An Idea for How to Vastly Expand Post-Game Content Posted: 14 Jun 2020 05:37 AM PDT There is a very simple way imo to be able to expand post-game content. BE. THE. CHAMPION.In the games, after you become Champion, nothing really happens. You go back to normal. You challenge the Elite Four again, and face the Champion again. Nothing changes. Instead, now that you've become the Champion, you get to BE the Champion. You can change the Elite Four's Pokemon and spar against them. As you go through the games, cities and towns that don't have gyms will have a hall that when you try to enter will be blocked by an NPC (bodyguard I guess?) saying that "oh, somebody's rented it out right now" or something like that. You can turn these into gyms as the Champion. You can change which cities have the gyms, you can change the types, Pokemon, etc. etc. The only caveat here is that you may have to get rid of the puzzles. Either that or you can have templates for the puzzles (one for each type?) that become the gym design. You can even talk to the Professor who gives you tasks of "rare Pokemon sightings" which can be legendary Pokemon (because for the love of God legendaries should be kept out of the game until after the story is complete). Occasionally you're even challenged by someone who's beat the Elite Four. This can be completely new characters (e.g. some side character you encountered), your rival, or even an old character (N, Red, Blue, Green?, May, Wally, Nate, etc.) come from a different region. Also, you can exit through the Hall of Fame into the "Pokemon Village" where there's a bunch of Pokemon celebrities (Red, Blue, the Professors, etc.). You can get the shiny charm here as a hidden item (NOT for completing the dex), and a day care called "Masuda Care" where shiny rates are doubled. You can add a few other quality of life changes if you want to. I would recommend a TM shop with every TM, Mega Stone, etc. (If Megas ever return). Yeah that's it, please tell me what you think! EDIT: There is an online concept that I forgot to mention that multiple people have mentioned thinking I forgot. Here it is:- Players may submit their 8 gyms and Elite Four as their "League Challenge". Other players can challenge these gyms and league, and if they manage to beat all the gym leaders and elite four, they can face off against the Champion in a Wi-Fi battle. Players will have a record of how many Challenges they've completed, and if they have a Challenge of their own, how many they've defended/lost. Also, wow, 97% upvoted? 200 upvotes? Best I've ever had! EDIT 2: My first ever awards! My karma literally tripled. Thank you so much you lot! EDIT 3: ALRIGHT. I'm starting work on a game which will use this concept. [link] [comments] |
Nintendo should make Virtual Console ports of all past pokemon games to the switch. Posted: 13 Jun 2020 10:05 PM PDT Really self explanatory title. I don't understand why Nintendo wouldn't think of the decision to essentially port every previous installment to the Switch in the same way they had with gen 1 and 2 on the 3DS. It would be stupid lucrative on their end and it would also make the playerbase extremely happy to be able to play the games and transfer their teams forward into gen 8 and beyond. Gyms and E4 moving forward would be more interesting if they were Themed instead of Type-based Posted: 14 Jun 2020 07:17 AM PDT I.e. a warrior who uses Pokémon with blade-like appendages, a farmer who uses a farm animal-theme, archeologist & dinosaurs, a dog breeder using dog pokemon, Dwight Schrute using bears, etc. A mix of types for each gym would make the battles more interesting and a theme would give the leaders more character and depth. This would also allow Gyms to have a more consistent difficulty and become harder to steam-roll. Now that we have 8 generations worth of Pokémon to design themes around it'd be much more feasible. Finished My Pokemon Game Collection Posted: 13 Jun 2020 09:28 PM PDT Over the past few months I've been tracking down a nice, working copy of each of the mainline Pokémon games. Along the way I put together a travel case to protect and display the collection. Here are some pictures of the result: All of the games are authentic. I spent a lot of time watching YouTube videos and reading old threads about how to spot fake carts. Pretty much all of them were acquired off of eBay, with the exception of Black (a gift from a friend), and Yellow (my childhood copy). The only fake I saw in the whole process was a copy of SoulSilver, but I was able to get a refund. Each of the carts from the first two generations have working batteries. Honestly, the fact that my old copy of Yellow is still trucking is kind of amazing. For third gen, Ruby and Sapphire are dry, but Emerald had a fresh battery so I'll have access to the timed events. I originally found the outer plastic case on some industrial website, but was unable to place an individual order. Fortunately, Amazon carried the brand, and I was able to order it here. (It goes in and out of availability) I got the individual game cases off of eBay. The original Game Boy cases were a little tricky. A lot of the postings you find are for newly made cases without the Nintendo branding. It's hard to tell from the pictures in the postings because they look almost identical to the original cases that Nintendo manufactured. Unfortunately, the plastic is slightly less transparent, and so they don't work quite as well for display purposes. Each of the individual cases has velcro backing, so the games are easy to remove and replace when I'm finished playing. [link] [comments] |
I like <Unpopular Gen/Unpopular Pokemon> Posted: 14 Jun 2020 01:51 AM PDT I really like <Unpopular Gen/Unpopular Pokemon>. I don't get how so many people hate it. It literally has such amazing <generic trait 1> and it seems most people cannot understand it. I don't care about others, but for me, <Unpopular Gen/Unpopular Pokemon> will always be my favourite. <Unpopular Gen/Unpopular Pokemon> has so much potential and people fail to see it. I am sure they are the same people who believe in <Old Gen/Old Pokemon> supremacy. Anyways, I just wanted to show some appreciation for <Unpopular Gen/Unpopular Pokemon>. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jun 2020 07:59 AM PDT The sheer amount of detail on this pokemon is insane! It took me over a week to draw, but in the end it was worth it. Thoughts? (Here's the link:) Also, if the link doesn't work, tell me and I will try to fix it. [link] [comments] |
Its taken over a decade for me to understand this pun... Posted: 14 Jun 2020 12:10 AM PDT I'm watching Pokemon season 1 episode 40, where Ash, Misty, and Brock meet Melvin the magician at a carnival. Melvin is performing tricks for the trio when he says alakazam, and that's when it hits me: Abra and its evolved forms are taken from the magician's phrase Abrakadabra Alakazam. I don't know how I didn't realize this before... [link] [comments] |
Which is the DUMBEST idea for Gen 9? Posted: 14 Jun 2020 05:21 AM PDT |
Finally a not so childish Pokemon show Posted: 14 Jun 2020 02:51 AM PDT I've been watching Pokemon Journeys and finally it feels like something I can watch as an adult. The previous Pokemon shows were to childish especially the Team Rocket part in every episode was really lame. Finally something to fill my Pokemon cravings. I always had this issue with older Pokemon shows that the overall story was good so were the battles but the pacing and episodic story sometimes was lame. I've watched 3 episodes of Journeys and I can say it's meant to cater to a more mature audience. Don't get me wrong. It's still innocent and childish but less so than before. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 14 Jun 2020 12:17 PM PDT I was recently doing a Pokémon X playthrough and noted that almost every Kalos swampy area are filed with rushed gravestones and populated with Ghost-type Pokémon. Kalos Route 14 and 19 illustrates it. Is there anything indicating why these locations look like flooded cemiteries? Is this somehow related with the ancient War? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jun 2020 10:32 AM PDT Just remember that goodra is the friendliest of all dragon pokemon, is shaped like a friend, and likes to hug its trainer, covering him/her with slime. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Jun 2020 09:43 AM PDT So, I was going to start this as a joke about how there should have been a region north of Hoenn, thus the title, but it turns out Hoenn and Sinnoh are just as much island nations as Alola and Galar. Still, that does least the fact that there's a whole continent east and south of Kalos and north, east, and west of Unova, according to their maps. Just seems a little odd that we never received a two-region game since Gen II. Feels like it would be a lot easier to make German- and Greek-inspired regions with Kalos as a postgame than it would be to keep making completely new territories all the time. However, that leaves the question of what regions connected to Unova would be like. It was an attempt to redo Kanto, after all. Should it still be US-related or inspired by other part of the world? What do you think? [link] [comments] |
I did an experiment just to see how easy X/Y is with the Exp. Share Posted: 13 Jun 2020 04:21 PM PDT So I found a used copy of Pokémon Y at my local GameStop for like $15. The guy that used to have the game was a dude named Alex, he had beaten Viola but nothing else. A little known fact about Kalos, you can find the elemental monkeys in the Santalune Forest. So I released all of the Pokémon Alex had caught in favor of catching them and doing a play through with them. Here's what I have to report

The Rhydon Giovanni Connection Posted: 14 Jun 2020 07:03 AM PDT I was recently completing a run of Pokemon Yellow when I realized an interesting connection between Giovanni and his final Pokemon as a gym leader, Rhydon. "Don" in rhydon refers to a lord/master, or also the leader of an organized crime family. Sound familiar? Since Giovanni is the boss of team rocket, it would make sense to call him Don Giovanni. In addition to that, "Don Giovanni" is also the name of a famous opera by Mozart. Hope you enjoyed this random fun fact! [link] [comments] |
For the diamond and pearl remake Posted: 14 Jun 2020 11:26 AM PDT I hope for the diamond and pearl remakes that r supposed to be coming that they make it more like sword and shield wild Pokémon encounters rather than let's go. I had a lot fun with let's go, but what I was disappointed with was that u weren't able to battle wild Pokémon, that was one of my fav things about the originals u have a party then u battle wild Pokémon to level them up then go and take on the gym u were going to. I just feel that, that is one of the reasons that I couldn't put as many hours into the game as I did the originals and firered. I want to know what u guys think about this and what u would want in the diamond and pearl remake? [link] [comments] |

Gen Five? Excellent. Gen 2? Still good, but my least favourite. Posted: 14 Jun 2020 09:11 AM PDT I joined at gen 5, but honestly I think gen 2 is worst. Gen 2 has the most unoriginal postgame, but I guess it's cool going back to Kanto. And my experience hasn't been the best. I lost hours with Whitney, I spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME getting stuck in DARK CAVES, and Clair. Sure, Pokemon do follow you in the remakes, but I think the remakes only have that and the Pokemon like Yamega and Gallade to give. B2W2 had more postgame (they my favourite games), even if it's mostly just BW. And we've got N, Hugh, and Colress. Team Plasma, The most built on evil team, is lived by too many. I just don't like the Elite four members/ The gym leaders being recycled. (BTW GEN 2 IS GOOD I JUST DON'T LIKE IT, HAVE ONLY PLAYED GSC WILL BUY HG IN FUTURE [I'M A COLLECTOR]) [link] [comments] |
