You can watch the replay of the Pokémon Direct here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5afasEAiN0

A remake of the first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon titles (Red Rescue Team, originally on the Game Boy Advance, and Blue Rescue Team, originally on the Nintendo DS) is being released on the Nintendo Switch on March 6, 2020. A demo is available now, as is a pre-purchase option! (Nintendo.com page, discussion thread)

The Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass will be released as DLC for $29.99 USD. It will be divided into two parts, though it appears you will receive both parts for your respective game. There are a couple of new clothing items (Pikachu shirt and Eevee shirt) available for pre-purchasing.

The first part is titled The Isle of Armor and is scheduled for a release in June 2020, while the second part is titled The Crown Tundra, which is scheduled to be available in Fall 2020. Both are new "seamless maps, much like the Wild Area". This means that these areas will feature things such as a rotatable camera function, for example.

    • Isle of Armor
      • Story has you training as an apprentice at a dojo under a master known as Mustard.
      • Features new rivals: Klara (Poison-Type user) in Sword and Avery (Psychic-type user) in Shield.
      • New legendary: Kubfu (Fighting-type), who evolves into one of two forms of Urshifu: Single-Strike Style (Fighting/Dark-type) or Rapid-Strike Style (Fighting/Water-type)
      • Adds Dynamax versions of Rillaboom, Cinderace, and Intelleon.
      • New character items customization items are also included!
    • The Crown Tundra
      • New legendary: Calyrex (Psychic/Grass type)
      • New Co-Op mode allows you to explore Pokémon dens.
      • Legendaries from past games return with the ability to dynamax!
      • Other new legendaries are included as well, some of which include what appear to be Galarian forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres (the bird trio from Kanto), and additional variants of Hoenn's Regi trio (though it's unknown whether these are Galarian forms or entirely new Pokémon).
      • More character customization items will be added with this DLC as well.

    Other news:

    • With the aforementioned Expansion Pass, 200+ new/returning Pokémon will be added. Even without the DLC, you will be able to download a free update that adds these Pokémon to the game data and then trade for them.
    • Pokémon Home will be released in February 2020.
    • The next set of Gigantimax Pokémon to receive a temporary increased appearance rate are Coalossal, Lapras, Flapple, and Appletun. These will now appear more frequently for an undisclosed period of time.
    • A free update for Pokémon Sword and Shield has been made available. By going to Wedgehurst Station after the update, you will be able to encounter your game's Isle of Armor NPC (Klara or Avery) and start a sidequest to find and catch a Galarian Slowpoke, which can evolve into a Galarian Slowbro using an item from The Isle of Armor or Galarian Slowking using an item from The Crown Tundra.

GameFreak is still years behind the gaming industry and doesn't deserve to be excused for the mess they've created.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 11:16 PM PST

There's no better way of saying this then "All of this should have been in the game to start with."

They released Sword and Shield as a rushed, unfinished AAA that lacked tons of content when compared to games from even the DS-era. The post-game was laughably bad; there was barely anything in it. They have lied multiple times about the reason for cutting the National Dex and we got nothing in the game's to compensate for that.

And now, in classic EA style, they are releasing chunks of the game that should have been included in the base-game as paid DLC... on top of the $60 that the base-game already costs.

Not only that, but these DLC alsof have new Version Exclusives, as if that 'feature' wasn't already bad enough.

Now, the first DLC Comes out in June, meaning they had 8 months to work on it, assuming they didn't start work on the DLC before the base-game came out which would be truly heinous, are people really thinking this will bring in the much needed depth and breadth of content? Especially considering the team working on this will be considerably smaller than it was for the base-game.

The gaming industry has largely moved on from this. Free content updates have become the standard at this point with cash-grab tactics like what's happening now have been condemned by pretty much the entire gaming community. If any other game developer or publisher tried to pull something like this, the internet wouldn't let them get away with it.

But not Pokémon fans, no, for some reason we continue to be fine with mediocre titles and now even paid DLC used to sell us a post-game. Apparently people still see GameFreak as a small Indie developer instead of 33% shareholder of the biggest media franchise in the world.

We need to hold them to the mark, not blindly roll over and accept whatever they lazily pump out.

    Rant over.

Gamebreaking bug in Sword and Shield.

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 01:15 AM PST

As far as I know it has yet to have been documented or discussed on the internet despite being something that is relatively simply achieved and will leave the game stuck in an un-progressable state.

In the main story you have to find three different security guards who hide in Wyndon in order to obtain the key to the monorail to get to Rose Tower. After you find the guards a cutscene plays out in the station where Piers distracts the crowd of people allowing you to obtain the key. The cutscene ends as you enter the outside of Rose Tower.

Now, if you fly away at this point to any other location before you enter Rose Tower, the area becomes in-accessible. I believe that this is because you have to enter Rose Tower in order to make it a location on the monorail menu. It even shows the objective "Search for the bad League staff member hiding around Wyndon Monorail Terminal!" despite having already done so by this stage of the game.

This bug was clearly overlooked by Gamefreak as it is present in the most recent version of the game.

EDIT: Cannot confirm if this bug is present in the update that just released. Will update this post once I know if it has been fixed. I will not know if the fix just prevents you from flying in the first place though.

EDIT 2: Just installed the update and tried to get back to Rose Tower through the various methods that would normally work and it has not been fixed. I'm still stuck with no way of going to Rose Tower.

Here's how Pokémon HOME Transference will work.

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 05:14 AM PST

You can transfer from any game. As ong as you have the right tools in the chart, suc has Pokémon Bank and BW2 for older generations.

When the DLC comes out, we should all choose a couple Pokémon exclusive to it, breed a bunch of them, and send them out over surprise trade.

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 10:21 AM PST

That way, people who didn't get the DLC can get a decent amount of the new Pokémon without having to buy it if they don't want to. What do you guys think? There could be a specific day that we do it (like how everyone surprise traded good stuff on Christmas), like a week after each pack releases.

I just want to say sorry

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 06:51 AM PST

People were speculating over what was going to be revealed in the Direct announcement, like DLC and a Mystery Dungeon game and I was very blatant that these wouldn't happen. I very much believed GF would not do DLC/add Pokémon to the game and told everyone so when these posts came up. So, sorry to those who I scoffed at for being hopeful of these things. I never expected DLC for SwSh and these new packs look amazing. Faith in PKMN games - a tiny bit restored.

Also, I didn't expect a Mystery Dungeon, and that's another kool thing they're doing. I really hope they're amazing games.

I mean I'm happy they're adding new content, but...

    Treat the DLC with caution

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 05:00 AM PST

This maybe an unpopular opinion. I think anyone looking forward to the upcoming DLC should take a step back before they get too excited. Let's not forget how hyped Sword & Shield was before release and how underwhelming they were afterwards to many fans. It might be wise to hold off buying the DLC and read the reviews first before purchasing.

Edit: These are just my two cents. If you enjoy the games then that's great! Don't listen to this old buzzard you're free to use your own money however you see fit.

Unpopular Opinion: This DLC doesn't really feel like cut content imho.

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 10:09 AM PST

So alot of other games would usually have dlc which appears to be something that would be in the game already. Alot of these kinds of DLC's are free for GaaS games mostly cause they are quite purposely released bare bones. Fighting games get alot of shit for this too as some sequels are missing older characters. Some games release endings or post story content. But this feels more like DLC DLC than cut content to me.

I just can't see where this kind of stuff would even fit into the main game when comparing it to other first entry games. I can only compare that kind of post game to 3rd games which are already quite obviously definitive editions without the option to buy DLC. Isle of armor already looks like more content than the USUM additions and it's half the price of USUM (probably $15 but how dlc works at times, probably $20 so you buy the pass). The 200 pokemon are free with transfers as well. Some are saying you still have to buy home and NSO but even if there was a national dex, it's the same situation. And I don't feel like the game needed 600+ pokemon in the regional dex. I don't even think a game passed 500. Maybe USUM but idk. With the way it is, it's more equivalent to having some of the dex for people who don't buy the DLC.

One of the big reasons why it doesn't feel like cut content to me is the nature of it. It feels like a side story content which is what DLC normal is and should be. Especially for single player games. One big point to me is the seamless worlds of how everywhere is a wild area probably besides indoors of course. This tells me that it was clearly being developed after the main events instead of cancelled concepts. I feel like the wild area is the last thing they created which is why the textures and things look unfinished and this is the kind of environments we will see in the future of the series.

The only thing I would say should have been there at launch is probably the gmax starters but not even kalos starters got megas which is honestly pathetic imo just so the kanto starters could show them up. Everything else looks like something you would expect in a 3rd entry game but alot more like the move tutors (which is said to have new moves [this should actually honestly be free]), more pokemon, new areas and legendaries etc.

I guess we will just have to wait for the launch to judge correctly. I would love to hear your opinions but please don't try to convince be a $60 3rd game would have been better just cause you waited. They will just make a definitive edition like every other game does with the launch of their last dlc pack.

I'm glad that Diamond and Pearl remakes were not announced and here's why.

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 09:45 AM PST

It seems that a lot of people that claim that Sword and Shield were rushed also want Diamond and Pearl remakes as soon as possible. I think D/P remakes would be great, but I also think GF should spend more time on them. I loved Sword and Shield, but it's clear time constraints, among other things are to blame for the lack of content. If GF were to develop D/P remakes and release them by the end of the year, that would mean that many features may have to be cut. I don't want that, no one wants that. I want the D/P remakes to be love letters to the originals, not wattered down versions.

I'd rather have DLC than "Ultra Sword and Shield"

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 12:18 PM PST

Don't get me wrong, me and my friend from school are sick of GameFreak's ways. Both of us felt empty after Sword/Shield, even though we were so hyped up about it. It didn't succeed our low expectations.

Now that the DLC is announced it feels like a whole new game. Sure its £26.99, not cheap for DLC. But with myself on such a tight budget it is the perfect content filler for the rest of my 2020.

I can't afford to buy a £40-60 Switch game this year. It takes me about 6 months per game. If Ultra Sword and Shield came out then I'd be up to £50 in debt with a game I don't want to replay. I'd rather keep my current Galar team and go on a new adventure.

It is SO much better than a new game release. Sure I was so shocked by it but I'm quite looking forward to it. New Pokemon, new characters and new customisation is what I'm looking for the most.

If we had this earlier then it would have been amazing. Would have been a whole 10/10 game for me. But having it late is better than never! My new years resolution is to save up and now I've got to do it.

My favourite Pokemon Rockruff and Lycanroc are in the DLC and I am so looking forward to it! I'm so excited to do something new. Even my critical friend is excited.
