[Rebuild Tuesday] SwSh Meta Predictions: Alcremie!

    Posted: 16 Dec 2019 09:00 PM PST

    Hello everyone!

Welcome to this week's edition of Rebuild Tuesday, a weekly event we're doing along with our Discord!

Since Sword/Shield just recently came out and brought many changes to the metagame, we'll be looking at the newer Pokemon and how they are in the currently developing meta in the next several weeks.

    This week's Pokemon is Alcremie!

    #869 Alcremie (Japanese マホイップ Mawhip)

    Stealth Pokémon

When Alcremie is content, the cream it secretes from its hands becomes sweeter and richer. When it trusts a Trainer, it will treat them to berries it's decorated with cream.

    Alcremie's Base Stats:

    • HP: 65
    • Attack: 60
    • Defense: 75
    • Sp. Attack: 110
    • Sp. Defense: 121
    • Speed: 64

    Smogon Info

    Introduction:

Alcremie was one of the first Gigantamax forms revealed pre-release. It is pure Fairy, and it has the abilities Sweet Veil and Aroma Veil (Hidden Ability). With a great 121 special defense stat and good defensive typing, Alcremie can take some decent hits from special attackers. It also has a respectable special attack stat of its own at 110. It is an amazing doubles support Pokemon, having access to a G-Max move that works similarly to Life Dew, a signature move in Decorate which raises both of the target's attacking stats by two stages, and access to Aromatherapy. Unfortunately, in a Singles Battle environment, Alcremie faces heavy competition from Clefable due to its poor physical bulk and lackluster movepool.

How viable do you trainers think Alcremie is? Is there anything else you think it needs in order to be a good competitive Pokemon (e.g. new moves, stats, abilities or typings)? What is its most optimal set?

In addition to discussing how you feel this Pokémon will be in the new meta, feel free to discuss your likes and dislikes about it, be they from your playthroughs of the main series or side games, your success or failure with this Pokémon competitively, any cool fan artwork (with the source) featuring this Pokémon that you'd like to share, or anything else!

For those who want to see previous Pokémon covered, you can view a list of our Gen 7 rebuilds here and our current SwSh Predictions series here.

We'd also suggest checking out our Discord each Tuesday for live discussion on these topics as well!

Tomorrow, we'll run a poll to see which new Pokémon (or returning Pokémon with significant changes) will be featured next week. If you have suggestions, please PM me (/u/SnowPhoenix9999) today!

This thread is part of /r/pokemon's regular sticky rotation. To see our rotation schedule and all past sticky rotation threads, go here!

In Red, Blue and Yellow only two Pokémon species could learn Tri Attack by level up - Dodrio and Porygon. Crystal added Magneton and Dugtrio. Three of these guys have a very clear theme of "tri" to them, and I could never figure out why Porgyon got this until earlier this year when it suddenly hit me.

When computer software is processing 3D models it can use up a lot of power. To lighten the workload 3D models are made up of triangular meshes, or tris, and Porygon is a 3D Pokemon made of programming code!

I think that's such a neat easter egg for anyone who knows about 3D modelling and it only took me like 20 years to understand!

It's my favourite bit of trivia at the moment but what are yours?
