One culled Pokémon family every day until Dexit is reversed - Day 32 Posted: 05 Dec 2019 02:17 AM PST Did anyone's parents play or engage with Pokemon? It's my dad's birthday today. I remember when he was in hospital way back in 2000 my brother and I lent him our Gameboy and Blue version so he wouldn't get bored. When we'd visit he'd have a new team of level 100s. Exploring the Cerulean Cave and beating the Elite Four over and over. I'd never seen a Lickitung in-game before and suddenly he had this super powerful one! It was such a silly Pokemon until I saw it in a different light. It just occurred to me there are probably parents introducing their kids to the series now. Please share if you're in that boat too! Posted: 05 Dec 2019 06:16 AM PST BIG UPDATE: IT GOT FIXED, EVERYONE'S RATING IS RESTORED! Thank ye gods! So I saw a tweet from Sejun Park (who as many of you know, is the guy who famously won VGC 14 with a Pachirisu!), and he mentioned something about everyone who reached Master Ball tier getting banned from online play, and having their ratings nuked. To make things even worse, people who are reporting that they just reached master ball tier are noticing that the standings have totally changed. It seems like anyone who reached master ball tier before the matienence got their ratings erased! So I checked this out in a panic hurry, since I reached the top 500 pretty recently in singles (and also the top 1k in doubles, though not as great of an acomplishment there tbh). And... yeah, I get a communication error whenever I try to connect to ranked battles, but my buddies below master ball tier can play just fine. Now before anyone asks: no, I don't have a hacked switch, so this isn't one of those kind of problems. Frankly, I'm fucking pissed. Yes, Sword and Shield are divisive games, and even I wasn't particularly fond of the single player campagin, but I was in it because I've greatly enjoyed Gamefreak's Battle Spot metagames since gen 6. Hell, even despite my bitter reaction to Dexit, I've actually greatly enjoyed the regional dex metagames this time, which was actually making me warm up to the idea of a rotating roster of Pokemon (at least competitively). But jesus christ, here we are having gamefreak just totally fuck up the BIG reason I was excited for this game in the first place. Like, what happened here? Why the hell is this game's online so god damn mangled, its like theres a new problem every week, and this one is particularly shitty because I have no idea if they can salvage our ratings or not. Just what the hell is it with Sword and Shield in general pissing in so many people's cereal? It's like the game constantly finds some way to fuck up specfic Pokemon communities, wether its dexit, the shit show with general trading, the horrible stamp system, divisive single player campagin, medicore graphics, and now fucking with people's ratings. I was generally staying away from the outrage at this game before, but I'm going to join it if there isn't an acceptable solution for this. I've played the game for over 230 hours, pretty much with the sole purpose of laddering in mind, and it might as well be piss in the wind if this shit isn't fixed. [link] [comments] |

Might be an unpopular opinion but I actually really miss the Pokemon Contests from Sapphire/Ruby Posted: 04 Dec 2019 05:30 PM PST Remember those? You could choose Beauty, Cool, Smart, Tough, or Cute contests and perform moves that had various effects and also helped gain points for one of those categories. Idk why but those are still my favorite side activity from any of the games (unless you include the Wild Area which, regardless of how you feel about Gamefreak and Sword/Shield rn, is pretty darn awesome). Would have loved to see a version of that with all the updated graphics and recent gens. Any other cool side activities you wish had made the jump to the more recent games? [link] [comments] |

So I had to draw them I have this marked as spoiler because there's still people who haven't played the game [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Dec 2019 12:26 PM PST Title. It's absolutely disgraceful how in Sword and Shield, there isn't even a single area that matches the complexity of Viridian Forest from RBY. Like, not even any of the end game areas have as many winding paths, or as many off the beat and path walk ways to explore. (And Viridian Forest only has 3.) It's crazy how lazy Game Freak has gotten with the world design, it's been in huge decline since XY and it's only been getting worse. To some who missed the point: Viridian forest is not very complex, yet SWSH fails to surpass it. EDIT 2: To be frank, I should have used Mount Moon as a better example. While Viridian Forest does outclass a vast majority of SWSH, there are some areas that can arguably compete with it. (Which isn't impressive, it's literally babies first Pokemon dungeon) [link] [comments] |

Am I the only one genuinely salty Falinks doesn't evolve? Posted: 04 Dec 2019 08:30 PM PST It looks like a really sick base form, not a solo evolution. It's like qwilfish; feels like a first or at best second evolution in a set of three, but there's nothing. I was so sure when I caught it 'this is gonna be sick mon when it evolves' and nothing. Posted: 05 Dec 2019 07:37 AM PST As most of you know, Sword and Shield became the fastest selling Switch Games ever. They sold over 2 million copies in Japan alone and caused a spike in Switch sales as well. In spite of halving the amount of content and effort that goes into the games, they continue to sell just as well as before. So is there any reason for the game developers to make more of an effort, to include all the pokemon in subsequent games? Or is it time for faithful fans to give up hope and realize the games will never be as good as we deserve? I can canonically explain the terrible draw distance in SwSh... Posted: 05 Dec 2019 12:31 AM PST The reason for the absurdly close draw distance is simple. The Player Character canonically has 20/200 vision so what should normally be seen at 200 ft, the Player Character actually has to be within 20 ft to see the same thing, this is why the Pokemon just pop in out of nowhere. The Player Character is simply legally blind so it's no longer a matter of bad game design but rather just "unique" character traits. [link] [comments] |

Generation 8- Galar Pokemon Design Survey Posted: 05 Dec 2019 07:14 AM PST As the original creator abandoned revealing the results to us, and I have been keen to know what the general consensus is, I have re-created the poll for Generation 8. You can rate all the new Pokemon, Galarian forms, Gigantamax forms and all other forms (besides Cramorant and Alcremie), so obviously spoilers ahead. The results can be seen after you've voted, so no more waiting. I'm not a designer so after the poll has run its course, it'll just be a table most probably to show what the overall order was and the average rating. And of course you can only vote once. Link's below. Heads up that it's split into 6 parts and there are 127 entries. Happy voting! [link] [comments] |

PokéPartner - Google Assistant Application for Type Match-ups Posted: 05 Dec 2019 07:29 AM PST Hey everyone, I recently built a quick Google Assistant application for Pokemon called PokéPartner. Right now, I've only added Type damage calculations, but I plan on adding additional features later. Here's the website. The original goal was to help with Type match-ups when battling in my household but I thought it was useful enough to share with more people. All you need to use this application is Google Assistant in some form (Google Home, Android with Google, etc.) and then just say "Ok, Google... Talk to Poké Partner" There are currently three tasks you can ask of Poke Partner:
The project is also open-source, here's the Github repo. I am currently a full time software engineer and full time student, so I don't have as much time as I would like to add to the application, but I do plan on adding additional features over time. I hope someone finds this useful! Note: Data comes from PokeApi, I don't think they've added the newest generation of Pokemon yet, so if you want to do a type-matchup with one of those, you should use the Weakness by Type commands instead of By Name. Thanks, Travis W. [link] [comments] |
Pokémon showerthought: when you send out Rillaboom, you say “Go, Rillaboom” Gorillaboom. Posted: 05 Dec 2019 11:26 AM PST Does anybody know if this is intentional or not. It's too big of a coincidence not to be. Does this joke still work with Rillabooms name in other languages or is it just something the English localization team thought of? I must know, I HAVE to know, I HAVE TO REACH THE FIFTY WORD LIMIT FOR THIS POST NOT TO BE REMOVED BY THE AUTOMODS!!! Justice for ssj3 grookey. [link] [comments] |

Falinks but they umm... don't skip leg day? Posted: 04 Dec 2019 04:29 PM PST |
Posted: 04 Dec 2019 10:51 PM PST In the Pokémon handbook, it shows the Pokémon's weight and height in both imperial and metric measurement. So I don't know why this isn't in the game. Only America uses feet and pounds, so this makes it much harder for people from the rest of the world that use the metric system. If I want to know the Pokémon's weight or height, I have to convert it from pounds to kilograms and feet to centimetres in Google, which is honestly a pain. The game is even based in Great Britain, where they use the metric system. They've even spelled mom as mum in the game and use British slang like "telly" and "ello". So it would make sense to have the metric system. I've found out that if you get a Pokémon from a non English speaking country in a trade, their Pokédex will have the metric system. And if you get a Pokémon from an English speaking country in a trade, their Pokédex will always be in imperial. I know this isn't a big deal but it would be nice if they had this feature.
