[Theme Talk] Your ideal Pokemon mobile game! Posted: 23 Jun 2020 09:00 PM PDT This is an /r/pokemon themed topic thread—look for new theme discussions on the sub every Wednesday! Check out Opinion Wednesday on the /r/pokemon Discord Server to talk in real time! Topic: Your ideal Pokemon mobile game! With the release of Pokemon Cafe Mix, The Pokemon Company has now added a new style of spinoff to its collection of games accessible on mobile. This game features swiping and connection mechanics, similar to Disney Tsum Tsum. Pokemon's mobile game lineup includes games such as Cafe Mix and Shuffle, which follow the more traditional mobile game formulas, but also features games such as Masters, Magikarp Jump, and Rumble Rush, which are unique twists on the mobile game genre that provide unique game experiences. If you could create a Pokemon mobile game, what would you make? Would you create a mobile-friendly emulator of your favorite gen? A collection-based game that focuses on trading to get the best Pokemon? A Unova-themed tower defense game? Let us know! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:11 AM PDT I was too optimistic. We got some random strategic game nobody wants... I just watched the dislikes go from 314 to 9 thousand, or even more, in minutes. They could've announced this with everything else, but they hyped us up. You do a completely different presentation, you expect more than a free to play Pokemon game nobody wants. I give up. TPC clearly has no clue what the fans want, and I give up. You win TPC. I won't be as optimistic next time. Edit: For those who haven't seen my comment, I've corrected myself, GameFreak are just the developers, you shouldn't be disappointed with them, I apologise for my mistake. Edit 2: People keep saying I shouldn't have gotten hyped over a game that wasn't even promised, I agree, I shouldn't have, but I expected more. They told us they had a big new project, that they could've presented last week, but they chose to tell us about it, and present it a week later, to get to us to be hyped. It's not that I'm disappointed that it's not gen 4, I'm disappointed that they have such a disconnect with their fans to think a free to play game most people will play for 20 minutes, deserved a completely different presentation, which resulted in us being hyped up. Pokémon is starting to get really disconnected with their fans Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:14 AM PDT I hate to say it. Today's announcement wasn't bad or anything but I feel like this is going end up being another one of their free to play games that ends up with shut down servers from lack of interest. Their so desperate in finding the next Pokémon go they just slap their Franchise on anything. I think it's really starting to hurt their brand. [link] [comments] |
Today proves how out of touch Pokémon company are. Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:17 AM PDT I completely blame them for the incoming backlash. They dedicated an entire Pokémon presents to a shitty mobile game that no one asked for. And on top of that, made us wait a week, allowing fans imaginations to go wild. I have defended Pokémon over and over again. But this time there is absolutely nothing to defend. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:14 AM PDT Nobody asked for this. Pokemon unite.... really? Free to play, so it'll be full of micro transactions.... a separate presentation for this, knowing that Pokémon fans would be expecting something huge. I feel so let down. It doesn't even look enjoyable. So much lag! Urgggg I don't know what else to say... [link] [comments] |

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:18 AM PDT I mean, Pokémon Unite looks kind of cool, but it's just not what anyone wanted. They said it was going to be a big announcement so I thought it would be a main series game, hopefully Sinnoh remakes, but of course that's not what we got. I might try it out but it doesn't seem too promising. Also, taking out type advantages? That's like, half the strategy of Pokémon! Edit: Ok, I don't hate Pokémon Unite! I honestly shouldn't have gotten my hopes up in the first place. It seems like a pretty cool game that I might try out. I still want Sinnoh remakes, though. [link] [comments] |
I'm not mad because of what we didn't get, or because it's a MOBA. I'm mad because... Posted: 24 Jun 2020 07:32 AM PDT Tencent is responsible for censorship across China'a internet. They're party to human rights violations and now they want our money. That's utterly disgusting and we should all be repulsed. This is a serious matter that affects over a billion people and should be seen as such. And dismissing this as "lol gen 4 fans" is absolutely ruinous to how serious this is. We need to tell TPCI that partnering with a human rights violator crosses a very real line. This isn't about video games any more. [link] [comments] |
The new Pokemon game to be announced is likely to be the mobile game being developed by Tencent Posted: 24 Jun 2020 02:50 AM PDT Tencent will be streaming the Pokemon Presents tonight on their video website. Link: http://v.qq.com/live/p/topic/90818/preview.html. This probably implies that the new game, or at least one of the new games if multiple games will be announced, is the mobile game that Tencent has been developing. [link] [comments] |
It was really scummy how they had an opening movie styled like main game announcements Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:41 AM PDT Title. Usually for main series announcements they have this opening trailer that showcases Pokemon through the generations, leading up to the reveal of the new games. The way they put Unite after one of these, and how they prided it as their "next big project," makes it sound like this is supposed to be on par with the level of main series games. Ugh. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:13 AM PDT Did anybody ask for this? Does anybody truly want this? I was hearing everybody talk about how this announcement would hopefully be Sinnoh remakes, or even some wanted Let's Go Johto, even a few hoping for a new main series game. I don't recall anybody saying hey, I want a team battle Pokémon game. Don't get me wrong, I can come around to the idea on Pokémon Unite but I just don't know why Pokémon went there. Everything the fans were saying told them not to, yet they still did. What does everybody else think about it? Edit: I guess I was wrong, it is not GF. Fixed that to just Pokémon. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:31 AM PDT All my friends there will love this game as they are big fans of the ideals Pokemon has preached to children for the past 20 years, like friendship, freedom, and standing up for what's right!! Pokemon has always held such a special spot in the hearts of fans world wide, so it's so great to finally see them take initiative like this and are an experience for the entire world [link] [comments] |
My issue with the direct isn't what game was revealed Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:42 AM PDT It's who's making it. For those of you unaware, the game's funded by Tencent, a company infamous for stealing and rehashing games. But the true problem with them is that they are developing spyware for China. Heck, they basically run China. With the brand recognizability of Pokemon, this game will only help them get stronger. Once this game comes out, don't play it. Don't even talk about it. Just pretend it doesn't exist. That's the best way to hurt their sales. [link] [comments] |
They should have switched Unite and Snap Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:23 AM PDT I think if the new Snap had its own direct people would have been much less disappointed by what we just got. I mean Unite looks good and I plan on getting it, but it has nothing on the hype of a new Snap game and would have fit right in with last week's direct. If I had to guess, I'd say they did it this way because Snap seems quite early in development and there might bot be enough for a whole direct, whereas Unite has a lot more to show off right now. [link] [comments] |
ingame purchases available - Pokemon Unite Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:10 AM PDT |
Pokémon Unite is this year's Diablo Immortal. Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:22 AM PDT At the time of this writing, both the trailer and the livestream has more dislikes than likes. It is all too familiar with what happened during the announcement of Diablo Immortal where longtime fans of an established series got bait and switched into a tencent made mobile game. While Immortal forced Blizzard's hand into confirming Diablo IV, will backlash from Unite be enough to cause an early announcement of a main series game? [link] [comments] |
Min Min, but she’s a Pokémon fan [OC] Posted: 23 Jun 2020 03:56 PM PDT |
Remember, Tencent is partnered for the creation of Pokémon UNITE, and that's even scarier Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:54 AM PDT For those who didnt catch it, Tencent is partnering with Nintendo for the Pokémon UNITE game. They are the owners of Riot games, and have been a part of numerous scandals, mostly involving giving user data to the Chinese goverment. The announcement also said "Free to START for the Switch, Android and iOS" and "In-app purchases available" which is a nice way of saying "Microtrasactions" and possibly "Pay to win" So we got the owner of Riot games, who created LoL, a game with A Pokémon MOBA is not a bad idea in of itself, but MOBAs are difficult to balance, and require alot of work. It also requires to be maintained, and can easily be dropped or discontinued Cough Battleborn Cough I personally like MOBAs (Huge SMITE player) so I HOPE it's good... but... I mean the writing is on the wall. So for now, I will just refresh the trailer, look at the dislikes rise, and wait for more news. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:18 AM PDT Pokemon Unite. "Free to start" so a shit ton of in app purchases. Mobile game ofc. 10 players so a crap ton of lag. League of Legends with a Pokemon skin. Just a boring overall presentation. 80% of the playable characters are generation 1. And that's it? That's the direct? Just Pokemon League of Legends? No Crown Tundra release date or Diamond and Pearl Remakes or Let's go Johto? Just Pokemon Unite which they could have added to the last direct but I guess they really needed that extra week Well anyways Pokemon Snap 2 is coming out so that's hype but they didn't release the date for it so thats cool I guess. [link] [comments] |
Black 2 and white 2 had great postgame Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:52 AM PDT I think something that Pokemon need is a long term goal postgame, instead of an infinite post game. By that I mean, instead of the postgame just being some place where you can infinitely battle trainers only getting some BP, we should have it like bw2 where you have to fight your way up that tower in black city and it is very difficult however at the end you get the reward of a shiny gible/ dratini. I would enjoy this a lot more because it feels like your actually working towards something. (I'm also praying the crown tundra will be like bw2 having to do puzzles and such to get legendarys instead of being handed to you like in usum) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:24 AM PDT Yeah yeah, "shouldn't have gotten your expectations high. If I'm honest, I didn't. I was excited for pretty much anything. But then you throw a crappy league of legends ripoff to me? "Cross platform"? Of course it's cross platform guys there's two fucking platforms. I'm not disappointed, honestly. I just wish I hadn't gotten up to watch this underwhelming reveal. Just show that fifteen minute long ad for a shovelware game the same week as everything else. They know they were teasing more. It's gross to see that misused in an attempt to make a new Pokémon Go for like the thousandth time. [link] [comments] |
Pokemon Unite, a MOBA Pokemon game, was just announced Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:08 AM PDT Opinions on it? Honestly I was not expecting sth like this at all lol. I don't personally like MOBA genre, but it looks fine. The real problem is that the community was expecting remakes, so it's really disappointing. [link] [comments] |
It is totally justified to be disappointed with today’s annoucement. Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:50 AM PDT Scrolling through Twitter's response to the announcement of Pokémon Unite, I have seen a lot of people criticizing those disappointed with the announcement, saying things like "We're in the middle of a DLC rollout, why would you expect a big title" or "You overhyped yourself again as usual." However, I believe it's totally justified to be at the least underwhelmed by Unite. Pokémon announced that this presentation would reveal their next "big project." Not a lot of people's definition of a big project is a mobile game, so obviously people are going to be angry about that. Plus, for the crowd saying that they obviously weren't going to reveal a big new title during DLC season, they literally said they were going to do just that so people hyped accordingly. Even if you hypothetically argue that Unite is a big release, no one would consider it a bigger release than Snap. A proper Snap sequel has been something fans have wanted for years, and by revealing that in last week's presentation, Pokemon made it seem like today's reveal had to be at least as hype or even more hype than Snap's reveal. When it ended up not being that way, people were rightfully disappointed. As others have said, the recent announcements would have gone over far better had Snap and Unite swapped slots. TPC were the ones who misconstrued the importance of today's announcement, unreasonably hyping it up with a separate release date and calling it a "big project," so those disappointed are entirely not at fault. Don't blame the fans for misleading advertising on Pokémon's end. TL;DR: Despite the quality of Unite, TPC extremely oversold the hype factor of this reveal, and fans have every right to be disappointed after rightfully expecting something at least on par with Snap. [link] [comments] |
I’m fully convinced TPC was expecting the Switch to flop and was planning on going fully Mobile. Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:58 AM PDT Ever since the astronomical monetary success of Go, TPC has been looking at the mobile market with hungry eyes. You can't necessarily blame them, the game made truck loads of money and revitalized the brand in the public eye. It now feels like the majority of Pokémon game announcements are mobile games of one kind or another. TPC were late comers to the Switch with both Let's Go and SwSh feeling rushed to some extent. It genuinely feels to me like they fully expected the Switch to flop and were planning on taking the franchise in a fully mobile direction. Especially given Masuda's past comments on the attention span of gamers in the mobile age. I think the only reason they even still make any console games is because of Nintendo's large stake in the TPC and their partial ownership of the IP. I was shocked when New Snap was announced, and not just because we were getting a Snap sequel after 2 decades, but because we were getting a console exclusive spinoff for the first time since Pokken. All the other spinoffs have been F2P mobile games that were ported to the Switch. I can't say I was a disappointed or surprised by the announcement of Unite today, it really just feels par the course for TPC in 2020. I don't get let them get my hopes up enough for them to let me down anymore. The quality of Unite is reflective of TPC's declining gameplay standards and growing tendency to rely simply on the brands aesthetic to sell units or in this case micro-transactions. This post is less of a condemnation, and more of an observation. It really feels like they were planning to put all their eggs in the mobile basket and had to backtrack when the Switch turned out to be a hit. At least that's how I interpret their actions personally. Thoughts, opinions, and interpretations are all welcome below. [link] [comments] |

An opinion from an MOBA player about Unite. Posted: 24 Jun 2020 07:08 AM PDT Im gonna ignore the whole controversy and just give my opinion on the gameplay. I like the concept. It really feels natural to "level" your pokemon by battling wild ones and i also like the evolution of the pokemons on a certain level. BUT the game lacks dephts. Their are no items (as it seems) the gameplay will be very shallow. The fact that it is an Handy/Switch moba means many people will have a high ping... And why exactly did they choose dominion as their main game mode?? Its by far the worst mode that was ever avaible in League? If it would have been developed for PC with a LOT more depht it would have been certainly an interesting game which i would have atleast tried... But its gonna be very lacking in depht and gameplay. In addition Dominion just feels unnatural like you habe to stand still to capture a point (for i dunno 10 seconds). The Game is gonna feel fucking repatative after a short period of time.
