It’s so weird to see people turn around and miss HMs more and more.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:00 PM PDT

The removal of HMs was one of the best decisions I only remember people praising over. No longer did we need a slot wasted on a Pokémon only to know four field moves and prevent a full real team, or hinder a full team by wasting a move slot on each of them to traverse the region. Unova left many of them needed only for optional routes outside of small exceptions, Alola replaced them with partner Pokemon to a similar effect, and Galar's design only demanded the bike for inaccessible places. The freedom of team design and move sets are a breath of fresh air for all who wish to run a viable six-man party. No more HM slaves, no more lacking type coverage, no more waiting till the League to craft a full team of good moves.

Why the nostalgia for them anymore when the past five years of games have worked around the need?

Would you like to see voice-acting in future pokemon games?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 04:06 AM PDT

    Pretty self-explanatory.

Would you like voice acting in Pokemon games? If so, what kind of voice acting? - Regular english/french/japanese... - Legend Of Zelda-like voice acting - some sort of own language like Simlish - Only the expressions are voiced (f.e. Super Mario Odyssey)

Personally I'd love to see regular english/french/japanese. The games have evolved so much over the last decades but one constant has always been the absolute lack of voice acting. That constant is really feeling outdated to me in SwSh.

Edit: Why would you or wouldn't you want voice acting?

Main takeaway from the replies: seems like most people agree that voice acting would be nice to some degree, especially during cutscenes. A lot of people would love to see full voice acting. Most people who mention the player character would prefer them to be silent. Sadly, a lot of people seem to distrust GameFreaks ability to actually pull of decent VA and so would rather to stick with what we already have, which is no VA.

Pokémon low key needs a Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley kind of game.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 07:36 AM PDT

For all the fun times we have building an army of monsters with the power of friendship to wreck whatever comes our way, there's definitely a more modest side to Pokémon that I think Nintendo could stand to delve into more.

Imagine the ability to carve out your own little corner of the Pokémon world for a homestead of sorts? Not just a secret base or ranch like times past, but something more like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing that actually functions and feels lived in.

You could still do battles both with CPU and online players, but in the lulls between you'd be allowed to work together with your Pokémon buddies to grow crops, mine for goodies and build up your homestead (maybe even into a whole town!).

How you ultimately grow your property would be up to you; you could run a simple farm, create a dojo for trainers to toughen up in, build a small factory that can deliver goods near and far, perhaps even create a spiritual refuge for wayward Ghost types and ambitious archaeologists.

    A joking comlpaint

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:51 AM PDT

2-5 hit moves are a scam and I will not take criticism on that /lh

whenever the player uses a 2-5 hit move: average is a 2 or 3 at best
whenever literally any npc uses a 2-5 hit move: literally almost always 5 hits

this is blasphemy I demand a refund on my move /j

(It really does feel like they NEVER hit 5 times when used by a player though. Dang rng)

I don’t think SwSh’s ost slaps, I think it is just okay.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 08:49 AM PDT

Whenever people talk about SwSh negative or positive people always say the ost slaps. I don't see that. Now I do like some of the tracks like gym leader phase 1, Piers theme. Marnie's theme, most of the Legendary Pokémon battle themes, and the league tournament theme. There are probably more I like but these are the ones I remember.

The rest of the ost is pretty mid. I have a problem with a lot of the instruments feeling very….fake and plasticy. That sounds weird but I feel that a lot in the main battle theme. I think it wants to be electronic but it doesn't get that feeling across and lacks a lot of the oomph that the main battle theme normally has. The biggest problem with the ost is definitely the area themes. Except for a bit of the beginning of stow and side I can't remember any area themes. I love so many of the area themes in Pokémon like Vast Poni Canyon, Victory Road from Sun/Moon, and more. I can remember more songs from the gamecube Pokémon games. When I hear "this ost slaps" I think about a game like Xenoblade Chronicles and even though I played Pokemon SwSh for a longer amount of time, I can remember nearly every song from that game while I can only remember a select few from SwSh.

A reminder I don't think SwSh has a bad ost, but one that isn't as great as some people say it is.

Unown's last appearance and how to find all 28 forms

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 08:39 AM PDT

    Video version here.

One of the strangest species of Pokemon in my eyes are the Unown. The Unown were introduced in Generation 2 as the first Pokemon to have different forms; 26 to be exact, one to represent each letter of the English alphabet. Later in Generation 3, two new forms were introduced totaling 28, first accessible in Kanto's Seven Island. Soon after in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, we once again got a mysterious location full of these cryptic creatures. With the exception of remakes, we still haven't seen them since then. In this guide, I'll teach where you can find the 26 alphabetical forms and how to access to the secret room with the final esoteric forms to complete your collection.

The mysterious location spoken of is posted in central Sinnoh; The small and humble Solaceon Town. If you make your way to the Northeast area in this town, you will find a set of ledges to consecutively hop over. This will lead you to the Solaceon Ruins.

There are 7 floors to these maze-like ruins with the first floor being an introduction. These ruins are a labyrinth of crossing rooms so be prepared when entering here with an Escape Rope in hand. Out of the 26 Unown forms, the easiest to catch are the F, R, I, E, N, and D forms. Each "main room" of the floors have one of these forms and nothing else. To catch the F form, from the main entrance, visit the staircase in the upper right. In this room, you will only encounter the F form. Make your way deeper with the lower left staircase to the next room to find the R form. The top right staircase will lead you to the next room with the I form, and follow that up with the top left staircase for the E form. Penultimately, the top left staircase again will take you to the room with the N form, and lastly the lower left stairs will guide you to the D form.

Once you've captured those 6, It gets a little more hit-or-miss on finding specific forms. Let's use that escape rope to get out of here. Upon re-entering the Ruins, let's make our way to the staircase in the upper left. You can find the remaining 20 Unown forms in this room or any of the other similar small dead-end rooms like this one, each with a 5% chance of encountering. I hope you're not claustrophobic as you'll be in this room for a little while. As regular Pokemon hunting goes, go back and forth in this room until you encounter each and every variant remaining. It helps to have a physical checklist, as the capture icon under the Pokémon's name will not reflect if you have the specific form.

After about an hour or so, you should be pretty close to completing your list, and once you have all 26 alphabetical forms, fly on over to Veilstone City. Make your way South into Route 214, and soon you'll find this entrance to the cave. This cave, named the Maniac Tunnel, contains a man who loves to dig. This Ruin Maniac will propose a race; he will dig straight through mountain as you capture different Unown. The cave will lengthen based on how many different forms you've captured. The video linked above has footage of what the cave's appearance will look like in each for. Once you have all 26 forms, this cave will fully expand to the other side to reveal a secret entrance to a hidden chamber in the Solaceon Ruins. In this hidden chamber, you will find the only location of obtaining the ? and ! forms of Unown.

Oh one last thing I'd like to mention before closing out – There is another benefit to these Unown forms. From Solaceon Town's Pokemon Center with an Unown form in your party, make your way towards the Ruins but hop down the second set of ledges. In this house you can talk to the lady who will give you the Seal Case, and then talk to the boy. Seals are a pretty memorable feature from the Gen 4 games and this boy will give you infinite amounts of letter seals based on the forms you show him. Then you can use those seals to make cool effects shown in the video.

This was a fun video to make as the last time I caught all of the Unown forms was roughly 16-17 years ago in my middle school days. It was fun to explore the Maniac Tunnel and see the Digging Maniac expand and break through the Ruins wall. Hope you enjoyed!

If you were a Pokémon, which one would you be?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 07:02 PM PDT

I was playing one of the mystery dungeon games (a spin off series with amazing stories where you play as a Pokémon) and I got to wondering how other people would answer this question since I can never really decide for myself what to play as! Anybody in touch with their inner Pokémon?

In your opinion which is the most forgotten/overlooked pokemon generation?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 04:18 AM PDT

I'm honestly so bored right now and I think it will be interesting to see what everyone thinks so hopefully this works.

In my opinion I think that generation 6 is pretty forgotten even by game freak since we got no further expansion on the x and y games which was unfortunate since they could have incorporated Zygarde into Kalos' story more yknow. I feel It would have given it more depth. Maybe i'm wrong idk. ORAS was pretty good though.

Also I had to group some generations together since there wasn't enough space so rip sorry 💔

Opinions on dropping your starter from your team

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 11:30 AM PDT

I personally make my teams so I have a counter to every type in the game, making me also gain a habit of dropping non-dual type starters, which ends up with me coming back to each game, seeing my original starter in my PC, and feeling bad. I usually save my dual-type starters, but I still think about the single-type starter guilt.

I generally also pick grass-type starters, with the occasional water type.

What's your opinion on dropping your first pokemon?

    Potential additions to Sinnoh.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 10:01 AM PDT

With the upcoming Sinnoh remakes, I've been thinking about what Pokemon could easily be added to the region while fitting the region as well. One line came immediately to mind, Coalossal. Since Oreburgh has a coal mine directly attached to it, that whole line would be a perfect fit there, maybe even replacing the Golem line in the Sinnoh dex. Plus it also adds another fire type into the region. Any other suggestions would be great!

Help identifying these hologram cards? Picture of full sheet & more info in text. Thanks!

Edit: Solved. They are Pokemon Stadium Action 3D cards. Thanks r/ArtfulAnya

A friend of mine who worked in the promo products industry was given this by a printer vendor in the late 90's or early Y2K. They are holographic and printed on a plastic sheet. Sorry I don't have close ups, but I'm hoping someone can help me identify the cards. Thanks!

If every gen 5 gym leader was the first part 2

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 10:49 AM PDT

    1.)clay

I'd give him drilbur with weak moves. For his ace mon sandile fits dark specialists far more than ground imo so I'd choose Golet. Palpitoad is too strong (tympole is mono water and stunfisk is too strong plus doesn't fit him). Golett is tougher than drilbur and would fit clay more.

    Drilbur level 11

    Mud sport mud slap

    Golett level 12

    Astonish defense curl mud slap

    2.)skyla

Skarmory is too strong. Ducklett is too derpy. Archen is too primitive derpy clumsy and strong as well especially with its coverage. Tranquil is a bit too strong. Vullaby is derpy. I'd go with rufflet and pidove.

    Pidove level 12

    Gust growl

    Rufflet oran berry level 13

    Wing attack Leer

    3.)brycen

Ice ninja only 3 ice families. Cryogonal is a floating nunchuck but is way too strong. So I'd do this since neither other mons really fit brycen. I'd make it a long mon solely based on its physical stats not special, which are far weaker. All the unova starters at this point are also physical save oshawott(who still has pound).

    Cryogonal level 13 oran berry

    Ice shard sharpen

    My team for Black

I could use an opinion on my team for Black. The current team is Emboar, Simipour, Sawsbuck, Galvantula, Golurk, and Bisharp. If any one could critique my team and point out any faults or recommendations it would be appreciated. Also if any of the members need to be replaced please recommend a replacement.

Who on Earth at GF keeps making tanky ice types?!

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 04:07 PM PDT

Yes, I know, IRL ice is really strong, but in Pokemon it's the most pathetic defensive typing ever, the only thing it resists is itself meanwhile it has multiple weaknesses like fighting, steel and fire. Of course Ice isn't the only victim, rock types too get this but at least rock can kinda resist some attacks. Also the many awfully weak dual types like Coalossal.

It might be OP but I would like some ability for these pokemon that reverses their strengths and weaknesses, maybe these guys can serve as actual tanks then.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 05:05 AM PDT

I can see on the internet that there are 82 episodes in first season( Indigo league) but I can only find 52 on pokemon TV. So what is that? Some sites say there is 82 episodes and some say 52 so can someone explain? That is about it, I just need help with that thing and if you are wondering this is just a filler so you can probably stop reading.

Does Randomizer make the cheats not work?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 10:55 AM PDT

Alright, so, it's my first time using a Randomizer, and used it on FireRed to remove Trade Evos, and just got to Celadon City, and I'm trying to use cheat codes to skip the process of grinding coins to buy the gift pokemon, like Scyther, and... well, none of the cheats work, the Visual Boy Advance M just says that the cheats are for a different game... so, did me adding "custom" to the tail-end of the game's name make the cheats inoperable?

    Pokémon insurgence monotype run

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 09:06 AM PDT

For those who don't know Pokémon insurgence is a fan game made by the creators of Pokémon zeta and Pokémon ominicron

Being one of my favorite games I wanted to do a monotype run but I can't think of a type to do. I am leaning towards ice type mono but I might do another type or challenge altogether (not a nuzlocke or similar)

Can you give me suggestions to what special clauses (I'll be playing normal mode btw)

I read that they could be traded but feel free to say if that information was wrong. Only trade if you have one spare on an alt account or don't need it. DM me.

What's your favorite randomly generated pokemon #3: Water type

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 12:24 PM PDT

I chose six pokemon with a random number generator, also, I chose the first pokemon in the evolution line, for no real reason. I'm going to do grass type next. This is supposed to include the whole line of pokemon. If something has a split evolution line (Slowbro and Slowking), just include both lines in your decision. However, Mega evolutions and the like don't count.
