    Thank you GF

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 05:01 AM PST

Thank you GF,for taking my favorite video game franchise and making it devoid of content, thank you for cutting Sceptile and oshowatt ,pokemon I literally have childhood memories with.Thank you for never changing, for making one unique move in sun and moon and going right back to the same gym formula nobody cares for.Thank you for watching your competitors improve and choosing not too.Thank you for focusing your time more on reusing sun and moon animations and curry then my favorite Pokémon. Thank you for ruining my most hyped game of the year

Outer worlds is all I have left

EDIT-I has thought the games had 8 hours of content and was wrong(it's actually 30) and I realize how I can stifle my own argument by saying devoid of content,so we will now say "devoid of new and innovative content" because besides the wild area it's roughly the same and could have been much more in terms of new innovation Also, when I talk about the gyms,I'm not saying I wanted them to continue the trials,I'm saying that instead of going back to basic gyms in order boom elite 4, it should have continued with a new system every generation to continue to keep us fans on edge instead of going right back

When Metroid Prime 4 releases, Pokemon will probably be even more embarrassingly backwards.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 06:36 AM PST

They literally rebooted development just so the game would satisfy all fan expectations (which basically means anything below a 10/10 is unacceptable) and then blow us away even more.

So we first had Zelda, Nintendo's series where they feel safe to experiment cause it's not Mario become one of the best games in the history of gaming, with Nintendo then making a Mario game that finally dethroned M64, and Smash? Everyone is here! Yeah. And they finally got the western market to appreciate Fire Emblem instead of hating on it cause Smash.

So then there's Metroid. We a basically know it is destined to be a 10/10 game, and so...

Why can't GameFreak do what other 2nd party devs like Monolith did with, say, Xenoblade? It makes no sense. And I don't believe we should accept it

    Poketuber Tyranitartube supports #bringbacknationaldex

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 08:47 AM PST

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tD7lVZfuBVs

One of the biggest poketubers on the platform Tyranitartube just made a video about the national Dex. Although he doesn't support them spamming them and harassing them on Twitter.

He puts very valid points and if there is enough backlash towards Pokemon, his points could be made a reality.

Also, let me remind you, don't harass the developers of the game, since they're clearly understaffed and it's not their fault the game is this way. I love Pokemon and I want to see it improve, so I'd recommend to put your anger at gamefreak. Remember, when the game comes out, don't review bomb it unless you've played it, otherwise the media may turn on us.

The reason I got a Ledian tattoo

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 01:36 AM PST

I posted a picture on reddit when I got it done, but a few months ago I got my first tattoo. Obviously, as you can see in the title, it was of a Ledian. There was a lot of sentimental value for me in getting this tattoo.

When I was a kid, I had a grandmother who I was very closed to. She was often the person to actually buy my Pokemon games for me, and even though she was one of those parental figures that called every Pokemon "Pikachu", she still listened when I babbled on about the games. She was someone I could talk to about anything.

She also was obsessed with ladybugs. Every room in her home had some kind of ladybug candle, decoration, or other knickknack. My most vivid memory of one of these was a candle-holder ladybug that sat on her counter so you saw it as soon as you walked into her home.

She always used to say she wanted to get a goofy looking ladybug tattoo some day. And one day when I was 15, I decided to show her Ledyba and Ledian. She immediately loved them, and said that Ledyba was exactly what she had in mind for a tattoo. I asked if we could get them together some day (her Ledyba, me Ledian), and she loved the idea. Bug pokemon are kind of my thing, they've always been my favorites, so I was really excited to share something I love with something my grandmother loved. These pokemon were like the combination of all our favorite things. We were gonna do it when I was 18.

Unfortunately, soon after that convo she got sick, and she died of breast cancer two years later.

It took me some time to grieve and to get in a good financial and mental space to get this tattoo. But eventually I was able to, and I'm so happy I did because every time I look at them, I'm reminded of what it was like to go to my grandmother's house and see the ladybugs everywhere.

My sister, who also isn't a big Pokémon fan, is going to be getting the Ledyba in my grandmother's stead. I think she's excited to get a permanent reminder too of a person we loved so much. And I'm happy she's getting Ledyba, because I see a lot of my grandmother her.

I know Ledian isn't the best Pokemon ever. It's pretty bad in the games, and it's not very popular among fans either. I wouldn't even call it my favorite pokemon of all time. But it means something big to me, and it's always going to be special for me.

    Here's the tattoo

Sword/Shield director Ohmori maintains that the national dex won't be coming back

    Posted: 09 Nov 2019 05:36 PM PST

I'm sure you've all seen the part of that new Dutch interview that talks about the EXP share. There's more: https://www.insidegamer.nl/artikel/in-gesprek-met-ohmori-en-masuda-over-pokemon-sword-en-shield/

The missing National Dex is of course also discussed, of which we mainly want to know whether it will return in the future. Will there be an update or a third game? According to Masuda, Game Freak wants to continue the approach for Sword and Shield:

"We now have no plans to make the pokémon that are missing in the Galar pokédex in-game available. That is an approach that we want to continue with Pokémon games in the future. Of course, up to now it has not been possible to encounter every pokémon in every game, so people had to transfer it from old games via Pokémon Bank to the new game, for example. "

On the one hand, that is understandable, because Masuda previously indicated that Game Freak does not have the manpower to animate all pokémon if it also wants to introduce new game play features. On the other hand, Pokémon is pretty much the largest franchise in the world and it is not unreasonable to expect a complete Pokédex from the new parts. As a compromise, however, Junichi Masuda claims that the Pokémon Home app, which will be released in 2020, will be the place to collect pokémon from all games.

"Currently, the Pokémon Home app is under development, where players can collect their different pokémon, and only pokémon in the Galar-Pokédex can be transferred from there to Sword and Shield," he says. "But the way of playing is actually not very different from before with Pokémon Bank: until now you have always been able to meet only the pokémon of a certain region."

He continues: "We encourage people to use Pokémon Home to collect their pokémon from old games there. From there, they might be able to take it to other games in the future. So take good care of your old pokémon, because you might be able to go out with them again in the future. "

If there's truly no future Pokémon game with National Dex, Pokémon Go will become the last game to include all of the Pokémon (through future generations updates).

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 01:13 AM PST

What do think about it? Personally, if find it reassuring to know that it will be a sort of "safe haven" for all poke, but I also think that it's both a blessing and a curse. Not a lot of people can commit to playing such a game enough time to "collect 'em all"...

I wish declining sales wasn't literally the only way to get feedback across to gamefreak

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 09:53 AM PST

I really want to be excited about the new games, but it seems like they actively ignore any criticism, and downright go against what long-time fans want. It would be nice if they gave at least some sort of positive response to feedback. Imagine how happy everyone would be if they actually indulged their fanbase in some way, and brought back the battle frontier or something

Despite overwhelming controversy from the internet and people as a whole, it just seems like we're talking to a brick wall; with every response to criticism coming across as "we don't care about your opinions, we're sticking to our decisions and we like money"

After reading some of his interviews, and seeing how little they respond to their fanbase, it just makes me genuinely sad. Because I really do like pokemon as a series, but it seems like it's on the decline in the current year

EDIT: They do kind of listen to feedback, like how they removed the need to hatch hundreds of eggs to get that perfect nature/IV pokemon. But those positive quality of life changes just seem overshadowed by the removal of things like the national dex, and substantial post-game content

GameFreak should get rid of trade evolutions

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 02:45 AM PST

And I mean change the evolution method for Pokemon who evolve by trade. They aren't above changing evolution methods, as they changed Feebas from evolving through Pokemon Contests in Gen 3 and 4 to a trade evolution in Gen 5.

The idea behind trade evolutions came from Satoshi Tajiri watching kids playing games on their Gameboys with Link Cables and imagining bugs crawling from one end of the cable to the other. The whole idea sprouted from friends playing the game together and bonding. But that doesn't really work, because there are no more Link Cables, you can just trade over the internet. You don't need to have a friend with a copy of the game. So there's no point in trade evolutions, especially now that online is locked behind a paywall.

Ohmori acknowledged the Thank you Game Freak hashtag straight away but it took them 2 weeks to achkowldge BringBackNationalDex

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 10:42 AM PST

It feels like they know exactly what they're doing and they don't care how obvious it is. Force people to pay for a new service so they can shut down the old one making it impossible to get pokemon from gens 3-5 into newer games and cut pokemon so people have to pay for the service repeatedly or risk losing their Pokemon or them getting stuck. The worst part is they know they can get away with it, where companies like EA or Activision would get dragged over the coals for this, Pokemon gets away with it.

Gamefreak needs a wake up call to address the incompetence and lack of effort in their titles

    Posted: 09 Nov 2019 08:25 PM PST

Pokémon hasn't been a series that you could say met standards of being a triple A game for far too long. Most of my friends and I have stopped having high expectations after gen 4 and when we'd get disappointed about missing features or the lack of actual in game content in a new games release we always let it slide because it got the "it's a Pokémon game" pass. We knowingly lower our standards because we know that it's coming from Gamefreak. They've been a meme to the community for as long as I can remember. Dual release copies of generations with little to no difference, same linear story with borderline same premise, same inability to carry on any good features from a previous title, always adding features no one wanted or asked for in lieu of fan favorite options that should be no brainers.

If we looked at any other company for example that let 5-6 consecutive MAIN LINE games have minimal content and quality that series would die. But because it's a game that's low quality body can hide behind the billion dollar face that is Pokémon's franchise as a whole. The movies, the anime, the cute little Pikachu plushies, etc are all the strong back bone this jelly fish of a game can thrive off of. Without the nostalgia, source material, years of advertisements and media the game itself is in a horrible state compared to literally any other rpg in its genre and any other "monster" battling franchise and it's a shame to be so emotionally attached to such a dissociated franchise. If sword and shield sells mediocre? That isn't enough. The sales of merchandise and media will cover their asses. Don't buy any poke anything until they realize they need to really focus on their game series as a serious game and not just an easy cash cow without any soul left.

How is it that we can hold a first party exclusive to such a lower standard than any other game? Why is Pokémon's bar set to a Bronze standard while everyone else seeks for the Gold? Why aren't they allocating the help needed to really put effort into a game they're supposed to love and care about as much as us?

Does anyone remember that one time when you could almost catch 'em all in one game?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 07:59 AM PST

It's kinda pisses me of when someone keeps repeating that "You never were able to catch even most of them in one game", because its not true.

In Pokemon Platinum the only Pokemons you could not catch were: Gen 1-3 Starters, Mewtwo, Jotho legends, L@tios, Weather Trio and 6 Evo lines that were exclusive to D/P.

Cathing all of them wasn't an easy task - Some of them had small encounter rate, some required Pokerader, some used swarm mechanic, Regis required event Regigigas, and some requierd 3Gen Games in second slot, but with a lot of determination, or help from a friend it was all doable.

After that we got HG/SS where you could acctually catch missing Legends and starters and because games were compatible you could just trade missing few back to the Platinum - Heck you didn't even have to buy another game, you could just use GTS for that.

What's that? - A Pokemon game where we could catch all normal Pokemons (Except Starters and D/P version Exlcusive)? You are telling me that you were able to fit all of them in small DS game region, but you are unable to find them place in that Big Switch game?

    Get out!

Reminder that USUM also had a regional dex with 400 species.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 07:58 AM PST

And it was on the 3DS.

And we could transfer up any older pokemon.

    And it was $40.

Remind yourselves that you're now paying $60 for a game on significantly more powerful hardware that removed over 60% of the pokemon. And it hardly has any worthwhile postgame content.

If the story, new region, or new pokemon are all you care about, you'll probably enjoy it and that's fine. Personally, I know I won't be buying this game. The allure of all the shiny new toys in pokemon games doesn't last long for me.

"Maybe your favorite will be in the next game" has a connotation that people don't seem to talk about:

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 10:55 AM PST

    >Pokemon you like isn't in sword or shield.

    >You wait for the game that does have it.

Keep in mind: there's no guarantee that said favorite Pokemon will be in the next game. Could be the 9th generation, could be remakes of a previous generation on the same hardware, could be 10th and so on.

ALSO, we only know what Pokemon have been excluded from sword and shield due to unintended leaks: it seems evident that GAME FREAK/ TPC (I'm unsure as to who handles this aspect) would happily have you spend £/$60 on a game without letting you know what Pokemon are not included: you just have to hope "maybe they just didn't show [POKEMON HERE] in the lead up to this game".

    >Lets say another gen 8 comes out (it's the diamond and pearl remakes) has the Pokemon you want.

    >Gen 8 doesn't and isn't receiving patches.

    >These game aren't compatible; no trading or battling with the other game.

CONGRATS: Your series is like FIFA and other sports games where the current version is only good for a year and will most likely be worth chump change when you trade it in for the newer one that will last just as long.

The worst part about today's streamed gameplay

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 11:20 AM PST

It's so fucking linear and boring. Hallways upon hallways, with lovely little pit stops every 10 minutes for Hop to tell us how special being on a Pokemon adventure as if the player isn't sure how to feel.

There are no battle backgrounds in so many situations - just voids. Even Let's Go Fellate Kanto got this right.

Gyms are once again a waste of time, a miserable "put the square block in the square hole!" chore that makes you wonder if this is really the same team that designed Unova's gyms.

I'm gonna level with you here - I honestly don't care that much about Dexit. It's the patronizing, corner-cutting shit like this that left a bad taste in my mouth after Gen 7.

Suck my entire ass, Gamefreak, why did you even bother?

    [Spoiler] Restriction to catching Pokemon....wtf

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 11:31 AM PST

Watching the stream, it seems like GameFreak has restricted WHAT LEVEL Pokemon you catch in the wild based on your game progress.

The streamer came across a level 28 Sneasel but wasn't able to try and catch it since it was above level 25.

What the shit is this? Isn't the whole point of running into overleveled Pokemon the high-risk / high-reward factor? It's literally just high-risk if you can't actually catch the Pokemon.

Just check out that image saved by someone from 4chan. If start a battle with someone in a town, you get teleported to a field for the duration of the battle. Interior battles don't even have backgrounds. This is pathetic for a console game, even Alola had backgrounds.

Regardless of whether you think Dexit affects you or not, there are two things I think everyone should be mad about.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 09:41 AM PST

    1) The misleading marketing targeted at children.

    • one example of many: the "new era of pokemon" trailer which if I didn't know better, suggests to me that ALL previous Pokemon could be brought to the newest game (see "lies of omission").

    2) The upcoming "please willingly submit your digital friends to our extortion simulator", or as it is actually called 'Pokemon Home'.

I'm watching a streamer play the game and I honestly have to admit...this looks worse than I could have imagined.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 10:50 AM PST

Even without considering Dexit or the fact that the GTS may have been removed, I've noticed the following -

    • Cut and paste from Sun and Moon for so many things. Sound effects, opposing trainer models, etc. The "upscaled Sun/Moon graphics" argument is definitely looking accurate.

    • Outside of the Wild Area, the routes are the same narrow corridor routes we've seen in Sun/Moon and X/Y. No variation, no choice, just a hallway that you walk down.

    • Animations for all older Pokemon look and sound IDENTICAL to previous generations.

    • Automatic XP share is insane. The streamer is using nothing but their starter and yet the whole team is almost level 20 after a few hours of play. The streamer's team significantly outlevels every single trainer they face, including named antagonists. The games look about as easy as they ever have.

We're all talking about Dexit, and rightfully so, but these games are going to release and people are really going to realize these are 3DS games using the same assets that have been used for years.

I have to admit I'm supremely disappointed by what I'm seeing.

This is What a Community in Mourning Looks Like

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 05:03 AM PST

Oh, you want... to play the game directly? As in... spend time... doing things in the actual game world? You want... to make a little house? And rebattle trainers you already faced? You want to explore new areas and face new challenges even after the game's story is over? You... want to participate in mini games? You want seasons and weather and day-night cycles? And you want your Pokemon to follow you around and your friends to chat with you during trades? You want diverse battle styles and facilities dedicated to diversifying the gameplay experience? You want us... to bring old features... back? And to flesh out NPCs and the world lore? You want challenging puzzles and a rich gameplay experience?

You want us to do everything we did in Pokemon Emerald over a decade ago, to improve on features implemented in the following games and to actually innovate on our cash-chow franchise instead of simply iterate it? Hmm...

How about, instead... we sell you the right to store your Pokemon... with the promise that you might get to use the again one day in another ten years? If you pay the entire time, of course, and we don't shut down the service by then.

I mean, that's good enough, isn't it? We're just a small indie company, after all, even if we own the literal most-profitable media franchise in all of history!

    Please understand...

I originally wrote this as a reply to a thread, but I decided to post it on its own because I think there's benefit to be had in acknowledging what this is.

I'm bitter, but it's because my heart has broken. I've been playing since Red/Blue and like so many of us, I have a literal region of my brain dedicated to Pokemon. This has been a god-awful year in which I've already said goodbye to my 19-year-old dog and had to move home to care for my father as his health declines -- I know well what I think this community is experiencing.

We are in mourning, friends. We are witnessing the slow and undignified demise of something we genuinely loved and wanted the best for, and we are helpless to stop it from happening. Grief is what this is, heartache over the death of something like an old friend. Many people are still in the denial phase, many more are in the anger phase, and even I'm still not fully accepting that it's come to this. But that's what this whole uproar has come to: grief as we try to accept that our dearest fictional companions have been lost to us, and with it a chunk of positive experience that we can't truly get back.

It's possible to grieve for the living and to mourn the loss of what once was. So let yourself grieve, friends. You definitely aren't alone.

I want to say that maybe things will improve down the line -- maybe the terminality of Game Freak's illness will go into remission. But I don't have it in me to be optimistic any longer. So I, too, will grieve. And maybe one day, when the ruins of this franchise are a distant memory salved only by advances in the creation of fangames... we can find peace in the post-Pokemon world.

The game limits what Pokemon you can catch based on what badges you have

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 11:26 AM PST

They beat Milo on stream and got a message saying that you can now catch Pokemon up to level 25. I thought this was weird and that I had misinterpreted it. But no. They tried to catch a level 27 Sneasel and the game physically wouldn't let them. They got a prompt like what get trying to catch the ghost Marowak in Gen 1.

Jesus Christ. I wonder what implications this has for traiding and transferring Pokemon
