if I'll buy Shining Pearl, but if I do, I want to use a Toxicroak and Mismagius at least. What team do you have in mind for the Sinnoh remakes? (Edit: Changed Radiant to Brilliant, I'm stupid)

Discussion time! What are your thoughts on the Kalos region?

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:47 AM PST

I'll probably do this for every region, but I wanted to start off with a more controversial region. What are your thoughts and opinions on the Kalos games, the Pokémon, and the region in general? I don't really care for the story or region design, and the lack of difficulty is frustrating, but I must say that the Kalos region has the best Pokémon designs so far (in my opinion, of course). Gems like Greninja, Pangoro, Talonflame, Malamar, Dragalge, Hawlucha, and Noivern, just to name a few. And it was the region that brought us Mega Evolution, which I prefer to Z-Moves and Dynamax. Character customization is also another plus for me. Overall, not my least favorite region, but the overall mediocrity really stands out here.

Thanks Bulbapedia for the unjustified ban

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:07 AM PST

I really didn't want to have to do this, but I do, because I want to make the Pokemon community aware of Bulbapedia's treatment of users. It makes me quite sad because I've loved Bulbapedia for aeons, and have always turned to it for info on Pokemon.

A rather strange turn of events just took place, and it's all thanks to an Australian Bulbapedia sysop named Force Fire.

Take a look at the message left by Force Fire on my Bulbapedia talkpage here: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/User_talk:Aden_Singh

So apparently I'm a user who was banned from 2012 named Christian Woods, and the staff has "evidence" about it all because I made some edits to a couple pages in recent days that the Australian administrator Force Fire did not like. He even went so far as to call it "misinformation."

So dear Pokemon fans, don't go creating a Bulbapedia account, because Force Fire and his cronies will use his admin status to bully you like he always does. And what's worse, he'll accuse you of being a sockpuppet of Christian Woods or other phantom users that may or may not even exist. So be warned dear Pokemon fans, do not support Bulbapedia until Force Fire is desysoped or else retires from editing.

And should you become a Bulbapedia admin, make sure you are willing to present said evidence (if it exists) to the party you wish to ban so they can maybe see the patterns that lead to the conclusion you had, and give them a chance to ask how you came to that conclusion.

Oh and don't block the ability to edit talkpage because maybe the user is not who you think it is. Maybe they don't understand the connection you make between this user and the phantom user.

    thanks.

So thanks Christian Woods and Force Fire, you two are the reasons I am banned from Bulbapedia, and I don't even know what I did wrong.

Pokemon stat distribution piss you off

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:06 AM PST

Seriously they are many pokemons that are good on paper but suffers from having a too much points in 1 stats that is never going to use.

My first example is the entire pikachu line, its never going to use a physical set, like no it just doesnt have the move set to justify equal stats in ATK and SPA its just terrible, and even if it did 1 am 100% sure it would still prefer special attack. The only thing that can make it usable is cleary its SPA and speed ( alolan raichu ).

Another example is ninte tails, what is it doing with 67 ATK and 81 SPA? it hits like a wet noodle, it cant ko anything about and even HOKO with super effective hit is not guaranteed.

Houndoom wish it had salazar stat distribution, its has ABSOLUTELY no use of 90 stats in ATK, its move pool is clearly that of a special attacker and even with its mega evolution, its barely better than it in the stat department.

Charizard used to be kinda akward as a mixed attaker but its 2 mega evolution fixed everything that so Great on you for that one Gamefreak.

There are of course many great mix attackers that work perfertly like infernape/ kommo-o/mega absol but those type of pokemon require a bit of planning to use both stats efficiently. What other Pokémon stat distribution just piss you off?

    That trade is just mean.

I played Let's Go Pikachu for the first time and I have some thoughts (good ones)

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 03:48 AM PST

I just finished my second playthrough of Shield, and once again I didn't enjoy it as much as other games from the series. In a Pokemon game, I mostly care about two things: the exploration, and the bond with your Pokemon. The main game failed both, putting you on rails throughout the entire journey, and incentivizing the replacement of your team with stronger pokemon, rather than encouraging you to train the ones you have. It's generally too easy, doesn't really require any effort or thinking.

Now, I'm super excited for the upcoming games, but I was also looking for something to do in the meanwhile. I never really considered Let's Go as a viable option, since I wasn't the biggest fan of Pokemon Go. Moreover, the limited Pokedex didn't feel right to me, I just couldn't see myself playing a game without my favorite buddies. Then one little, insignificant thing happened: I've seen someone flying on his Charizard. I knew this was a thing, but for some reason it made me curious: I started wondering why can't we have that in newer games. Is there anything else we're missing out on?

That's when I decided to go out an buy Let's Go Pikachu. I started going through it with an open mind, and honestly, I'm positively surprised. First of all, I actually feel like I'm exploring: routes offer more variety and complexity, I actually managed getting lost and I never know where I am. Wild Pokemon make the world feel alive, each of them with its own unique personality: rattatas restlessly running around, pidgeys wandering around and nidorans minding their business. It lacks the player interaction aspect where Pokemon chase you or run away from you, but it still feels way more natural that the hoards of clones in SW/SH that are just there, existing, without a soul.

I noticed that Wild pokemon levels are generally lower than the trainers in that area, which makes training more important. I'm half way though the game, it's so satisfying to see your team growing with you. I never really trained my team in SW/SH, accessing strong pokemon was just too easy and convenient. I also think that the limited Pokedex actually benefits this game, because each species feels more special. I don't even remember the last time I was happy for catching a Growlithe.

The game in general is more Pokemon-focused, and isn't this the whole point? The entire story doesn't revolve around the box legendary, a cubone losing its mother is equally as important. Team Rocket also feels like a much better evil organization than what I've seen in the latest game. I love the fact you can walk with your Pokemon (and they match your speed, \cough cough* isle of amor *cough cough*)* and the fact you can ride on them is a simple concept that makes the esperience so much more immersive.

I still have a lot to play through and the game is not perfect. It's a bit laggy for some reason, cathing pokemon can become boring because you don't get to battle them, I don't understand why Charizard can't fly up those things you jump off of, but honestly it's nothing I'm gonna complain about too much. I'm having fun and that's all that matters.

Thinking of fake signature Pokémon moves, day 136: Blaziken

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 05:24 AM PST

I am coming up with at least 1 fake move that would be exclusive to 1 Pokémon or an evolutionary line of Pokémon. I am going in Pokédex order, and I will skip every Pokémon or evolutionary line that already has a Pokémon in it that has a signature move. Signature Z-moves or G-Max moves don't count.

Blaziken used to have Blaze Kick as a signature move, but other Pokémon have access to it now too, like Hitmonlee and it is even a TR in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Blaziken's move is called Sky-High Jump Kick, a Fighting-Type Physical move with a base power of 150, 85% accuracy and 5 PP. The user is semi-invyulnerable for the first turn, on the second turn the user attacks. If this move misses the target, the user takes half of its total HP in damage. (Move thought of and inspired by u/Thestalost.)

This move has the user jump very high in the sky, hence the name. Similar to Bounce, the user jumps high enough to stay in the air for almost a full turn, avoiding attacks until it executes the move. Similar to Jump Kick and High Jump Kick, the user loses half of its total HP in damage when the target evades the attack. When falling from such a great height, yeah, it would hurt if you didn't land on the thing you prepared to land on.

The move is performed by the user jumping high up in the air. Blaziken has very strong legs and can learn High Jump Kick already, so it should make sense that it can jump very high. Real chickens can jump reasonably high too, especially when using their wings. Anyways, what goes up must come down, and so the user drops to the ground again. Using the momentum of the fall, the user deals damage with the impact. This also means that when Gravity is in effect, this move cannot be performed. If Gravity or G-Max Gravitas is succesfully used while Blaziken is in the semi-invulnerable turn of Sky-High Jump Kick, it will fall down. This also applies to Thousand Arrows, but Thousand Arrows has a slightly different effect than Gravity so I mentioned them seperately.

I'd love to hear feedback or questions about my ideas, and if you have any ideas for signature moves for Pokémon, I'd love to hear them, I might use the ideas (with your consent of course)! Even though this is a daily thing, or at least, I'll try to keep it daily, I don't think I'll be consistent with the time of day I post another idea.

Our team is resampling the older Pokémon title soundtracks! Check them out!

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 03:38 AM PST

As you read in the title, our team is going through various Pokemon games, and resampling the music to a higher fidelity, vs their original versions. Come check out our work here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPagPS2vao4BIalXU_F_kKw

To clarify what "resampling" is, in our case, it actually means re-recording the original, compressed samples with new ones from the same equipment Game Freak composers used back in the day. This means the instruments retain an authentic sound, since we only use the same note (root key) samples, not the full presets.

Currently the majority of the tracks are from Diamond, Pearl & Platinum, done by me, however, we should soon see Ruby / Sapphire and Black / White tracks done in the same authentic way. We hope you enjoy what is currently there, and look forward to what is to come, in due time!

People’s views on BD/SP, I really wanna hear what more avid Pokémon fans want.

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 06:02 AM PST

I used to be a much more avid Pokémon fan a couple of years ago, and I still love specific entries in the franchise, but I've more or less branched my gaming off into other franchises, more in the FPS realm, so I don't really know how a lot of people still think about the remakes, but I'm intrigued to hear. This whole idea came from this article I found ( https://screenrant.com/pokemon-brilliant-diamond-shining-pearl-lessons-learned-from-sword-shield/amp/ ) where it says things they would want to see removed or brought over to the Gen 4 remakes, I know that people are entitled to their own opinions, but I found myself disagreeing with almost every single thing they said that they wanted to see, such as Pokémon Camp, Pokémon in the overworld, the wild area and Max Raids. I would like to say what I'd want from them, and I'd like to hear what others have to say about their worries and hopes for the game.

Firstly, what I hope for is the features such as the underground, the WiFi building in Jubilife city, wifi plaza, contests, pretty much all the online stuff, and other things such as the battle, survival and resort area fully fleshed out, also I hope that the remade songs are really good too, with remakes of Sunnyshore city, Veilstone city, The Game Corner, and much more. Also, I know that PEGI and ESRB rating won't allow for the game corner to be there, because the trailer said it was rated 7, what I would really hope they do is that they remake it and remake the music there, but then just don't let you play, perhaps have some jokes about your character not being old enough, or the NPC's who usually give coins say their normal lines but then say something at the end about not giving them to a kid, or perhaps you could still get coins by paying for them, but you need a membership card to use the machine, but the card isn't actually in the games code, nor would the slot machine game. I would also like to see mega evolution come back, I think if gym leader after a certain point should all have Mega evolved pokemon, including Barry at some point and the Elite 4 and Champion Cynthia, but I doubt it will come back.

Things I'm worried about is firstly the story, I've been replaying Pearl recently, and it is a bit of a bore, I'm at Pastoria and there hasn't been much in the way of story, I much prefer platinum because it has a bit more meat to it story wise, and it's got a better selection of Pokémon, I hope that it's called BD/SP but follows more inline with Platinum instead. Also I'm not a big fan of the Art Style, I would much rather wait a lot longer, possibly as long as 2-3 years for the art style to change to something that looks more like how ORAS changed up the look of Hoenn, or Let's Go, or even how Legends looks, not only that but the art style doesn't actually look very polished, I understand it's not final but it still looks unattractive to me.

I'm intrigued to know what others feel about it, if you have any disagreements I'd love to hear them and any other ideas I would also love to hear, thanks.

    Pest Pokemon run

    Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:15 AM PST

Was thinking about doing a pest/ annoying pokemon run. Basically pokemon who's real life counter parts are pest. Looking for cool or creative choices in an attempt to make a balanced team. Would love some help. Should i keep them in their pest forms if they change into non pestish forms?

Examples- Wingulls Pikachu Pidove (keep as pidove?)

If this idea isn't worth it would love some different ideas to make a fum themed team

Edit- doing an ultra sun run.
