Like, just look at it. For one thing, we don't need any more humanoid Pokemon. Its first stage showed so much promise, and this is what we get? It's original form had a very solid design with a simple theme. It barely even looks like its original form. It just looks like a person wearing an outfit that vaguely looks like the animal it was based on. And while having powerful legs is neat in concept, it's not enough to base an entire Pokemon around.

Anyway, that was my rant about Blaziken. Super hype for Sword and Shield though.

PSA: The Dexit chart going around has been confirmed fake (for real this time)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:09 AM PST

On my previous post I'd forgotten that the chart ignored Gigantimax forms, as I remembered a different chart a while ago that did, and claimed it was false based on that. While it still had several errors such as only Porygon 2 but not 1 or Z being included, Galar Stunfisk is the nail in the coffin; the chart didn't have Stunfisk in, let alone a Galar form.

The most perfect Gen 8 line so far....

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:51 AM PST

....has got to be the Corviknight line. I was a fan from the start, but seeing Rookidee and Corvisquire only solidified it more for me. GameFreak, despite their many missteps, knocked it out of the park on this one to me.

Definitely has to be in my top 3 regional bird lines alongside Pidgey and Fletchling!

Those new Ice-types are based on something cool! (SPOILERS AHOY)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 08:31 AM PST

    (Yes, the pun was intended.)

    Hi!

So, as all of us leak-followers have seen, there are two new Ice-types, Snom and Frosmoth, which are Ice/Bug, that have been revealed so far. As u/oil7892 has shown us in an earlier post, they look like this: https://imgur.com/gallery/wFcWqJ1

I noticed that not only are they based on moths, we can pinpoint what kind of moths they are, and GameFreak is pulling from some pretty awesome source material here.

Snom is based on a "jewel caterpillar", the unusual-looking caterpillars of the Dalceridae family of moths, so named due to the gelatinous covering over their exoskeleton. Snom looks very similar -- it has the little spike-nubs all over its body, with its face peeking out. Here's another image of the same type of caterpillar, and here's one where you can't see the face. They can also have some very interesting coloration, so there's a lot of potential for the shiny of this little guy.

Frosmoth, however, seems to be based on a totally different type of moth, that being Bombyx mori, the domesticated silkmoth. Its wings seem to be heavily stylized, but its coloration and antenna shape are very similar. Notably, wild silkmoths don't look much like this at all, and instead look like this. The domesticated silkmoth has actually lost its color pigments, hence its unusual white color in comparison to Bombyx mandarina, the wild silkmoth. Additionally, it has lost its ability to fly -- although Frosmoth is still capable of flight in its 3D model, it is notably Ice/Bug -- not a Flying-type at all!

I also wonder, since Snom is a jewel caterpillar, if the shiny version of Frosmoth is going to be orange, like this particular member of Dalceridae: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b6/Acraga_moorei_%287420640470%29.jpg/1200px-Acraga_moorei_%287420640470%29.jpg

So, in short, Snom and Frosmoth are both based on some very interesting types of real moths! We have a jewel caterpillar that evolves into a domesticated silkmoth. I love when the Pokemon games do things like this -- using unusual but recognizable species as the basis for new Pokemon.

Does Anyone Else Think Gen 6 Has The Most Underrated Pokedex in History?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:41 AM PST

In the reactions to a lot of the Sw/Sh leaks, I've heard people trashing gen 6's pokemon, saying it was "the moment designs started going downhill". But am I missing something? I've always felt Gen 6 has an abundance of clean, solid designs that don't rely on gimmicks or over designing to be successful:

    • Talonflame, Pyroar, Gogoat, Florges and Heliolisk were all really solid "real animal or plant" designs, combining the animal or plant in question and an element, without making the designs too "character-like" or "human".
    • Fall all the flack people give Gen 6 for continuing the "humanoid" trend, Greninja came at the start, and once in motion, quickly ascended to become one of the most popular Pokemon of all time. Likewise, Hawlucha is a really popular Pokemon.
    • The region was PACKED with amazing dragon types: Noivern, Goodra and Dragalge all being great and well designed Pokemon.
    • The fossil Pokemon are simply put, amazing. Aurorus is one of the sleekest and most majestic looking Pokemon ever, and Tyrantrum is absolutely awesome too.
    • Xerneas and Yveital are sleek, well designed and aesthetically pleasing legendaries compared to the complicated dragon designs of gen 4 and 5's legends.
    • Even the much maligned "inanimate object" Pokemon were well-done: both Aegislash and Klekfi were unique in concept and battle, quickly making fans warm to them.
    • Other Pokemon like Clawitzer, Malamar, Dedenne, Trevenant/Gourgeist and Meowstic were solid, simplistic, well received designs too.

Even though Gen 6 introduced relatively few new Pokemon, it still really made a big impact with what it had.
