    Nurse Joy is a Pokemon.

There's multiple identical versions of her scattered around the world.

    There's a shiny form.

There's an alolan form (and other regional forms, too)

What is the rarest pokemon you own across all games?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 11:54 PM PDT

I'm interested to learn what some of the rarest pokemon are out there that people have collected throughout the years. For me I believe my two rarest are my shiny wishmaker jirachi from pokemon coliseum that I've transfered all the way to pkm shield and my shiny mimikyu that I obtained from a pokemon center japan Halloween event. Let me know what you guys have!

I spent over 700 hours making a free game called The Poké RPG (like Dungeons and Dragons). I just released a major rulebook update and new Pokemon (All of gen 5).

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 07:28 AM PDT

    Check it out on r/PokeRPG!

The Poké RPG is a tabletop RPG with a free rulebook and Pokedex. It is fully illustrated with beautiful art from over 20 artists (all approved the use of their work). It has everything you need to do those things you always wished were possible in the games. Climb walls? Check. Use your Onix to dig tunnels into a Rocket Base? Check. Join Team Rocket instead? Check.

You can make any kind of character or trainer you can imagine in the world of Pokemon. You can be a psychic, a robotics expert, a specialist Pokemon trainer, an expert on healing and first aid, a mix of any of these, and much more. Check it out if you like Pokemon or like tabletop RPGs!

Which is your favorite Grass type starter line?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 05:37 PM PDT

I saw two other people post the water and fire poll, now its time for the grass master race. My two favorite are a tie between Torterra and Venusaur. I just cant choose between them. Bulbasaur and Turtwig are truly 🐐s best of the best. No one can tell me otherwise

Wartortle is overshadowed by Blastoise way too much

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 03:53 PM PDT

In design wise I mean, not competitive (although Wartortle isn't a horrible NFE mon). Wartortle is a great progression of Squirtle adding ears, a more complex tail, changing the colour from a cyan to indigo and some more stuff. It's got an interesting inspiration being the Minogame which is a turtle that lived for 10000 years and grew a seaweed tail in Japanese legends. Wartortle looks like a gateway to an amazingly designed elderly turtle of the deep that packs a punch. But instead we got Blastoise. I don't hate Blastoise but its cannons are random and weird and it removes the things that made Wartortle so interesting. It feels like it was ripped from another similar line... because it was! If you didn't know in the red and green beta Wartortle had a different evolution that kept the tail and ears and actually expanded on them. And Blastoise was part of a two stage line with a cute baby Blastoise that looks like it would gain cannons.

Wow this was longer then I expected

I don't like the idea of a 3D remake of Black and white

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 07:39 PM PDT

I'm not the type of person that goes "3D bad 2D good", but i think of all 2D pokemon, BW age like a fine wine, espiecially for a base game standard, the sprite work in my opinion is right there with neo geo level sprite work.

If anything i think XY should get the remake treatment over BW later down the road, so much potential clearly made for a future installment that just never worked out in the end like poor zygarde, and just remaster BW/BW2 fit it on a single screen and keep the graphics untouched.

But if they have to remake bw to still keep the unwritten order of only the gen after the previous remake will be remade otherwise, otherwise the universe breaks or something.

then maybe be cool for once and do like a octopath style remake like we see in dragon quest 3 remake, using all the sprites from bw/bw2, while also putting bw/bw 2 in one episodic package...(or realistically, 2 package but like pokemon b/b2 and w/w2) perhaps even be made by the same team, while gamefreak makes a full 3D bw3 starring the original Dragon.

    I'm finally a Pokémon Master

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 05:25 PM PDT

I've been playing Pokémon since 1999. I've had Generation 1 Pokémon games since then, but in all this time, I've never captured all 151 of the Original Pokémon....

Until now. Finally, I've captured all 151 Pokémon on Yellow version. Special thanks to my beautiful wife for helping complete this task.

Finally, I am a Pokémon Master

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 05:21 AM PDT

With the gen 4 remakes less than 3 months away, Im sure you all are as excited as I am. The games look fantastic.. BUT there still is one thing I want to see be announced and that is MEGA EVOLUTIONS! The "lets go" games are the first ones Ive played with mega evolutions and I love them. Being that every remake has had them since x/y came out... what do you guys think? Will the new remakes have them or not?

EDIT: my bad for putting "sadly no" if you dont like them... no need to be a douche

I was today years old when I learned that gym badges level restrictions don't apply to your personally caught Pokemon.

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 08:37 AM PDT

I've been playing for well over a decade. I started in gen 2.

It has taken me this long... To finally learn that if my pokemon is level 31, and my badges only work up to level 30, my pokemon will still obey me.

Was it always like this? Maybe I'm not completely stupid.

Edit: Thanks guys, 😂. We have solidly confirmed that I've been completely stupid for almost 15 years.

Unpopular Opinion: X and Y are very underrated games

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 10:58 PM PDT

I remember a time where X and Y were often criticized and looked down upon by the fan base as a whole. Inherently, these games do have flaws and shortcomings, which many people pin the story for being weak, not too much content, few new Pokes, no 3rd game to support it, etc. As with other games in the franchise, the gen 6 games have drawbacks in different areas.

Needless to say, I always find X and Y as somewhat comforting and relaxing every single time I visit it. While these games were released in the year I got back into the franchise, nevertheless I hold a unique appreciation for these games. The massive change in graphics, how beautiful the region looked in many areas, the new Pokémon introduced, the largest base dex ever for a Pokémon game, the revolutionary PSS, Pokémon Amie, Megas, etc. All these characteristics bring me back to replaying these games, and the additions they brought to the franchise are always fun to revisit via this game every single time I replay it.

Which is your favorite Legendary Pokémon?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 06:00 AM PDT

What is your favorite art style Pokémon has had?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 08:15 AM PDT

Note: This is not necessarily a post about what art style you want Pokémon to use for the franchise's games going forward. This is a post about what style you like the most.

I'm a 3D chibi fellow myself. It pays homage to the art style of the pre-3D era of Pokémon, while also allowing you to suspend disbelief easier by not having Pokémon to scale. IMO, seeing Charizard shorter than Leon looked pretty weird.

he only style that I don't like at all is the purely 2D style. It's just a direct downgrade from 2.5D, and while nostalgic, isn't a great design choice for making 3D spaces.

If you could gain one item from the Pokemon world in real life, what would it be?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 04:00 AM PDT

There are a ton of interesting items in the Pokemon world and I am sure that some of those would come in handy in real life too. I would prefer to get the amulet coin and double the amount of money that I would earn. That's just me though. If you could gain one item from the Pokemon world in real life, what would it be?

Has Dynamax killed strategy in competitive battling?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 02:14 AM PDT

My main talking point here is an example I just faced - Liepard vs Turtonator, I know he's going to shell smash, so I hit him with an encore. Before dynamax that would be GG, but now you can just buff away and then dynamax and sweep. What's the point of encore anymore? I also found out the other week that Dynamax is unaffected by Destiny Bond? Another prime strat dead in the water.

Do you think cindaquil, rowlet, and oshawott will get regional evolutions?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 04:19 PM PDT

I've read some interesting theories about how bringing these starters from different regions into a new, harsher climate could be a reason for evolving differently than how we previously knew them to evolve. Given that we are yet to see any evolutions in the trailers, do you guys consider this to be a feasible possibility or just a pipe dream?

Which is your favourite Water Type Starter?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 11:54 AM PDT

HI! I saw someone post a poll about which Fire type starter was everyone favourite and I wondered which everyone's favourite water type starter was. Most of the water type starters are strong and have epic designs.

My favourite is Swampert and/or Greninja mainly because of their typings, designs and megas. Whats your favourite water type starter? And why?

How many times have you played through Sword/Shield

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 03:25 AM PDT

This game gets such a negative reaction but I've played through it twice now, and once through the DLC, and I'm contemplating going back in for a third and final run through it all. Maybe hit the Isle of Armor earlier on in my journey and experience all the content in one go rather than waiting for each DLC to drop like I did the first time around.

I was wondering how many people have had multiple play throughs and what you did differently to keep the game feeling fresh?

I actually love this gen so would hate to dip one too many times and spoil it for myself.

    Favorite pseudo legendary?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 09:03 AM PDT

Unfortunately there's only room for six, so I figured I would include who I thought would be the most popular. This poll is more centered around personal preference rather than competitive prowess, but feel free to choose whichever you like most for whatever reason. I also had to include my personal favorite, Hydreigon. Excited to hear what everyone thinks! Let's discuss...

What are some wholesome uses for Pokemon?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 12:52 PM PDT

I remember seeing artwork a while ago of Pokemon being used as "service Pokemon," like a seeing eye Growlithe and a Chatot helping someone who had a stutter. And it got me thinking about super sweet and wholesome uses for Pokemon!

One that I thought of was using Gothita when treating PTSD and other trauma-related conditions. Not only is it super cute, but it can learn Play Nice. Since some people with PTSD can be sensitive to being touched, a therapist could make sure that the Gothita doesn't trigger a trauma response, since they could make sure it's a safe time to use Play Nice. Plus, a Pokemon with Heal Pulse would be useful in general (EDIT: and Hypnosis for insomnia treatment)!

What are your thoughts? Do you have any creative ideas for wholesome Pokemon?

Is Nintendo Switch accessible for someone with celebral paisy?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 10:57 AM PDT

Hi, i hope my post isn't off topic

I'm affected with CP, which means i'm wheelchair bound and have poor hand-eye coordination and hand mobility.

I don't currently own a console, my last one was a Nintendo DSi which was pretty easy to use given that almost all the games featured full touchscreen support and it was easy to find a capacitive stylus comfortable to hold

I decided to try and get myself a switch to help time pass by during idle moments (laying in bed or using breathing machine), and i'm currently saving up to get one, i should be able to afford one in December or next year.

But before i buy it i was wondering if the console is accessible, and any suggestions on accessible games (my favourite back in the days were Zelda and Pokemon, i had some difficults playing Mario Kart DS for example)

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Thanks! 😁

(crossposted from r/nintendoswitch because i thought i could get more pokemon-specific feedbacks here)

Give male combee a use in BDSP

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 04:00 AM PDT

It's been useless for 4 generations since the start of gen 4 and I think it's time it gets something new (an evolution)

My thoughts is that it could be a bee-wasp hybrid evolution with the same Sp. Attack, HP and Sp. Def as vespiquen upon evolution (same when female combee evolves) but has more defense and attack than it (but has lower speed than vespiquen), i am planning in naming it Vespiking (and will be classed as the 'Royal wasp' pokemon), but I'll let you guys come up with a name. And its dex states that it may go out to gather honey with combee, but its a very rare thing, unless the honey supply is low, if a pokemon attacks the combee, Vespiking will protect the combee at all cost, fighting back with its stinger, if a pokemon raids its hive, it will fight back, if it doesn't do well and the attacker starts to attack vespiquen, it will try and pick itself up by fighting for the vespiquen its protecting, and may give up its own life to protect the colony.

Main abilities would consist of compound eyes and honey gather, whereas its hidden ability would be speed boost

    The truth about GameFreak

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 06:37 AM PDT

I would like to preface this by saying yes, Legends Arceus does not look good nor does it hold up graphically to almost all triple A games within the past decade. I'm not going to deny anything about how the game looks or plays.

I would also like to say I was one of the people taking a dump on Pokemon Sword and Shield. I still believe the games are pretty bad. However, I am looking forward to Legends Arceus for reasons I'll explain.

So, Game Freak. Basically an Indie company forced to churn out multiple pokemon games pretty much every year. They're understaffed (167 total employees, and keep in mind not all of them work on the game) but it's hard to train new hires because that takes time and energy that they don't have. They're impossibly crunched with every new title. I can't imagine their work lives are any less than hell.

Budget wise, it can be hard to tell, but I have reason to believe they're really not given much. SwSh's budget was estimated to be 20 or 30 million USD. To put it in perspective, GTA V was between 100 mil and 500 mil USD and Halo 2 was up to 500 mil USD. These are just a few examples of big games but usually triple A titles tend to be at least 5 times SwSh's estimated budget. I personally think this is mostly controlled by the Pokemon company.

The Pokemon Company. The web of smaller groups that make up the highest grossing media franchise of all time. "Why don't they just give Game Freak more money?" Well because they're only out for a profit. And a big one. The reason they would limit the budget of games so much is because they know with near certainty the same amount of people if not more will buy the game each year. Why listen criticism if the numbers are doing better than ever? Also, the Pokemon anime, TCG, plushies, mobile games, and quite a bit more rely on a very tight schedule of Pokemon game releases. They can't just delay a game because it would internally throw off the entire franchise. This is a massive thing that a lot of people fail to realize, and honestly it's easy to overlook when you're just thinking in the scope of the games.

What I'm trying to say is, obviously Pokemon is behind. Their new games would have only held up to other franchises probably more than 5 years ago. But please understand GameFreak most likely is doing the best they can with the resources they have. Again, I don't want people to stop criticising the game because of this. This leads me to my next point:

Legends Arceus is a huge step in the right direction for Pokemon games. I think that it's only possible because BDSP was handed off to another company so GameFreak can focus on Legends Arceus. Features such as riding pokemon everywhere, an actual open world, action elements in rolling, throwing pokeballs and evading wild creatures, what i think is an ingenious way of improving the battle system- they're responding to what the majority of the community wants, despite their situation. Think about it. GameFreak is still trying to give the community what we want while working within the harsh constraints their higher-ups put on them.

The point of this post? I just want people to be more educated on the Pokemon games. I was once in a situation where I was blindly criticising SwSh because I didn't understand these things. I've seen two posts of "the cliff" in r/gaming blow up, but they always seemed to frame GameFreak in a bad light. If they made that post and titled it something like "When The Pokemon Company gives you a tiny budget and a year to make a game with 150 people" (I'm bad at titles) I would support it.

And one more time I want to say that I'm not trying to stop criticism. Just for good measure. Can't be too careful.

(Thank you to those who read this far!)

Edit: tl;dr GameFreak is not at fault for crappy games, the Pokemon Company is heavily crunching them and giving them little resources, but Legends Arceus is a step in the right direction for the franchise
