Your Pokémon team based off design alone? (Not including Legendaries)

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 09:38 PM PDT

As the title says, what team would you pick based purely on design? Feel free to pick Pokémon of the same type if you would like, but try not to pick any legendaries if you can avoid it. My team would consist of the following

    1. Charizard
    2. Umbreon
    3. Pikachu
    4. Gengar
    5. Aggron.
    6. Heracross

Edit: I do like legendaries. I only put that stipulation because I thought they would dominate most lists.

You should be able to "Catch 'em All" in every game by itself

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 09:47 AM PDT

It has never been possible to legally obtain every single Pokemon without having friends trade with you. I get the idea that this is supposed to be a communal game, and I also get that programming a way to get 800+ mons into a single game is tedious. If they can put 900 Koroks into BOTW though, they can do this -- you should at least be able to get the regional dex on your own.

Let's look at Gen 1. The pokemon you cannot get in one run through are... -- trade evos/version exclusives : both are easily remedied by in-game trades, which already exist. It also wouldn't de-centivize people from trading with their friends since you get to choose the IVs if you caught it yourself. -- fossils: remedied in LGPE with the hidden fossils later -- other starters/eeveelutions : the eevee can be remedied by having multiple eevees available in the wild, and a way I came up for fixing the starters is to be able to go back to Pallet town in the postgame and trade in a starter for the one it's good against (at lv 5).

If I missed any (besides Mew) let me know. The point is, seriously, why haven't you ever been able to catch em all?

Edit: yes I understand money is the reason they do this. Still upsets me though

Proof Poke Balls don't posses any mind control properties

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 02:31 AM PDT

In the 59th episode of the Pokemon Journeys anime, we see a Team Rocket's Pokemon ( Grookey )run away from them. When Team Rocket comes after it to retrieve it, it refuses to go back into the Poke Ball when it is called back and just smashes the Poke Ball, effectively proving there's no mind control or slavery in place.

A Pokemon can leave its Poke Ball at any given moment and just run away or smash their Poke Ball. Pokemon trainers aren't some kind of slave dealers. Even when trading, the anime shows that it's not just an emotionless exchange of property.

Just saying it for those peeps that believe that. I mean, you can believe whatever you want ofc, nothing wrong with that, but it's quite clear that the intended premise is that Pokemon trainer is friendship and partnership, not using Pokemon as tools. That's what evil teams do, not proper trainers.

And regarding the games, yes, it technically may not apply to them, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't. And no, the gameplay mechanics of us being able to catch any and every Pokemon doesn't count. It's not like the characters of games would ever be able to do everything the player can like completing their life goal in 20 minutes or doing so without taking a single hit.

    Evolving pokemon differently

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 07:15 AM PDT

There is a lot of evolution methods. Leveling up, with a stone, through a trade and some others. In this post,i will change evolution methods for some pokemon.

Kadabra (level 32 + holding a twisted spoon) - Alakazam

Machoke (level 35 + holding an expert belt) - Machamp

Poliwhirl (level up in rain) - Politoed

Slowpoke (level up knowing protect) - Slowking

    Onix (level 38) - Steelix

Haunter (level up knowing dream eater) - Gengar

    Pichu (level 16) - Pikachu

    Magikarp (use a water stone/level 30) - Gyarados

    Feebas (use a water stone/level 28) - Milotic

Boldore (level up in a cave) - Gigalith

    Riolu (level 30) - Lucario

Maybe i will make a second post about this, and share tour thoughts if you want.

    Favourite fossil pokemon? (Part one)

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 06:34 AM PDT

So,i weren't able to post images, so i decided to make a poll. And i decided to focus on fossils. Fossil pokemon are definitely a big part of a region. My personal favourites are Bastiodon line and Archeops line. And yea, since i can't post images for some reason, i will make a lot of posts. That's it.

Thinking of fake signature Pokémon moves, day 165: Gulpin and Swalot

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 06:55 AM PDT

I am coming up with at least 1 fake move that would be exclusive to 1 Pokémon or an evolutionary line of Pokémon. I am going in Pokédex order, and I will skip every Pokémon or evolutionary line that already has a Pokémon in it that has a signature move. Signature Z-moves or G-Max moves don't count. Also, I don't make moves for Pokémon to make them better in battle. While it may make them more usable, that is not my intent most of the time, I just make moves to give the Pokémon something they need, deserve or are said they can do, but aren't able to do with their current movesets.

Gulpin an Swalot's move is called Belching Wave, a Poison-Type Special move with a base power of 25, 90% accuracy and 15 PP. It can hit the target 2-5 times and Pokémon with Soundproof are immune. (The base power was an idea if u/brikzterz.)

Gulpin and Swalot look and act quite like a gallbladder and a stomach respectively. Due to this, I only feel like a move that has to do with bodily functions, and belches are a pretty obvious way to go. There already exists a move called Belch, so I can't name it that. Instead, I named it Belching Waves, since the move is performed by the user belching a few times in a row. The attack is sound-based, thus Pokémon with the ability Soundproof are immune. Unlike Belch, the user doesn't need to eat a berry first.

For as far as I can remember, there are no Poison-Type moves or sound-based moves that can hit multiple times in a row, although most Poison-Type Pokémon can poison the target which deals a bit of damage each turn anyways. Since the sound of the move is the thing that deals damage, Belching Waves isn't able to poison the target. I mean, sound can't really be poisonous. Air can be, and considering how toxic Gulpin and Swalot are, yeah I can imagine that they can poison the air by belching. But I feel like it wouldn't make that much sense for a move like this. Maybe that's just me though.

I'd love to hear feedback or questions about my ideas, and if you have any ideas for signature moves for Pokémon, I'd love to hear them, I might use the ideas (with your consent of course)! Even though this is a daily thing, or at least, I'll try to keep it daily, I don't think I'll be consistent with the time of day I post another idea.

Am I the only one who thought of my own grandiose story after playing a pokemon game?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 03:37 AM PDT

Gen 5 B2W2 may be my first and all time favorite Pokemon game in the series due to how sprawling the content and enthralling the story was for a Pokemon game, but Platinum will always hold a special place in my childhood next to Xenoblade 1 Final Fantasy X. Not long before I finished Gen 5 (literally a week apart), was me starting Platinum.

I have not thought of this in years until I was rummaging through my things and found an old journal detailing this entire adventure.

As a 10 year old kid on 2011, I picked Dawn purely because I thought her Winter Coat looked better on her than Lucas, then I started surfing the internet and came across the Cynthia x Cyrus ship, and my overimaginative ass started crafting this entire story on where Ghetsis traveled from my B2 save file and started crossing the multiverse for more power, an alternate reality in which Cynthia and Cyrus are happpily married and owners of Galactic corp, and after encountering the Creation and Lake trio, comes Ghetsis with a fused Zekrm/Reshiram/Kyurem, uses the red chain thing to bind the three to their will with Giratina and the Lake trio escaping, and Dialga/Palkia resetting a false reality. And their daughter Dawn has to deal with the canon events of Platinum as an unexpressive yet kind trainer much like Cyrus. Cyrus memories are retained fully courtesy of Uxie, with Dawn only starting to remember bits and pieces.

And my mind started crafting the events of Cyrus' "Perfect World" to have his old life and family back, Ghetsis manipulating things behind the scenes, Dawn's canonical mother being a former member of Plasma's Shadow Triad (their hairdo was similar enough for my young mind to make that jump). Dawn learning to slowly express herself with her Childhood friend Barry and Riley. Cyrus getting arrested rather than lost in the Distortion World, Crossing to Unova to get more answers, Confronting Ghetsis, rescuing the Legendaries with various other characters, Winning the Tournament, and Dawn heading home after reconnecting with her real parents and her foster mother.

Until now, I have no idea if this plot is any good, as I have written nearly 2/3 of this old journal I found detailing the entire plot of this, any thoughts, I feel as if this is something I could write down and turn into a full novel length fanfic.

    Where them Mega Evolutions at???

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 09:31 AM PDT

So I've been playing through Pokemon X for the first time ever (I stopped playing Pokemon after Diamond and Pearl and just started again with LGPE and SwSh) and have really been enjoying it! It took me a while to actually look into it, but I just learned yesterday that not a single gen 6 pokemon received a mega evolutions????? I know Diancie received one later on, and tbh I kinda like Diancie personally, but I know a lot people saw that as disappointing. But yeah I was kinda shocked to learn that because it's like if they introduced gigantamaxing to Galar but had no gen 8 pokemon be able to gigantamax. It's just so weird and doesn't feel right to me. Personally, I always build my team out of pokemon introduced in that game only (only Kanto pokemon in Kanto, only new Galar pokemon in Galar) and so that means I literally can't have any of my main team mega evolve. I'm not exactly mad about it, just really surprised and find it a very confusing choice.

Would you like to see wild double battles come back to our Pokémon games?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 10:25 AM PDT

I was playing Pokémon White version 2 on a Rom because that is my all time favorite game. I really missed having wild double battles. To me, it's more fun and slightly harder to catch wild Pokémon. I would love to see it come back some time. I'd definitely like to see that come back when and if Unova gets a remake. Let me know what you think about it in the comment section.

    Is Dexit Permanent?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 07:13 AM PDT

I know they've added certain Pokemon since Sword and Shield released but I guess I'm still scared some of my favorites won't return. I have an Alolan Muk I'm proud of I still can't use in the new generation along with Murkrow and Misdreavous who are personal favorites and every generation I've gone with a Raticate. Now I'm sitting here watching that darn Keychain Pokemon Klefki flaunt itself around and I guess I'm just venting over what Pokemon were deemed popular or not to keep in the newest generation. I feel like animating Muk while camping would have been quite a chore but I'm still sad :/. Anybody else have any favorites you have sitting in Pokemon home you haven't been able to use? Also do you think the Dex cut is in any way permanent to future games? That would be a shame I think.

    Port over older games

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 07:26 AM PDT

So I do not quite understand why they have not ported over the older generation games yet? Especially for us OGs that have been with it since the beginning. I know they have Red,Blue and Yellow and Gold,Silver and Crystal for the 3DS, but why cant they put Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald there as well? Or port them all to the Switch? Even the Diamond, Pearl and Platinum and the Black and Whites!! They are more than capable and I would gladly pay 10$ or more a piece for the older gens, rather than have to pay 100$ resale off eBay or anything else. Nintendo could end these price gougers and satisfy a lot of people by doing this. Does anyone know why they couldn't? (Im not to savvy when it comes to coding and stuff that like that. That could be issues??) Just curious how others feel. Love this thread and the games. Im a lifer!!!!!

Anyone else frustrated with how ridiculously overpriced the older games have gotten recently?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 10:32 AM PDT

I mean, I get it. Pokemon is extremely popular, and I'd say that there's probably a great demand for the older games because of various things in the series now, like Dexit, or GameFreak's overall way of doing things. It's just incredibly frustrating knowing that as far as I can tell, I'll never be able to get my hands on and play through Pokemon BW/BW2, a whole generation that I've still left largely untouched. For a few years now, I've been slowly building back up my collection of Pokemon games where I'd previously sold them in my youth (stupid of me, I know.) And I thought forking out $105 last year for a CIB SoulSilver with Pokewalker was ridiculous.

What I paid $105 for last year, is now worth $500.

I regret not picking these games up at least a year sooner. My plan was to pick up FireRed (the last game from my childhood that I'd sold), White, and then finally White 2, and then I'd be finished with building up my collection of pre-Gen 6. I could play on an emulator, but it's not the same as a genuine copy, and on top of that, I wouldn't be able to transfer my Pokemon from the other older games up to BW/BW2. As it stands now, I don't think that chance is coming again unless Nintendo decides to rerelease the older games on the Switch........ as if that would ever happen.

I feel bad for newer fans of the series or aspiring shiny hunters.

    Favourite fossils 2: Electric Boogaloo

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 06:41 AM PDT

Continuing the fossil post, i will talk about the latest ones. Dracovish and others. Fusion idea was... I don't know, but these guys look not good. Sure,Dracovish is strong, but it looks really weird. And also,it was kind of weird that Aerodactyl didn't got an evolution in my opinion. And it also was weird that Johto and Alola didn't got any fossils.

What are some underrated Pokémon you love and what’s your reason?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 11:41 AM PDT

For me one of the most underrated Pokémon is Inteleon. I've always loved reptiles and when I saw Sobble's final evo I really liked it. As well as a cartoonist, I really liked its slender and tall design, and I think the spy theme takes the cake for it as one of my favorites.

Just kinda curious about this topic, it's always fun to discuss this type of stuff. What are some Pokémon that you feel like don't get enough credit?

Am I the only one to not have any favorite Pokemon ?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 08:40 AM PDT

I mean, I have some pokemon I like most than other, or maybe some I don't like too much.

I like Gen 1 pokemons, because I started with them. But is not an absolute. I like my teams. But needed I can change every members. I like legendaries because there are (almost) unique. I like shiny because there are rare.

My step daughter always ask me "What is you favorite Pokemon ?" and I can't really tell. But she could list me 2 or 3 pokemons she likes the most.

I saw a lot of post of screenshot, drawing or anything else with people telling "It's my favorite".

And you, do you have any favorite Pokemon ?

How are poachers different from trainers?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 11:27 AM PDT

So I was watching the anime and there was a pokémon poacher using a net to catch wild pokémon and all I could think about was "How Is this different?" Is not using a ball cruel? Do they not have a license? Or Is It because they plan to sell them and not make them fight?

Pokemon legend's new openworld can give us one opportunity i've been dying to see.

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 07:23 AM PDT

I want the ability to ride a rapidash across the land, like riding epona in zelda, take advantage of the one native fire type in all of sinnoh that isn't chimchar and let me ride a rapidash across the land.

I can see function like a superior bike, goes alot faster but also controls alot more slippery, with a way better boost speed, i guess a clear example i can see it work would be like horse riding in twilight princess more specifically, and since is a horse, they can add the ability to hop across ledges that way, and if they feeling extra gucci, make it so you can ram weaker pokemon and farm exp that way.

    Emulators vs Hardware?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 10:59 AM PDT

Do you guys prefer to play your Pokémon games on an emulator or hardware? This is not a discussion on the costs but rather the general feel of playing it.

For me I will always 100% enjoy hardware more than emulators. For me, it feels like a waste of time to collect Pokémon on my laptop because eventually I know I'll probably accidentally delete it for space and it just generally doesn't feel like a legit experience for me. On hardware I know that my mons will be there for pretty much forever and I'll always keep them in a safe separate space from all the files and clutter on my computer. I also heavily prefer the idea of booting up my 3DS to take a look at the shinnies and legendaries I've collected over time rather than just turning on OpenEmu on my laptop.

I also prefer the feel of holding the DS/3DS in my hands over using a keyboard.

But that's just me, what do you guys prefer and why?

What is the cheapest elite 4 exploit?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 08:08 AM PDT

I'm looking for the cheapest way to beat the elite 4 of any generation of the main series.

Maybe there is an elite 4, that has 0 moves that can hurt Shedinja. Or an AI exploit that will make them choose non-damaging attacks against a certain pokemon 100% of the time - stuff like that.

The goal is to find a team of pokemon, that can beat the elite 4 of a given game, that at first glance seems to be completely impossible.

Key Highlights: - Ampharos, given his extremely high SP ATK, can one hit KO Lance's Gyarados, Will's Xatu, Karen's Murkrow and Koga's Crowbat. Even the Signal Beam came handy for Wil's Exeggutor and Karen's Umbreon - Feraligatr is a beast. At level 52, he was able to outspeed Lance's Dragonites and one Ice Fang brought them to red zones. He also one KO'd Lance's Aerodactyl and Charizard - Togetic was weak defensively but he came in handy for Wil, Koga and Bruno - Koga was the easiest E4 - Karen's Umbreon WAS ANNOYING AF - Growlithe came in handy for Koga's Forretress and Karen's Vileplume - Tho Growlithe and Donphan were mostly used as staller given their low levels - Johto's level curve SUCKS - How can I get a Shiny Stone ☹️ Togetic SUCKS
