The Safari Zone in Red and Blue was such a fascinating place. The limited graphics combined with the step limit really made it feel vast and easy to get lost in. The only thing that I felt was lacking was just how rare so many of the Pokemon were, and then how hard they were to get once you found them. You had between a 1% and 4% chance to encounter Chansey and then it would quite possibly just run away!

Hoenn had a great area to explore with the bike tricks and the Pokeblock feeders were an interesting mechanic (that I didn't really understand when I was little). The Great Marsh had some wonderful character and the binoculars were a fun idea but boy oh boy was walking in the swamp tiring! Lastly, Johto had an amazing variety of terrain but felt quite bland in such limited areas.

I'd love to see a combination of all of the best elements with the Wild Area in the most recent games. There could be a market where you buy bait for certain natures or species of Pokemon. The camping theme fits perfectly. The location preview for the Kanto Safari paints such an amazing picture. There could be sprawling fields that meet a raging river where you have to use your bike or Pokemon to find one of several ways across, a craggy central mountain that's difficult to climb but leads to many otherwise inaccessible secrets. As you acquire new tools, you can discover new areas and shortcuts. There could even be swarms or stampedes where a herd of Nidorino would be charging around following their Nidoking - the only way you could encounter one without needing to find yourself a Moon Stone.

There's heaps of potential and over the weekend I might draw up some concept art for Monday's post along with our friends Tangela, Kangaskhan and Horsea.

What was your favourite Safari Zone and what features would you love to see in a future one?

I designed the wild area when I was 7 years old

I was obsessed with Pokemon Diamond when it first came out back in like 2007. I was digging through my old stuff and found a bunch of Pokemon pictures I drew as a kid. Apparently I designed the wild area 12 years before Pokemon Sword and Shield did.

Whoever designed zamazenta’s movepool needs to be fired immediately

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 02:13 PM PST

He's a fighting type with no physical fighting moves besides close combat via TR. He has high defenses with no stall moves like willow wisp and has no recovery moves besides rest. He has a big ass shield mane that he can use for behemoth bash but not body press or other moves that involve bashing into other Pokémon, but somehow he can use photosynthesis and create a freaking sun laser... he's also a royal shield wolf Pokémon but can't learn king's shield or even spiky shield wtf were they thinking?

Fan Theory: 95% of wild Pokémon are just breedjects released back into the wild by players breeding for shiny/competitive Pokémon

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 12:57 PM PST

Sure, the higher level Pokémon don't add up for this theory. But we can bend some rules.

Here's the fact of the matter: You know there are a lot of people out there breeding for shinies or competitive Pokémon. And they need box space.

So, it kinda makes sense there are so many Pokémon per square foot running around in the wild.

This wouldn't fly IRL, but in Pokémon? Well, where are all the released breed rejects going?

Does anyone else feel sorry for the new fossil Pokemon?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 11:00 AM PST

They all seem to be suffering in one way or another. All of them have mismatched body parts, but Arctozolt is forced to live in constant cold; Actovish can't eat properly because its head is misplaced; And despite being extremely powerful (especially in the metagame), Dracovish apparently has trouble breathing. Dracozolt seems to have the least problems, but its face shows some form of agony. I personally would want to keep them to make their lives at least a little less painful, and to cheer them up from their poor existence.

Also, Cara Liss, who created these abominations in the first place, is one of the most messed up characters I have seen in a Pokemon game. I haven't played Sword and Shield yet, but she does not to seem have a daughter and, say, a Boltund. And good thing too: Can you imagine what she would to to them?

Edit: forgot some words, and removed some redundancy

I feel like an idiot for just now realizing there's no legendary trio in SWSH.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2019 10:16 PM PST

Each time I looked at the dex something felt off, and then it clicked for me.

For the second time ever in pokemon there is no legendary trio.

No legendary Birds, Beasts, Golem, Spirits, ect. And thanks to dexit, there won't be any trios this gen.

GF definitely shot themselves in the foot by having the Swords of Justice introduced in gen 5. I know they're more closely related to the three musketeers, which are french, but they're knights and would have fit in as knights of the round table or something similar. Considering they also released the forces of nature that same gen, probably should have waited.

Sun and Moom at least had the tapus, which felt like a surrogate for the a legendary trio.

I’d love to see Pokémon in a different time period.

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 04:48 AM PST

We've done plenty with fossils, would anyone blink an eye at either a Jurassic park area with ancient looking Pokémon that are a bit scarier/less docile than modern Pokémon? If not a safari zone, then maybe a time machine mechanic. I really don't think it'd be that big of a stretch, and you could have the world change depending on the "era" that you're in.

Maybe older gens of a Pokémon look different to modern, or are just more aggressive or even have different move sets! There's a lot of flexibility, and I think Pokémon could use an Oracle of Ages style game. Not only would it be great for different Pokémon styles, but also there's a lot of story and puzzle elements that can come from time jumping. I know it's never gonna happen, but it's something I haven't heard talked about. If you think this is dumb that's fine, but I'd rather y'all share YOUR aspirations than get negged to hell so by all means share your thoughts! Have a good day everyone! Don't forget to praise our glorious and undefeated champion, Leon!

Honestly this is a feature that I have always wanted but every generation they fail to add it. I feel like this would be an easy add to the game and would make life so much easier. For people who breed Pokémon or attempt a living fed this feature would be a huge time saver.
