I made this word doc (that's over 500 pages long) detailing the journey.

In it, I've also gone over each permitted Pokémon with their allowed moves to show how few options can be used and ways each Pokémon could be used despite losing most of their useable attacks.

I hadn't seen anyone attempt this challenge yet (wouldn't be surprised if someone already has though) so hopefully this run is unique enough to be considered 'interesting'.

A feature in Platinum you probably didn't know about

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 10:23 AM PDT

    Video version here.

I did it. I finally did it. After a week of non-stop grinding at the Veilstone's Game Corner, I can finally say I feel I've mastered this. You know, the funny thing is too is that there is a suspicious lack of information regarding the technicalities here. I decided, "you know what? Let's confirm what is and isn't true right now."

So if you're looking to win major coinage or just looking to get that spicy TM64, this is your guide to winning big at the Game Corner in Veilstone City. The Game Corner functions exactly the same way in Platinum as it does in Diamond and Pearl.

From Veilstone's Pokemon Center, make your way to the Game Corner which is the building with the flashy entrance. Once you visit any of the unoccupied machines, you'll see a standard slot game on the top screen. On the top screen, you can press X twice to start rolling the reels. You can stop them in any order you want with the letter buttons and the goal is to, like most slot machines, get three in a row. On the bottom screen, you'll see a nice moonlit cliffside. Believe it or not, this bottom screen is more important than the slot itself. Occasionally you'll see a Poke Ball roll on screen and wiggle at random. Without this Poke Ball, you will literally never win the slots. It's rigged, but does that really surprise you in a city like Veilstone?

That's right, if you want to win any coins at all you're going to need some sort of Poke Ball rolling on the screen. There are different kinds and each of them result in different coin amounts (PokeBall gets you a triple PokeCherry, Great Ball gets you a triple Replay, etc.). There's nothing you can do to make a PokeBall come out, just keep rolling the reels and eventually you'll find one.

To add another layer of RNG here, occasionally the PokeBall will open and reveal a Clefairy and the music will change. Clefairy will now make it possible and likely to get 777 or GGG, and when you finally do it, you're going to the Bonus Round.

Okay so here's where things get spicy. Remember how I said the bottom screen was more important? Yeah, literally don't even look at the top one anymore. Clefairy is going to directly tell you which reels to stop in which order, so listen to her like she's the cute girl from math class. If you follow Clefairy closely, you will get a triple Replay and 15 coins. If you do this for all 15 rolls, you can get 210 coins per bonus round with costs included. At the end of the 15 rolls, Clefairy will either leave or stay again for another Round, indicated by the giant "2" now. This is what you need – track your way through as many bonus rounds as possible to get as many coins as possible. Of course, just like my parents marriage there is absolutely nothing you can do to control it. In fact, it's almost 100% random.

The only thing that has some sort of assistance in the game is the Moon. Every once in a while, you'll see the Moon glow red or white. If it glows red, it's rumored that following Clefairy's orders for that roll will cause Clefairy to withdraw at the end of the round. If it glows white, it's rumored to guarantee you another round if you follow Clefairy's orders. Speaking of rumors, let me confirm or de-confirm some of them for you. These rumors are from various sources and after countless hours of grinding these slots… I swear, I think I see Clefairy in my dreams.. It's time to put these rumors to rest.

RUMORS Rumor 1: The white moon guarantees another round and the red moon guarantees the end of the round. This rumor is false, although it's very close to true. On several cases, I have followed a white moon and still had the Bonus Game end, and even more times I've followed a red moon and still had the Bonus Game continue. I will admit, however, that it definitely DOES affect the game. I recommend following every white moon and doing the opposite of what Clefairy says in a red moon.

Rumor 2: The Poke Ball Type affects how many Bonus Rounds you will get. This is simply not true. I've had Safari Balls, rumored to be the best, last me one or two rounds more often than PokeBalls and I've had PokeBalls take me to rounds 10+. PokeBall type doesn't matter.

Rumor 3: The type of Clefairy affects how many Bonus Round you will get. Yeah, that's right.. The Clefairy can come out of a PokeBall in three different types. The first is a regular Clefairy, the second is a Ditto disguised as a Clefairy, and lastly, the final type is a Shiny Clefairy. These Clefairy are rumored to affect how far you go, and once again it's not true. My best round is a PokeBall regular Clefairy. However it is a cute little detail and definitely fun to look at something different.

Rumor 4: What Clefairy does between rounds affects future rounds. If Clefairy chooses to play another round it will do one of a few things. It can just make its cry and start the next round, or sometimes it will have Pikachu dance to encourage it to stay. The scariest one however is when it withdraws into its PokeBall and comes back out, as it looks almost exactly like when it leaves. What Clefairy does between rounds doesn't effect anything and isn't caused by anything else either. It's just a different animation for the same thing.

Final Prize What's the point of all this? Coins? Well, yes absolutely. Coins are a way to get some seriously good early-game TM's. But also if you get a minimum of 10 rounds played in a row, you can talk to the front counter and she will grant you TM64 Explosion ONCE PER SAVE FILE despite her misleading after text. Be careful though, if you get the 10 Rounds DO NOT quit the slots to get your reward. You have to play it out until you lose.

TLDR; Okay so before we close out here, I'll do a quick TLDR version of everything. Step 1: Get a Coin Case Step 2: Start a game at the slots Step 3: Hope for a Clefairy to appear Step 4: Get a 777 or GGG to unlock Bonus Game Step 5: Follow Clefairy's commands always unless it's the Red Moon, in which case you do the exact opposite for that spin only. Step 6: profit.

Which one according to you is the hardest champion to beat, after Cynthia, and why?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 03:39 AM PDT

I am not including Diantha or Wallace because I am sure we can all agree that they are on the easier side (and also because of the 6 poll limit). I am also not including Trace because he does not feel important. I am not sure if I should include Orange Islands' Drake, Professor Kukui or Red since we can't fight them as champions in any game.

Edit: I feel that difficulty of champions depends mainly on the diversity and coverage of their teams. Cynthia is the hardest because she has both of these attributes. Even Diantha has both of these attributes but due to the implementation Exp. Share and overall easiness of X and Y, she is considered one of the easiest. Even Leon suffers from this problem, especially since now you can't turn off Exp. Share.

I Don't need a grand story in a mainline pokemon, but i would kill for more spinoff rpg that is exactly that

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 01:16 AM PDT

I kinda just play pokemon the same way people play monster hunter, I don't really care about the general story or the people in it, i just want to fight or catch the monster.

But, i also wouldn't mind if later down the road they make a story focus rpg, like a dragon quest or classic final fantasy, mixing both pokemons combat with other rpg stables like party members, an active time battle system, the return of triple battles as an example

Also considering this is a story focus one, i also like atleast the main character could finally talk too, with a personality and personal goals to have, and have real relationships with people, where they hate and love certain characters, maybe just because they are your party member not necessarily mean the main character has to like them.

    Watching the anime

    Posted: 19 Jun 2021 08:15 PM PDT

I'm going against all advice and trying to watch all 1,000 and something episodes of Pokémon. Right now I'm just on episode 20 of the very first season which I watched as a kid, and the nostalgia is unreal!

I forgot all of it until I started watching and it all starts coming back to me. The Charmander episode hit me right in he feels.

But I'm also excited to get to new stuff that I've never seen. Im not quite sure where I quit watching as a kid.

Not sure if I'll make it all the way but I'm enjoying myself at the moment. Really I just wanna get familiar with all the Pokémon because I just started playing the TCG and have no clue about the newer Pokémon.

Also I was wondering if the movies are worth watching?

Edit: a lot of people asking where I'm watching them at. I'm watching on the Pokémon TV App. They don't have all the seasons but they have seasons 1, 2, 10, 11, 20, 21, 22, 23 as well as Pokémon Origins, Generations, and Twilight Wings. Apparently they rotate which seasons are on there.

Pokemon Z? Pokemon Eclispe/Stars? Legends Kyruem?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 06:14 AM PDT

Why did they stop making games like Platinum or Emerald? I understand why they never made a Pokemon Grey but what about Z or Stars/Eclipse?

I would love to have a Pokemon Z game that expands the lore on Zygarde!

And what about Marshadow? We really need a game about it!

And speaking of Grey, I would love to have a game that focuses on Kyurems true form! Maybe a Pokemon Legends Kyruem?

Thoughts and Opinions - "Gymless" Towns, What you would put there?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 09:54 AM PDT

In the anime, it has been shown there are more gym badges (and assumed gym leaders) than just the normal eight that are in each game. I always thought it would be cool to have more gyms in games that aren't required but could still be challenged, even if it was postgame. It would also give a little more personality to some towns,

So as a thought, what gym would you create for a "gymless" town in the main series games?

    Example:

Dendimille Town (Kalos) would have a flying type gym leader, with a emphasis on sky battles. The whole windmill motif really doesn't lend itself to other types that much in my eyes.

At which minimum level do you think a single pidgey can finish all pokemon blue?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2021 03:29 PM PDT

I am doing a pokemon blue minimum battles challenge with this little guy, but my rules are very specific: if I get stuck in a battle (after trying 10 times normally and recording a "perfect try", consisting on a match where every turn for the opponent is a miss and each of ours is a critical hit) I am allowed to use a rare candy to repeat the process. Which level do you think I'm going to end up with?

GMAX Squirtle and GMAX Bulbasaur available to everyone over Mystery Gift (No need for Pokémon Home)

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 11:22 AM PDT

Just putting this out there for people who may not know and/or don't have Pokémon Home.

If you go to Mystery Gift-Get Via Internet you can get Squirtle and Bulbasaur both with GMax factors this way. No need for Home.

If you do have Home on your phone, you can get another pair of them. You can claim both with no issue. If you have both Sword and Shield, you can get 3 of each too.

Should the anime have kept pikachus volt tackle

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 11:01 AM PDT

Pikachu has had a large amount of moves over the series, but the most interesting for many is probably volt tackle. It even made it into the detective Pikachu movie. Its got a cool look to it, Pikachu is surrounded by an aura of electric energy exposing only his outline, while the energy drifts behind him. Its also a good double edge sword kinda move adding risk limiting its use. Then Pikachu forgot it in exchange for electroball, a weaker move, then electroweb which once again not nearly as interesting or cool. so does anyone else think Pikachu shoulda kept volt tackle?

    Which remake is your favorite?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2021 03:16 PM PDT

Hello! I wanted to make this poll in order to see how all of the remakes stack up against each other. I'm sure someone has made something similar to this before, but I'm unaware of it if anyone has, so I decided to make this. Also I didn't include BDSP because they are unreleased. However, I would like to repost this after they've been released so that I can see how it stacks up.

What is your opinion on Giovanni?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 05:04 AM PDT

Giovanni is the simplest villain in the series but also the most complex. He was the head of team rocket which controlled over kanto in gen 1 and in gen 2 he abandons it all to try to have a normal life till his mystery disappearance. I want to know how people feel about the first villain of the series over all his appearances.

the single worst move in pokemon

    Posted: 19 Jun 2021 03:53 PM PDT

before I tell you the worst move we need to lay down some ground rules. first rule no moves that are made to be bad like splash or surprise. yes these move are awful but that's the point.

second rule no early game moves like tackle or ember. these move are bad but that if for early game balance.

third rule no niche or gimmick moves like spite or mist. these move are bad most of the time but in the right scenario they can be powerful.

now to tell you the worst move we need to talk about a good move thunderbolt. thunderbolt is a 90 power special electric type move with 100 accuracy and 15 pp it also has a 10% chance to paralyze the opponent. now lets compare that to the worst move in all of Pokémon.wild charge is 90 power physical electric type move with 100 accuracy 15 pp and 25% of damage dealt is dealt back to the user as recoil.

lets break this down wild charge is identical to thunder bolt all ways except that its physical and i cant paralyze target and user takes 25% recoil.

    game freak

why can you name a worse move?

What's everyone's opinion on Ultra Beasts?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 08:24 AM PDT

Was curious to see what Peoples' overall opinions were of them. Understandably there would be different categories (Design, Lore, Battling etc.) but I'm curious what people think of them overall.

I like them as a concept, I think alternate dimension Pokémon are cool and perhaps would make an interesting spin-off title. I don't mind their design, I don't really care about their battle abilities, I just like catching Pokémon :)

Need some help deciding on the last member for my Black 2 team

I was thinking about mienshao, but you can't get one until quite late into the game, and I want a full team before the seventh gym (currently just beat the 5th gym). Anyone got any suggestions?

What was a "playground myth" spread around from your childhood about Pokemon?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 10:59 AM PDT

I'm asking for something either uncommonly heard of, or just from your childhood specifically. During Gen II, there was a rumor that if you leveled up Ho-Oh to level 100 it would learn a move called "Rainbow" that you could use outside of battle and you'd receive 100+ Rare Candies as well access to other legendary Pokemon. Boy, was I sure bummed out after all that grinding lol.

Could Machamp break the sound barrier?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 09:08 AM PDT

I'll be leaving all the math at the bottom of the post.

The Pokédex states that machamp can punch 1000 times every 2 seconds. To calculate how fast that is, we need to get time and distance, and divide them, with time being how long it takes a machamp to punch, and distance being how long machamps arm is (with him completely outstretching his arm to punch). First, time. Doing the math, we can get the amount of punches a single machamps arm does in a second, 125. Dividing that by a second (1.000) we get how long it takes for a machamp to punch a single time, 0.008 seconds. Then, we need to find out how long a machamps arm is to get distance. Doing some measurements off this artwork (link to art) we can see that machamps arm is roughly 4/6 of its total height. So, we get it height (1.6 meters) and divide it by 6 and then multiply it by 4 to get how big machamps arm is and we get 1.0666666666666667 meters, which I will be rounding to 1.07 meters. Then to finally get the speed, I divided distance into time to get the final result, 133.75 meters a second. To break the sound barrier you would have to be going at 343 meters a second. So no, a machamp can't break the sound barrier by punching.

    TL;DR-No.

MATH: 1000 divided by 4 is 250, giving us the amount of punches from a single arm. Halving that gets us the amount of punches a single arm can do in a second, 125. Dividing that by a second (125 divided by 1.000) gets how long it takes for a machamp to punch once, 0.008 seconds. The height of a machamp is 1.6 meters. An arm is roughly 2/3 of total height, so dividing by 6 will get one sixth of its height, then multiplying by 4 will get 4/6 or 2/3 of its height, or the size of its arm, which comes out at about 1.07 meters. To get speed, you need to divide distance into time, the distance being machamps arm and time being how long it takes it to punch. So, 1.07 divided by 0.008 is 133.75.

    Appraisal help

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 07:13 AM PDT

Guys! I need help. My older sister is expecting a child real soon, upon clearing out some old storage I found her collection of first edition Pokémon, jungle set, and fire set. I know many of you will be skeptical because of the amount of fakes, but my sister was the real deal with Pokémon. She opened up the cards and immediately but them in a card binder. Including the extras, duplicates, and packaging. Edit: I don't know much about cards, I know these have some valuable cards in them. A few shadowless holos and several holographics. Just want opinions on how to handle the process. Especially if you are a buyer or seller of cards already.

I'm asking this in terms of version exclusive stuff, cuz I know there are some version exclusives that are worse than their counterparts.

Is it true the banned "Legend of Dratini" episode was dubbed English?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2021 02:49 AM PDT

To this day the rumours and theories about the banned Pokemon episodes (mainly from S1) continue to peak my interest. I was shocked when It was revealed the infamous Porygon episode was actually dubbed in English, however due to the seizure backlash it was forbidden to air in the western markets.

The other banned episode which ultimately adds some missing pieces to the S1 plot is "The Legend of Dratini" episode aka the one where Ash catches a fuck load of Tauros that show up later on in the show lol. 🔫

Do you think it's possible 4kids dubbed the Dratini episode too? Some have said it was dubbed in English, but other fans have also stated the only version that exists is the original (Japanese) dub?

    What are your thoughts...

edit: apparently an episode from Hoenn saga was removed too and a NYE Pokemon special was supposed to air after the "Holiday Hi-Jynx" episode too. Inch resting. #poorporygon
