I think that Cyrus is one of the most interesting villains in Pokemon Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:23 AM PDT This is taking a look at the information the game gives us and my own personal theories to explain why I believe Cyrus may be one of the best Pokemon Villains. This does not include information from anime or manga since I am not versed in that and it may or may not be canon. I think when you're just going through the game without putting much thought into it, Cyrus is a pretty standard sociopathic villain wanting to remake the world. However, at least compared to the other villains in Pokemon, I find Cyrus to actually be a very deep character. We can learn of his past in Sunyshore City. There, we learn that he was an excellent student, although not social. We're also told that, although being a good student, he wasn't meeting his parents expectations. Putting these two together, we can conclude that his parents worked him hard to succeed in his education and Cyrus desperately worked hard to please his parents, sacrificing his social life in the process, but even though his grades were considered good his parents didn't think he was good enough. This alongside his asocial nature leads us to believe his parents rejected him, and never gave him a childhood. As he grew up, he came to believe that emotions were the source of the worlds problems, and in his case he may have been right. It was likely greed, or a want to impress others that made his parents only care about him achieving perfection in his education. This experience likely tainted his view on the world, and as he had no experience in love or friendship, he could only see the effects of negative emotions. He is quoted in game as saying that the human spirit is weak and tainted, causing strife to spread. This is in reference to his belief that humans cannot control their emotions and let ones such as greed dictate their life, whereas those without such emotions wouldn't feel these personal urges and understand that cooperation would benefit everyone. As he aged, Cyrus never fully allowed these concepts of love or joy to manifest out of fear he would become like his parents. However, he was a man that rejected emotions in a world full of emotions, and it was likely that if Cyrus did indeed feel any emotions at all, they would be fear and confusion. There's also the fact that later in the game, he has a Crobat, which evolves from friendship. This could simply be explained by him manipulating it into liking him, but I prefer the theory that, even if he couldn't bring himself to show love to humans, he could with his close Pokemon because they didn't have the same social hierarchy that would insite them to betray and manipulate for their own personal gains. In a lot of his quotes, Cyrus specifically mentions the human spirit, which further supports this idea that he felt that humans specifically were at fault. Eventually, this drove him to the idea of rewriting the world. This was the desperate attempt of a scared man that, either through the selfish want of being understood by like-minded individuals, or wanting the betterment of the world, was willing to erase everything he ever knew to create the one thing he could understand, a spiritless world where people wouldn't deceive others or would want anything for their personal needs. Everyone would only care for the emotionless continuation of mankind, without flaws. To him, this was the ideal world. Moving over to USUM, we see a slightly puzzling scene. After being defeated, Cyrus simply... goes back to the new world he created. Perhaps he simply didn't think he would be able to change this one too and decided to quit while he was ahead, but I prefer to think that maybe he had a change of heart. During this exchange, Cyrus is specifically talking to the Rotom Dex. It's worth noting the Rotom Dex is a mix of Pokemon, Machine and Human Spirit. One of these things he tolerates, the other he likes, and the last he despises. I think that having come directly from the new world, he saw both the good and bad that came from his creation, and now upon seeing this amalgamation and how it views the world, he understood how some emotions were beneficial. He may have still believed his world was the better one, since he decided to return there, but I believe he had enough respect to understand that human spirit could peacefully coexist with machine and Pokemon, and the people in this world wanted to live like that. This could of course could be way deeper than he was ever intended to be by the developers, but I think even the possibility of a character having such complicated morals is a sign of good character design. Does anyone else think Chairman Rose is a terrible character? Posted: 04 Jul 2020 08:49 PM PDT Hope that doesn't sound too harsh, but I thought it'd be fun to drop me thoughts here. There's a lot to criticize in Sword and Shield's story, but personally, Chairman Rose's character feels like it's the worst it has to offer. Feel free to disagree though! For starters, as the villain, what is he trying to accomplish? He harps on about an "energy crisis" and is almost desperate to make sure it never happens, but... what is he talking about? Is it a lack of resources in Galar? Why is it such a problem if it's a thousand years into the future? And as Leon says, why does it need to be fixed this second, and why can't it wait until after the Pokemon League is over? What bad is this energy crisis going to cause? Second, Eternatus... Hooow does Chairman Rose even HAVE Eternatus? That's not a minor thing to gloss over, especially considering not many people knew about it. Did he just... stumble upon it? Was it underground? Did he mine for it knowing of its existence? How does he know that it's Eternatus, what it's capable of, and how to siphon energy from and feed it? Does he have more knowledge on this than the Pokemon professor? Though, I think he got his information from Professor Magnolia somehow...? Nothing is explained, or even interesting... Which is sad, considering Eternatus is a cool boss fight. Lastly, what I dislike the most, his interactions. It feels like he's a different person in almost every interaction he has with you. He's a friendly businessman who cares for Galar for the most part, which is fine, but then there are scenes like the one where Bede destroys that mural. 1.) According to Bede and Opal, Oleana "tricked" him into doing that, which... is pretty out of character considering she never does anything evil outside of that, and has no reason to sabotage Bede? 2.) Chairman Rose decides to disown, or at least revoke gym challenger status from Bede over that, because "destroying Galar to help Galar isn't worth it, and you must respect our region." When... Rose is willing to literally bring back the darkest day in Galar history for the sake of fixing the same problem...? Not to mention, Bede destroying the mural ended up being beneficial to Galar's history only after everyone walked away. Regardless, why does he treat Bede like this when he's established to be a good father figure to him prior to that? Then there's the climax. He brings back the darkest day and... claims Leon "forced his hand" or something, somehow? Regardless, when Leon goes to help Chairman Rose defeat Eternatus, you and Hop follow to do the same thing. And when you arrive, Chairman Rose acts like he "won't let you stop him" for some reason, until you beat him and he... asks for your help, and adds he hopes he didn't discourage you? And of course, he goes to jail and is never seen again. No reflection on his actions, nothing else to add. That's... just it for him. I'd go over more scenes involving him, but beyond his interactions with Bede and the climax, there isn't much to talk about. He's just an inconsistently written villain with little explanation as to what he's trying to do and why. Alone, he kinda brings the story down from just okay to straight up bad, in my opinion. Had to do an animation for uni so I did one of my favorite pokemon (Torchic) Posted: 05 Jul 2020 08:33 AM PDT I had to do a 5 second loop in After Effects, this is what I made. I call it: Torchic wants to come out and play (make sure to have the audio on!) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jul 2020 03:07 PM PDT Team Rocket for the first time thus far in the entire anime up to that point (and to my recollection might still be the only time since) cheered for ash in one of his league battles, and it stemming from meowth, Jessie and James all seeing Paul abuse his Chimchar and meowth trying to give chimchar advice at several points throughout the series while it's under ash's ownership, for it to all beautifully culminate with Infernape's amazing blaze and it wrecking Paul in an all around amazing match before that makes Ash vs Paul not only the best Pokémon fight but one of the best anime fights I've ever seen The Kalos fights look very pleasing but there seems to be minimal character attachment to these battles and a lot of them aren't that amazing [link] [comments] |

What is your plan when building your team Posted: 05 Jul 2020 04:01 AM PDT What's the first thing that comes to your mind when building a team for your pokemon playthrough? Is it good stats? Type coverage? Or simply your personal favorites? If you have another one you can comment. For me when im planning what my team could be, i always focus on the type coverage, no matter if its a mediocre or if there are better pokemon, if it has a good type combination it goes in my team. I really like that because i experience the battle more instead of destroying them. (im not very good at choosing words am i?) [link] [comments] |
Something everyone has forgotten about that could improve any game: the S.S. Anne. Posted: 04 Jul 2020 03:56 PM PDT I'm playing Let's Go Pikachu using my original Yellow team, and I'm at the S.S. Anne. One of the sailors said that she only shows up at Vermillion once a year. So that got me thinking... What if one week a year, after you became champion, the S.S. Anne docked at any given region's seaside town? It would be a BIG online gala with challenging trainers to defeat with Pokémon from other regions, possibly champions like Cynthia or Red. I think it would be a fun little thing to keep the game fresh. After all, it is a party cruiser. Once she's spent her time at the docks, they'd ask you politely to allow them to clean up the ship and make for their next destination. They'd give you a commemorative ribbon for each of your Pokémon. Then next year, the S.S. Anne would return! Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jul 2020 03:54 AM PDT I don't know, I just feel like it'd make sense for it to get a STAB slashing type or 'sword' like move. Even 'shadow claw', it's ghost type STAB Is a scratch more than a slash. The closest to a logical action for it to do as a sword are 'Slash' (normal type), 'Night Slash' (Dark type), and 'Sacred Sword' (Fighting type). Non of which are STAB moves for it. I just feel that when there's a literal possessed sword Pokémon, you'd at least expect there to be a slashing motion steel type move. It could work for Pokémon like Cobalion as well, or Kabutops, and other Pokémon who have either a sword like horn or arms. If non steel type Pokémon with hard heads or body can harden their body parts to use steel moves like Iron Head and Iron Tail. Then I see so reason why Pokémon with sharp limbs, horns, etc, can't harden their part to steel like strength, and slash as a steel type move. Feels kind of like a missed opportunity [link] [comments] |
Cubone's description in pokemon sun and moon is so sad. Posted: 05 Jul 2020 05:07 AM PDT like, I don't know what it's description in the other games are but in sun, the description goes as follows, 'When it thinks of its deceased mother, it weeps loudly. Mandibuzz that hear it's cries will attack it from the air'. I cant be the only one who thinks this is sad right? [link] [comments] |

Heliolisk Proves Chairman Wrong and Save the World Scenarios are Pointless in Pokemon Posted: 05 Jul 2020 10:57 AM PDT Did you know according to the shield pokedex on Heliolisk, it states, "One Heliolisk basking in the sun with its frill outspread is all it would take to produce enough electricity to power a city." Literally, a Heliolisk can power a entire city just by chilling, meaning that to power the entirity of Galar you would just need a pack of these hooked on to a generator. The fact that energy would ever even be a problem in Galar is just dumb and using a dangerous fuel source such as dynamax energy is completely pointless. This is just Heliolisk mind you, meaning that the only way that energy would ever be a problem anywhere in the pokemon world would be if all electric pokemon were to go extinct. Chairman Rose is literally the most stupid main villain and we a gang leader give money to the person who thwarted their entire plans twice. The only reason that Rose was even a villain is because they wanted a still unexplained excuse as to why Eternatus is there when it could just be as simple as saying Eternatus is a pokemon that is powered by and generates dynamax energy that is causing havoc because that's what dynamax energy does. Please tell me if I have something wrong here, because I can't make sense of Rose's plan or his ineptitude. [link] [comments] |
Gravity should have the effect that reduces Speed. Posted: 05 Jul 2020 08:36 AM PDT According to the move's description, it causes the field to undergo intense gravity. The gravity is so intense that all flying pokemons or any pokemons that have to touch the ground and it boosts moves' accuracy. It implies that the intense gravity makes the pokemons having trouble to move around. So shoudn't it has the effect that reduces speed ? [link] [comments] |
Guys, I’ve found the perfect YouTube video Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:20 AM PDT |
Pokemon Home needs to finally let us search the GTS for Pokemon that others are requesting. Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:19 AM PDT I get on the GTS in hopes of trading my Pokemon in rare balls for other Pokemon in rare balls. If I search for Level 1-10 whatever, I overwhelmingly find people requesting Kubfu and Urshifu (with the legendaries tag off, mind you). I might find a fair trade rarely, but I usually don't have those Pokemon on hand at the time. I would love to be FINALLY able to search by the Pokemon I'm willing to trade and have on hand. I might just be wanting to trade off breedjects for any other breedjects, but can't do it easily without resorting to 3rd parties like Reddit or Discord. [link] [comments] |
Would pokemon be more fun if it updated its battle mechanics? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:20 AM PDT So, I'm sittin' on the toilet right now, I just finished persona 5 royal yesterday, and this combination got me thinking: would pokemon be more fun if it changed from the 1 v 1 battle style we've got currently to 4 v 3 or 4 v X where X is capped at maybe 6 mons? I'm not sure how catching individual pokes would work with this battle style, but I'm curious to know what the community thinks about this. [link] [comments] |
Best way to purchase legit older DS/3DS games? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:41 AM PDT Hello: I've recently gotten back into the main series of games with Sword+Isle of Armor and I'm loving it. I was big into Pokemon when I was in middle-school in the late 90s and I quit playing before Gen 2 came out. I was given a copy of Pokemon Moon which I've beaten - and now I want to catch up on all that I've missed. I downloaded Pokemon Silver from the 3DS VC and hope to finish that soon. While looking for copies of Platinum, BW/BW2, X/Y, and ORAS on-line, I've been given warning that I need to be careful that I don't get ripped off with bootleg copies. I've even read stories of people ending up with bootlegs from GameStop. What's the best way to go about finding legit copies of the DS and 3DS games? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jul 2020 04:01 AM PDT Pokemon is said to be for children. My brother is 12 and doesn't care about Pokemon because he doesn't find it interesting. The same applies to other of my family members of that age. You can see a lot of adults and teenagers playing Pokemon because of the nostalgia. Is there a statistic somewhere which age groups really play Pokemon? It seems like more adults and teenagers are playing pokemon than children. [link] [comments] |

I've lost my love for Pokémon. And I'm gonna get it back Posted: 05 Jul 2020 10:57 AM PDT Over the past few years, give or take, I've found myself growing distant from the Pokémon franchise. I can't place the exact reasons, but the love I had has faded away. I still care about it, but only my favorite games really stand out to me. Pokémon is one of my favorite things ever, so this self-revelation sucks. Well now that I've gotten free time in quarantine, I'm gonna fix this. I'm gonna play all 14 mainline Pokémon games within Gen 1 to 8, no special rules or treatment. I'm gonna treat Let's Go Eevee (my least favorite) as I would treat Platinum (my favorite). No ifs, ands, or buts. By
I have very little of this prepped. The most I've done is check that I have these games, and listed out Pokémon I've never used. I plan to mix around my favorites and ones I've never used, as well as never use the same Pokémon twice, so I can get a full experience. And of course, I expect ypu guys to hold me to this promise. Of you guys have any advice, I'll take it. See you guys in EDIT: By the recommendation of you all, I'm changing it to 6 weeks. I think I could've done it in 4, but this is more doable [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jul 2020 10:31 PM PDT Some games have been able to pull it off very well but with 3D Models and no sounds coming out Pokémon Sword and Shield just looks very awkward to me playing through so many hours of a game without hearing a single word can be really annoying. Especially when there's team YELL and they're fucking silent the entire time, oh and of course the infamous scene where they have a singer screaming into a microphone and it's just..... silence..... I mean Roxie sang a little I feel like I would be able to immerse myself in the story way much faster if there was voice acting. [link] [comments] |
What the hell is with the Catch Rate in Galar? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:35 AM PDT Seriously, what the hell. I can have a Pokemon at 1 HP, paralyzed, and still waste 50+ ultra balls on it, all while it decides to use my party for target practice. The 50+ ultra balls thing isn't hyperbole either-- I used almost eighty trying to catch a Falinks, which is currently waiting to be wondertraded until I can think of a suitably insulting nickname for it. Is there a glitch that makes the catch rate dip into the negative numbers after 2:00 AM local time or something? Or am I just incredibly unlucky? [link] [comments] |
Recent posts from the Pokemon Go team further imply that Blanche uses they/them Non-Binary pronouns. Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:56 AM PDT In some recent "Willow Reports" entitled Strange Scraps, the Pokemon Go team continues to refer to Blanche using they/them pronouns. Most notably during a conversation in which the team alternates between using he/him pronouns for Spark and they/them pronouns for Blanche. This is some pretty rock solid evidence to me. Game experiences similar to Red, Yellow and Blue? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:42 AM PDT I'm here looking for some help on finding a new game. To be honest I'm not a very big gamer I'll play a little red dead 2 occasionally and I loved/still love playing Pokémon red and yellow on my game boy color. I never played any of the newer Pokémon games over the years. But now I'm wanting to find another Pokémon game that will provide a similar gaming experience similar to the game boy color Pokémon games. I like the some what simplistic nature of Red/Yellow while still having the open world feel to it. I am absolutely clueless to any similar Pokémon games and any help is appreciated!
