If you think about it, it's probably the fanbase's fault the games turned out the way they are now.

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 11:37 PM PDT

Think about it, back when Pokemon Black and White came out, GameFreak put in a ton of effort into making sure the games felt fresh and new and they put their all into it, and yet the fanbase complained that there weren't any old Pokemon to catch until post-game. And even when BW2 fixed a lot of stuff, Gen 5 as a whole didn't sell well, so it was even less reason for GameFreak to attempt anything like it again.

Now here we are, 10 years later and BW are considered the best games in the series by many and everyone wants GameFreak to make games like them again. Can't win can ya? We've blatantly given GameFreak the wrong kinds of messages about what we want. Back then we complained because they tried being fresh, now we're complaining about them not being fresh enough and just churning the games out. It's basically like the Sonic fanbase; they don't know what they want in a Sonic game anymore.

    Isle of armor dex loophole

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 05:22 AM PDT

As you may already know, Pokemon you transfer won't be registered in the isle of armor dex, you have to actually catch them in the dlc to register them

If you place a transferred Pokemon in the daycare and then take it straight back out again it will register in the dlc dex right away

    Hopefully this helps some people

Did anyone else feel exciting seeing their children catch their first pokemon?

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 10:38 AM PDT

My 4 year old daughter caught her first pokemon! A lvl 60 rockruff and we were both very excited shouting 1,2,3 YEAH. Now she wants to catch them all, her words not mine. Just wondering how many people have similar stories on either side of the story. It was very cute and I plan to keep that pokemon forever if I can.

Klara is My Favorite Rival in a Long Time

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 05:42 PM PDT

This might sound strange, especially considering how the DLC ends in the blink of an eye. She's only relevant for five seconds - but that's exactly it.

For those five seconds, she felt like a real rival. Hop, Marnie, Hau, and the Gen VI rivals were all fun characters, but none of them felt like they actually wanted to beat you. Most of them want to have a quick battle and maybe win, which is fun, but there's nothing intense or exciting about that. They're far more like good competitive friends than real rivals. I couldn't even take Hop seriously until his final battle.

Klara, on the other hand, really took me by surprise. She really wants to beat you down! And her language, animations, and gestures all communicate that. She's a star trainer who's so good that she's gotten lazy. So she's understandably upset when some nobody (or the Galar Champion in my case, but I guess she doesn't watch TV) who is supposed to be a new, humble student beats her.

And that infuriates her. She even goes so far as to try to trick you, and when that doesn't work she intimidates you. A rival actually threatening you! Imagine that! You might even so so far as to say she even feels insecure because of you, which drives her even further. At the same time, she's no villain, but she's no all-good-vibes Hau either. Perhaps it's because she's older than you that she's not afraid to lie to or intimidate you, and then smile while secretly hoping you get lost and never come back...

However, The moment that really sealed the deal for me was the final battle, when she cheats and lays toxic spikes before it begins. It's such a small, petty thing. But it shows she really wanted to win by any means necessary - and after generation after generation of rivals who don't really feel like they're thoroughly trying to beat you, I really came to respect her for that. She saw she was getting pushed into a corner and genuinely did everything she could.

Granted, the battle ended pretty quickly. But my point is, her character is amazing by Pokemon rival standards. She's a competitive, determined rival with a real (though brief) story arc. Her goal is to absolutely crush you, even if it means resorting to underhanded methods. But she's not a terrible, toxic person. You can tell she cares about her Pokemon. She'll even apologize to them mid-battle if things go wrong. And later on, she even apologizes to you.

While Klara's story was short and sweet, it just makes me wonder how exciting a game would be if your main rival was that determined all the way through. She has a dream, and you're getting in the way of that. She's a star trainer, and you defeated her. She doesn't just smile, wave it away, and say "Oh well, maybe next time, it's okay because we had fun!" No. By defeating her, you took away her pride and threatened her dream, and she won't take that lying down.

As a final note, in most Pokemon games, the professor or whoever guides you will say that you and your rival will push each other to grow together. But it rarely feels like that's true. You defeat Hop. He vanishes, suddenly reappears with stronger Pokemon, and vanishes again. Despite what he says, it doesn't feel like I had anything to do with him magically getting stronger. But Klara's already strong. You lead her to regain her former strength, and even go above and beyond, just to defeat you. At every turn, you get to see how you directly push her further, and that developments gives your rivalry meaning.

Whatever it is, I really enjoyed being rivals with Klara. I haven't enjoyed a rival that much since N, or even May. If Klara was Sword's rival instead of Hop, and if they extended her character arc longer to fit that, it probably would've been a fun experience - like being rivals with Jesse from Team Rocket. Though it was short and brief, Klara's rivalry was a refreshingly determined and memorable one.

What Pokémon look better in 3D?

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 06:34 AM PDT

I've seen a lot of posts venting about how the jump to 3D ended up hurting a lot of older gen Pokémon designs, and I can definitely see where these people are coming from (I too miss Typhlosion's flames). That being said, while playing the dlc, I caught a Druddigon and couldn't believe how much better it looked! I hated Druddigon's design in BW, but now I'm replaying SwSh with Druddigon on my team because I actually like it now.

So, have you found any new favorites thanks to the jump to 3D?

I have created a poll to see what everyone’s favorite Pokémon is

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 10:14 AM PDT

This poll is purely for fun.

It will record which game got you into Pokémon (mainline games only), which generation is your favorite and least favorite, and what is favorite and least favorite aspect of each generation.

If I get enough responses I'll post the results here later!

Look forward to getting your responses!

    Pokemon Hot Takes. Go.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 09:12 AM PDT

    I'll start.

-X&Y are some of my favorites in the series. The only thing I cant defend about those games is the difficulty

-I'd possibly be more hyped about Pokemon Z than gen 4 remakes

-There are no hard Pokemon games, some are just (way) easier than others (looking at you, Lets Go)

-The Gamecube Pokemon games aren't as special as everyone says they are

    • Firered & Leafgreens music is pretty disgusting

-Aside from Pikachu, Game Freak should stop milking ANY Pokemon. Not just Pokemon like Charizard, Lucario and Greninja.

-I'd rather play ORAS than RSE nowadays

-Swsh's graphics are like the least important issue with the game. (This goes for any game imo)

    -Pokemon Home >>>> Pokemon Bank

-Gen 4 and 5 are amazing, sure, but they are not THAT much better than other gens

    Wait People Don't Like XY?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 08:46 PM PDT

As a die hard Gen 5 fan, I'm tired of "Muh BW's so underrated" like that was years ago, get over it. But I'm now noticing a seemingly strong dislike of XY. I mean sure, the Pokémon selection in Kalos is pretty bad, but whats wrong with it otherwise? Like I respect your opinions, but I would really like to know.

Pokemon 2019 25 - A Battle Festival Exploding With Life! VS Mega Lucario!! Episode Discussion!

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 03:14 AM PDT

Every now and then I think I'm one of the only people who like nice rivals in Pokemon.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 02:53 AM PDT

I see a lot of people complain about the gen 4 on rivals {especially the 3D core game ones} but like... I prefer the friendly, kind ones who seem to understand that ending isn't the end of tbe world or a sign of weakness or whatever. I prefer the ones that, like you, understand the importance of positive bonds and being kind and good, as that's one of the core messages of Pokemon. I grew to like Silver because I learned more about him and his past, but to this day I don't like Blue/Green {game rival of Kanto} in his rival role. Even in the anime I disliked to hated the rivals that were mean. It just feel counter productive to its message to me, especially when you already have a villain team who are misusing Pokemon and being jerks. Our rival doesn't have to also be a jerk.

Your rival cheating in your battles against them is a really cool idea and I want more of it

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 12:18 PM PDT

Klara is my favourite rival in the series and one of the reasons is because she cheats at one point in the story, I really want to see this idea come back in gen 9 with the main rival because it could add really fun gimmicks to the battles to make them more memorable. I'd love to hear other people's ideas for ways your rivals can cheat so please tell me your ideas.

I honestly really like the gen 5/Unova starters.

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 08:42 PM PDT

If you've been a Pokemon fan for any amount of time, it's quite obvious that the gen 5/Unova starters are the most unpopular batch of starters, with the exception of maybe the most recent gen 8/Galar starters.

And the worst part about it, I totally get why they're unpopular too. Emboar was yet another Fire/Fighting type, and Samurott's and Serperior's mono typings didn't impress anyone either. Then in terms of design Samurott looks nothing like Dewott, Emboar is bipedal and considered ugly by most, and Serperior loses its arms/legs which a lot of people find unlikable.

    And I kind of agree.

However, I actually really like Emboar's design. Sure, it's a bit ugly, but pigs are ugly animals. Some people complain about it being bipedal, but I feel that anything quadruped would just look like a bigger Tepig. The only real problem is its typing, which has been repeated 3 times in a row. Something like Fire/Ground would've been much better, and made a lot more sense.

Samurott may look almost nothing like Dewott, but I feel as if anything else would've just been a bigger Dewott, and therefore just boring. The only problem is I think Samurott should stand up more, as it looks a tad goofy on all fours. That, and Water/Fighting would've been a better typing.

Serperior may lose its arms and legs, but it's a snake, so guess what, that's kind of the point. And besides, it actually does have little hands behind its back. I feel like mono Grass is just fine for it as it doesn't really look like another type, but Grass/Electric if I had to pick.

And as a whole, I just really like all of their designs. I think that Samurott looks really cool with its spiral seashell helmet and swords, that Serperior is really beautiful, and that Emboar looks really tough and has one of the best Shinies in the game.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 07:45 AM PDT

But, I got a voucher from filling out a survey (tell us how we did one of those things) so I decided to buy Shield, paying the rest.

I know its not much but I'm so excited to finally be able to play it!

One Gmax, One Z-Move, and One Mega.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 06:53 AM PDT

Some months back I played a game with my friends and I wanted to see how a community of players might take the idea. One Gmax, One Z-Move, and One Mega. The idea is fairly straightforward if you had to give a pokemon a gmax, z-move or mega which one would it be? Try to come up with one pokemon for each and don't give one pokemon anymore then one of the three things. To follow up what might the Gmax move be? What might the Z-move do? What base stats would change for the mega?

For example: Gmax Stunfisk, Max Stunning: paralyzes all opponents and drops the speed stat by 1.

Z- move Malamar, Complete Control: deals high psychic damage and confuses the opponent

Mega Dhelmise: Higher Attack and Speed.

A cool way PokemonSnap could work.

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 09:04 AM PDT

    So how about this?

You get the VR headset with the game.

You're instructed to use it and put the joycons on the controller piece given to you with the switch. This will be your "camera in game."

The game works like the first. You're on a slow moving track, but this time with VR, you can look around freely in your seat of choice and bring the controller towards your face to take the picture. There are zoom functions, night vision, infrared, ect.

I'm thinking how could they not do this?

An Awesome Idea for a Game w/ a theory

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 10:33 AM PDT

Hello awesome people of Reddit. I was on YouTube and saw a "leak" (rumor) about Golden Past and Silver Future. The video is by Ruffled Rowlet so I suggest checking it out. So basically the rumor said time travel was involved. That's cool and all but I had my own idea on this.

What if you started up these new Johto games and it played the same. You get starter, beat gym 1 and 2, but when you get to the ilex forest Celebi takes you back in time. In the past times the cities aren't as developed. Goldenrod isn't as big, Olivine city isn't as big, etc. I was also thinking there could be a new place called the Dragon's valley, where you can find tons of dragon types. (If confused why there are dragons in the past but not present, see theory below). In this time you would use the Pokeball's that were shown being used by Professor Oak. I also thought what if you got to witness the burning of the tower and the creation of Entei, Raikou, Suicune. It would be cool to see something like this that has been talked about in the PKMN community for so long. The story would basically complete a bunch of quest for the chance to re-encounter Celebi to take you back to MC's original time. While in the past there is a new team that is hunting Celebi. You are to stop them before they ... actually I don't know what their goal is but if y'all have an idea I'd love to hear it. In the past some Pokémon look different than their present day form. So instead of a regional variant you get past variants. After completing the story you go back to the present. The credits could show Celebi transporting you to the present. There would be two post game episodes. The first would be where you finish collecting gym badges then become the champ. After becoming Champ you can catch Celebi and go back in time at will but only in the ilex forest. However the next time you go back to the past young Oak will be there in the forest. He heard stories about the forest and wanted to check them out. The second would be a Kanto post game in the present.

    Theory:

Dragons in Kanto are non-existent because the region gets so developed that dragons can't live there. I know I said Kanto but this also applies to Johto because they are right by each other and also has been developing. This theory goes along with why Alolan Executor may be the original. This also explains why there are only two dragon evolutions between the two regions.

The idea of these games are that it breaks away from the standard beat 8 gyms, Elite 4 and Champ to become the champ. In these games your main motivation is to return to the present. The tasks are what summon Celebi to ilex forest. There will be 8 tasks so maybe it's like gym badges but not.

Thank you all for reading and have a good day!

So how are you actually supposed to do Max Raid Battles with people?

    Posted: 21 Jun 2020 12:06 PM PDT

I've been trying to do online max raid battles since IoA was released. Literally no one ever joins when I host my own raid and every single time I try to join one I get one of a few error messages. I reload the stamps, go to the newest open raid and try to join and error message. I go to any other open raid and error message. Its impossible to join a damn raid. And then on the other hand if I host a raid I'll sit there until the time runs out without anyone joining multiple times. I have yet to be able to do a raid since this DLC was released. I'm getting beaten in most raids because the AI is the worst I've ever seen. I'll go in with a level 100 pokemon and start dishing out super effective moves and get beaten still because all my team members die quick as shit.

TLDR: Raids are impossible because you can't join them, you can't invite them, and the AI is worthless.

Can people please stop trying to trade their common Pokemon for Legendary and rare Pokemon?

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 05:11 PM PDT

Seriously, I search the GTS in Home (excluding mythicals) but there is a whole page of people trying to trade their Ponyta for something like Poipole, Tapu, Naganadel, etc. Don't even get me started on the amount of Kaibfus that I've seen people ask for.

Some of us are just trying to complete their Pokedex.

Also, I wish there was a way to search by what Pokemon people are asking for.
