How does it have 3.8 out of 10 user score

Why is so many people giving it 0 or 1

I don't even think it's that bad, I'm enjoying myself

    https://www.metacritic.com/game/switch/new-pokemon-snap

I can't express how amazing it is to have a game that is basically 100% about world building and imagining Pokemon in their natural habitats and the kinds of stuff they get up to. Every time I see a new Pokemon I gasp out loud

How fast is Ninjask really? Well. A good several times faster than the speed of sound, actually.

    Posted: 01 May 2021 01:55 PM PDT

Alrighty so if my math is sound then that means Ninjask can break mach 7. Yes. Ninjask can go seven times the speed of sound. Hear me out.

In numerous pokédex entries it says that Dragonite is capable of flying around the world in 16 hours. What? 16 hours? Ok, then how fast is that? Well, the circumference of the planet is 24,901 miles (assuming the Pokémon world is similar enough in size to our planet). Wow alright then. That distance in 16 hours comes to 1,556.3 MpH. Mach 2 is 1522.4 MpH. Holy heck, Dragonite is fast. But, since the dex entries only say they are capable of that, let's assume a Dragonite can only do that with a maximum speed stat of 284 at level 100.

Let's compare all that to a level 100 Ninjask with a max speed stat of 460. If a speed stat of 284 can hit 1,556.3 MpH, then what can a speed stat of 460 hit? Well 460 is 1.62 times greater than 284. Let's take Dragonite's max speed of 1,556.3 MpH and multiply that by 1.62. That comes to a whopping 2,520.8 MpH. Mach 3 is 2,283.6 MpH.

Let's take this a step further. If we also consider that Ninjask can have the ability Speed Boost, then how much faster can it go? Well, after three speed boost stages, a max speed Ninjask's speed stat will cap out at 999. So how fast is a 999 speed stat? Well. Uh. That's well. You get the point. It's very fast.

Screw it. I'll do the math. 999 is 2.17 times greater than 460. Multiply Ninjask's unboosted speed of 2520.8 MpH by 2.17 and you get 5,474.5 MpH. Mach 7 is 5,370.9. The fastest bullet in the world is the .220 Swift which hits 3,180.7 MpH. Ninjask can outrun anything besides light. That bug is ridiculously fast. Ninjask's dex entries say it can move so fast that it cannot be seen which is 100% correct.

With this info we can approximate how fast any pokémon can go. When we divide the speed by the speed stat, we get MpH per 1 speed stat. I've rounded to the tenth decimal place so the numbers don't all come out the same but we get a good ball park. 5474.5 MpH divided by 999 comes out to 5.48MpH per speed stat unit. So whatever any pokémon's speed stat is, multiply it by 5.48 and that's the maximum speed that pokémon is capable of.

Just beat Pokemon Yellow and wanted to share the final moments in the battle against my rival

    Posted: 02 May 2021 02:55 AM PDT

I just beat pokemon yellow on my childhood Gameboy and had to tell the story of the battle against my rival, if only I got to somehow record it! I was out of revives and potions and all the rival's pokemon were over level 60 so my chances of winning were slim. I had lost at least 8 times by now and was about to give up on my save and take the loss and start the elite 4 all over again. So I gave it one last try and by the time I fought his 3rd last pokemon, Exeggutor, I only had a level 47 Charizard left. I beat his Exeggutor using fly as I was out of PP for fire blast but he did a number on me with Stomp and I was down to a measly 17 HP. Next came out Ninetales and luckily Charizard knew Earthquake. Ninetales used Confuse Ray and the situation was looking even more dire and luckily I got to use earthquake (super effective!) without taking damage from confusion. It was down to 1/4HP when Ninetales attacked first using tail whip! Goddam tail whip!!! There was a glimmer of hope when Ninetales was knocked out without Charizard hurting itself in confusion. Last was Jolteon and I thought I might actually have a chance to win this given it was an electric type. I'm not sure if there was some 'sympathy algorithm' at play but Charizard snapped out of confusion and after the first earthquake which put Jolteon's HP down to about 1/4, he retaliated with a successful Thunder Wave! I couldn't believe Charizard was still standing but I knew for the next turn I had to either attack first, or Jolteon needed to use another non-damaging move, PLUS I needed to avoid paralysis. With paralysis lingering, the next words read "CHARIZARD used Earthquake!" The ground shook and Jolteon was defeated! I couldn't believe it! I hadn't played Gen I in over 15 years so this was a beautiful way to end game and roll the end credits

My ideas about a Turkey based pokemon region

    Posted: 02 May 2021 12:50 AM PDT

    Lets begin with starters:

The fire starter would be a sheep, inspired by the Kırklareli curly sheep (heres one) it will be a dual ground type for living at a habitat that has sun effects more.

The grass starter would be a dog, inspered by the kangal sheperd dog (heres one) it will be a dual steel type for having sharp claws & teeth

The water starter would be a monster, inspered by the Van Lake monster, its a local form of Loch Ness monster. (heres it) It will be a dual dark type for being mysterious

So after the starters, having more pokemon is an obligation. We need a regional rodent, bug and bird.

For regional rodent, I think having a Laotian rock mouse, its a rare and found one at Sakarya (One of Turkeys cities) (heres one) it will be a dual posion/normal type for the common mouse poison used for many things about fields, mouses etc.

For regional bug, we dont have much varies, but we can have a mosquito because they are around for 7-8 months. Heres an ancient one, Anopheles (heres one) it will be a ghost/bug type because they are very sneaky, may be the shadow sneak is gonna be an starting move of it.

For regional bird, I would wanna say pidgeon but we have one the unfezant. So Ill say another popular bird: Magpie. It will be a dark or normal/flying and (heres one)

    And other pokemons

Regional variant for Falinks, a janissary it will have an extra steel type for swordish things. And adding a gigantamax form for it. Representing Mehmet the Conqueror

After some classic pokemon, I have Ideas for some gym leaders lets start.

We can have a sayokan (its a shortening of Warriors way and blood in Turkish) master, a fighting style in Turkey. His name will be Merana (Mertlik: A Turkish word that represents bravery & Arabic form of it, I combined them) His team will put slap moves in the center because of the Ottoman Slap (A powerful slap that old Ottoman soldiers used to). Fifth Badge, 4 pokemon, gym puzzle is fighting with 3 trainer that counter flying and electric

We can have a kebab (a Turkish meat dish thats way popular in Turkey) chef uses fire pokemon. His/her name will be Ash (Aş means meal in Turkey) His team mostly be fire type pokemon but his ace will be a new kebab pokemon that pure fire type. Forth badge, 3 pokemon, gym puzzle is cooking ingredients correctly

We can have a fisherman (at Turkeys Blacksea border fishing is a huge economic power for Turkey) uses water pokemon. His/her name comes from sea and Turkish form of sea, deniz. His teams theme will be a fishing theme, probably will have a Hamsi (heres one) themed pokemon and have a regional form of dhelmise. Sixth badge, 4 pokemon, gym puzzle is catching pokemon in a time (like Galars 3 badge)

    The Locations

First city: Erlyk Town, where you get starters and start your adventures. Based on Aydın

Second city: Ghok Town, where the first badge is. Where meet evil team you Based on Antalya

Third city: Iulgen City, where the second badge is. Based on Konya

    Puiar Town: (None for now

Forth city: Yaik City, where the third badge is. Meeting champion for first time. Based on Mersin

Fifth city: Kaira City, where the forth badge is. Based on Antep

Baindier Forest: You encounter Chris, a pokemon trainer that helps you with his regional Gothitelle! (A Ghost/Dark type, referencing shaman culture)

Sixth city: Meirgen City, where the fifth badge is. Based on Malatya

Aisit Town: Where the evil team raids, before the sixth gym

Seventh City: Umai City, where the sixth badge is. Based on Trabzon

Eighth City: Ouz City, where the last badge is. Based on İstanbul

Ninth City: Teing City, where the league is. Based on Ankara

Heres some ideas! If you have more, please share it with us! And I will add more pokemon with time. Lastly Im not English and I use my low level English, sorry for that

Thinking of getting either sword and shield or lets go with my only real experience being Pokémon go, Which do you recommend?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 08:11 AM PDT

As I was saying in the title the only real Pokémon game I've played has been Pokémon go and I really like the shiny hunting aspect of it. Which one do you think I can sink the most hours in whilst enjoying it. If it makes a different i would probably not be playing with friends. Thank you for taking time to respond!

If Legendary is still making Pokemon movies, I really want a Kaiju movie featuring Groudon vs Kyogre.

    Posted: 02 May 2021 09:36 AM PDT

After the relative success of Detective Pikachu, most people expected the next adaptation to be from the main series, particularly Red's journey in Kanto. I think it would be a great introduction to the universe, but I personally really want to see 3rd Gen/Hoenn story be adapted.

Pokemon Emerald was my very first ever Pokemon game, so I'm sorry for the nostalgia bias. Considering that Groudon and Kyogre's awakening and eventual battle are heavily featured in the game, it makes so much sense to adapt it into a Kaiju movie. You don't need a complicated reason for them to fight as they are polar opposites. Their power domains are also easy to understand and not too abstract unlike most of the other legendaries (Mewtwo's mind powers in Detective Pikachu is still bizarre for me). You can easily imagine how their battle sequence would be done in live-action and it won't become "too weird" for the general audience.

Obviously, there's still gonna be issues. Like in previous Hollywood attempts in Kaiju movies, the plot can be its weakest link. While the motivation for the monsters would be easy, the motivation for the humans is still a problem. Even ORAS didn't really fix Team Aqua and Magma's motivation to not sound stupid, frankly. Maybe they could write in some real-world elements like over-population on land or pollution in the sea to justify their motivation.

As for the human protagonists, I think you can do both Brendan and May as a parallel narrative. Each of them doing their own investigation on each evil team and eventually working together to save Hoenn from the upcoming doom. At the end of the day, I'm no writer and I just want to see two big Pokemon fight

So what do you think? How would you do this concept? Do you want to see a Kaiju Pokemon movie? Maybe featuring other Legendaries?

I have a confession to make. The first time I played Pokemon Gold, I chose Chikorita.

    Posted: 02 May 2021 02:26 AM PDT

Sure Gym Leaders were hard. Especially when you play for the first time, you are 10 and English in not your first language. But trainers, Team Rocket members and some other challenges weren't that hard. So I guess Chikorita is hated because of the first two Gym Leaders mostly and not because of the overall game.

What would be your ideal Pokémon game?

    Posted: 02 May 2021 09:45 AM PDT

I've been playing Pokémon since the originals, and while I love almost all of them they all follow the same formula. It's a great formula, but after 20+ years of doing the same thing it can get a bit stale (although the new legends game looks amazing). What would your perfect Pokémon game involve?

I want pokemon snap vocalizations to be the standard in new mainline titles

    Posted: 02 May 2021 10:18 AM PDT

I absolutely love the new vocalizations in pokemon snap! Pokemon in snap sound like real animals and I love it.

I would love for these new style vocalizations to become the standard in new (not remake) mainline games. Old sounds could be in the dex for anyone who wants to hear how the sound of pokemon has evolved over time.

    What do you think?

Share me your most WTF moment in Showdown Random Battle

    Posted: 02 May 2021 08:17 AM PDT

For me, the absolute worst moment is, hands down, a Damn Charizard... with Hold Hand

If you are unfamiliar, Hold Hand is a move that does... absolutely nothing... just a flashier Splash... which can only be used in Double Battle when it is a single battle... and WILL FAIL under special circumstances (seriously, why make a completely useless move fail?)

The worst of all... its held Item... is Normalium Z... and its only Normal Move is... you guess it, Fucking Hold Hand

What kind of twisted joke is that?

Which of these Sinnoh Starter Mega Evolution Concepts would be best in Competitive? (Base Stats and New Ability in text below)

    Posted: 02 May 2021 09:06 AM PDT

    Mega Infernape Base Stats: 76 129 80 129 80 140

    Mega Empoleon Base Stats: 84 123 125 123 125 50

    Mega Torterra Base Stats: 95 149 125 75 125 56

Mega Empoleon new ability (Wonder Armor): everytime this Pokémon is hit with a super effective attack, it's attack and special attack are raised by 1 stage.

With BDSP coming in a few months I figured I'd repost these. The Sinnoh Starters are my favorite Starters designwise and Infernape is my favorite starter alltime. It would be nice to see them get Megas in the remake. Let me know which one you picked and why you picked it in the comment section. Also be sure to check out the new r/MegaEvolution community if you want to see more Mega Evolution Concepts like these and create your own. I look forward to hearing from you.

    A - Articuno M - Moltres Z - Zapdos

They also did the ArticUNO, ZapDOS, and MolTRES thing that everyone knows about so I wouldn't be surprised if they added this as a little bonus Easter egg. Please tell me in replies if someone else noticed it before me.

Theory: Galar doesn't have Megas or Z moves because Chairman Rose banned them from the Gym challenge.

    Posted: 02 May 2021 11:24 AM PDT

The gym challenge is the region's main sporting event, but it's also how the region gets it's power.

Dynamaxed and Gigantamaxed Pokemon fight in arenas built over power spots, specially built to generate power by transferring the energy to Hammerlocke's power plant/gym.

But that's specifically from Dynamax/Gigantamaxed Pokemon. Z Moves and Mega Evolution don't produce the same energy.

So Chairman Rose banned them, making it so the only option for a trainer's gimmick to finish a battle with the one that he relies on to power the Region.

And since Mega Evolution and Z moves can't be used in the region's definitive battle format, there's really no demand for them so it's hard to get your hands on the items needed to use them.

Which of these Johto Starter Mega Evolution Starters would be best in Competitive? (Base Stats in text below)

    Mega Feraligatr base stats: 85 150 100 75 100 120

The Johto Starters are by far is the most in need of an upgrade. All of them have a lot of potential but just haven't been given a second typing or a new form. So I decided to give them new stat lines, abilities, and a secondary typing. Let me know which one you voted for and why in the comment section. So apparently my Charmander learned its father’s moveset entirely

    Posted: 02 May 2021 09:47 AM PDT

This was done in LeafGreen, just so you know. I was breeding and hatching some eggs, and I'd picked up a Charmander egg. My Charizard had the moveset Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Dragon Claw, and Aerial Ace. When I hatched the egg, it had the exact same moveset. Charizard wasn't holding anything, I'd bred it with a Ditto. Can anyone explain why? Also, two Eevees I'd hatched had Dig, like the Vaporeon I bred with ditto. Imagine if all of them are actually egg moves, which aren't listed on Bulbapedia...

The New Snap's graphics and visuals look phenomenal. The details blow my mind. This is how the main series games should be. Just imagine if we got the DP remakes in these graphics and detail on Pokémon interactions. The environments are the perfect example of what a Wild Area should have been. It just saddens me that we are going to explore Sinnoh in the same visuals that have been present for the last 9 years. Just imagine what we could have got.

An idea for a new group of pokemon

    Posted: 02 May 2021 10:46 AM PDT

    The elder pokemon

the idea mostly come from the elder dragon from monster hunter and those level 80 monsters you can fight 5 mins in the game from xenoblade chronicles, this is also to bring me a level design i wanna make if the legend arceus/wild area does become a norm for the mainline game

The idea is that these are single evolution pokemon, with stats compareble to a legendary, but it doesn't have it's godly status of one, they aren't pokemon who crafted land, sea, time or space or the embodiment of truth or ideals, or life and death itself, or just straight up a god, they are just really powerful pokemon more powerful than even the pseudo legendary, again think of them like the elder dragons from monster hunter but in the world of pokemon.

The idea is that is since the world of legend arceus makes you explore a huge plot of open land instead of the old corridor routes, every plain has atleast one elder pokemon just freely walking across the plain, and could also just battle you if you came close contact, regardless how early in the game you are, and these are intended to be the pokemon you fight at the end of the game.

The idea is just to provide a huge urgency in the overworld so is not just a boring cake walk from point A to Point B in a huge map, they are easy to avoid so is only really hard if you are truly not paying attention, another examples be those level 85 monsters in the literal earlygame from xenoblade chronicles as an idea.

imagine just roaming the world suddenly, a winged elder pokemon just spotted on the horizon travelling across the mountains in the background, or you enter some deep forest, and you feel these earth trembling footsteps, and then this this tree size gorilla pokemon appeared eating a salamence for breakfast or something just walking pass, now the forest become one whole horror game session of trying not to get found or get instantly game over.

like she's sooo nice and actually useful and also I thought she was rly cute when I played it. Also her battle theme rocks. Plus she considers the player as her best friend towards the end of the game but before the elite 4 and that's actually one of her best Moments bc she said it before the player risks his life.
