TIL badges in Gen 1-3, along with making certain level pokemon obey, can also give in-battle stat boosts (the Boulderbadge increases your pokemon's attack stat by 12.5%). Also, only in Gen 2, badges boost moves of their type. (Zephyr badge increases flying moves by 12.5%)

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 01:49 AM PDT

I know there is an NPC in FR/LG at least that tells you about the stat boosts, but I had never heard about the type boosts. In GSC, the Zephyr badge in particular increases your attack stat by 12.5% AND increases your Flying-type moves by 12.5%, meaning all Flying moves are now multiplied by 1.265625 as a result, since all Flying moves are physical in Gen 2.

    https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Badge#Effects

In Gen 3, the stat boost is only 10% not 12.5%

In all Gens, the boosts are not applied in link battles

An interesting idea for gen 9

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 07:23 AM PDT

So I have this idea and I think it would be really cool. What if In gen 9 the main villain completes their plan early on and the rest of the game is you as the trainer trying to get strong enough to take the villain down while battling the gyms and taking down the villains admins and then when you finally get to the villain (the villain would be the champion) you have a final fight and the villain has level 65 - 70 Pokémon with the legendary at 75 as their last Pokémon. I think this would be pretty cool and if something like this does happen I also hope they give us a rival who at the beginning of the game is like blue but by the mid game realizes that they need to focus on beating the villain than being stronger than the player and then you fight alongside each other. Idk just an idea.

New Pokemon Black and White World Record!

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 07:01 AM PDT

Is there anyone who feels the same as I do about gen 8 starters?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 10:33 AM PDT

I've always loved at least 1 starter each generation, occasionally two and in Johto and Hoenn all three. However, I can't get myself to like any of the Galar starters, in fact I don't like them at all. When I first played the game I boxed the Grookey that was given to me as soon as I could and I never used it again (I had never boxed my starter before unless I wanted to play some kind of challenge, and I played all Pokémon games a lot of times). I don't know if it's because they're too humanoid (especially Intelleon and Cinderace) or something else but this really bothers me.

    My favorite HG/SS feature

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 04:25 PM PDT

I loved how you could catch both box legends. If you chose HG, you could easily catch Ho-oh, and it was quite strong. Yet later on in Kanto you could do a long side quest to find Lugia. It was so interesting to me how they did that. Do you think they should do it again?

What if Alola had a Champion?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 03:45 AM PDT

Every region has had a Champion, except alola, where you fought either Kukui or Hau, depending on whether you're playing Sun and Moon or Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, but that got me thinking, what if Alola DID have a Champion? What Pokemon would they have? This is what I'm thinking:

Starter that's stronger against your's with their respective Z-Crystal - let's be honest, it's kinda tradition for a Champion to have that starter at this point.

Mantine if their starter isn't Primarena: I kinda feel like this is the Water type that makes the most sense, considering Mantine Surfing is an outstandingly popular sport in Alola

Arcanine if their starter isn't Incineroar: I can't really see a Champion having an Alolan Marowak, as I can see that being Kiawe's Pokemon, and Salazzle is Plumeria's Ace. As for the other fire types, I can't a Champion using Talonflame, Magmortar, Volcarona, Torkoal, Turtonator, Houndoom or Pyroar either, so that leaves Arcanine!

Alolan Exeggutor if their starter isn't Decidueye: Now hear me out, Exeggutor is probably the most iconic Alolan form in my opinion, and I think it's the pokemon that best represents Alola. Plus I think it looks cool.

Kommo-o: Every champion except for Blue has had a pseudo-legendary, so it would make sense for this one to have Kommo-o.

Weavile: They're on Mount Lanakila, and you get Sneasel there. Plus Weavile's just a cool pokemon.

And last but not least: Aerodactyl (Mega Aerodactyl if it's the rematch) Leon has Charizard, Iris has Archaeops, Cynthia has Togekiss, Steven has Skarmory, and Lance has one of his many Dragonites. What I'm trying to say is, almost every champion has a pokemon they can fly around on, and in my opinion, Aerodactyl was the best choice, as it's probably the best Mega evolving flying type in the Alola Pokedex. Also Aerodactyl is a cool pokemon for a Champion to have.

Is this a cool concept? Are there any things that you would change? Let me know in the comments what you think!

Edit: I meant to put Volcarona in the category of: A Champion already has them as their ace!

If you weren't a battler, what would you be?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 03:45 AM PDT

Battling is what the games are all about, careers in other areas relating to pokemon (performer, breeder, ranger, healthcare, researcher, etc) are rarely, if at all, expanded upon. Even outside of the games, it's made clear that battle trainers form the backbone of the pokemon world's lifestyle and culture.

The anime brings more light to some of these careers (at least as far as I'm aware, my only anime experience is first season of XY lol), and it's a no-brainer that there's far more to the life and society of the pokemon world than battling.

Personally, I would try to find success in the music industry. Ever since I was introduced to deadmau5 at around 11 years old, I had at least been somewhat interested in music production. For the next couple years I pumped out amateur level tracks, slowly gaining more knowledge of FL Studio, until I got tired of not being able to execute ideas I actually really liked how I wanted to. It's been quite a while, and I want to get back into it again, but in a fantasy world with an iconic character's overall message of never giving up, how hard could it be? Several sound based pokemon already exist to help out in production (Exploud, Chimecho, Toxtricity, etc), several more can know Sing, and I know music videos are easily an additional aspect of the job thanks to XY's display of Serena's ambitions.

Does anyone else have this desire to gather some friends and travel a region, country or continent like in the anime?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 07:40 AM PDT

I don't want to miss out on what life has to offer outside of my city, you know? I want to meet people, help people, learn about different communities, experience the countryside and suburbs, climb mountains, wander through forests and more!

Maybe it's something I can tie with my future career or something I do on the side once I'm more situated financially and mentally.

I've also never been to a Pokemon Convention which I'm sure would be a great time. The Pokemon community is very imaginative and as a result is good at creating real life fun out of a game where the creatures and characters aren't real through things like competitions and cosplaying etc

    What is your dream team?

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 11:36 PM PDT

This means a team of six comprised of what could be your favorites, the ones that seem the coolest to you, the ones that are the most powerful, or even the ones that would combine to be really fun. Really, it's an open question that could be answered with many different approaches.

I'll start, my dream team would be of some Pokémon I haven't used very much but like. I would have Crustle, Toxicroak, Lopunny, Altaria, Typhlosion, and Magnezone. I've never actually used Toxicroak but it seems like it would be fun to have on a team.

Its been said before but why isnt there a difficulty setting?

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 05:23 PM PDT

Surely Gamefreak are aware they have such a diverse fan base; everything from kids just getting into the franchise to now 18+ fans who haven't felt the same feeling from any other game.

My opinion is that one of their next games needs something along these lines:

Easy: pretty much Pokemon sword and shield, it runs you through everything, holds your hand through the first hour of gameplay, tells you what moves are effective once you've fought a Pokemon before, all opponents are brain dead.

Normal: should be aimed for the 12-15 kinda age group, people who haven't necessarily played loads of Pokemon games but know their way through the basics, shortened tutorial that simply has a "would you like me to get you up to speed on the world of a Pokemon trainer?" Prompt from the professor at the start. You aren't told type advantages in battle and opponents aren't geniuses but don't spam "but it failed!"/"but it doesn't effect x!" Kinds of moves

Hard: no tutorial, massively reduced 'death by explanation' including removal of "its super effective!" Prompts. Opposing trainers have basic knowledge of type advantages and have generally higher level Pokemon with better moves.

Veteran: the mode people like me would die for, same as hard but your rival chooses the type effective against yours, constantly adapts their team based off of what Pokemon you had last time you fought with them or against them so you're left at a disadvantage if you don't update your team. All trainers have perfect type advantage knowledge, have higher level Pokemon and some will be able to use advanced items such as full restore, normal revive and status condition remedies. Wild Pokemon will regularly hold berries and can use better moves. This mode could also be more rewarding with higher payouts from battles, increased chances for shiny Pokemon and maybe a handful of retro Pokemon usually not found in the region available only through this mode.

I already own a switch but I guarantee that if the Pokemon franchise brought a challenging experience to the table for fans, they'd see a lot more sales from that age group. I like the new games, but sword was so easy, I don't think I actually had a Pokemon faint once throughout it, it just doesn't give you that feeling that the old games did. Dug out my DSi and (shamefully) my old R4 card because I wanted to see if I was just having nostalgia for the old games and only loved them so much because I was younger. But played some Diamond and the game still gives me enjoyment even after all this time, because it is more challenging, especially at the start.

    Proud day for an Aunt

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 11:25 AM PDT

Today my nephew told me if you press on the pokeball while its closed in pokemon go, it helps it catch. I am his only pokemon influence right now, I don't know where he got it but I'm glad to see the legacy continues.

I also taught him how to play the trading card game, and watched him catch his first shiny on pogo.

    Advantages of previous gens.

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 05:27 AM PDT

I've been trying to compile the perks of each generation in terms of replayability and transferable perks. Purposefully leaving off the legendaries in the gen.

Gen 1(VC): All mons have HA when moved up to bank.

Gen2(VC): Celebri, same as previous gen.

Gen 3: The first gen to have ribbons (ribbon hunters start here).

Gen 4: Ribbons, Kurt's Balls, Safari Balls.

Gen 5: HA mons in B2W2.

Gen 6: Ribbons, easy HAs through friend safaris.

Gen 7: Regional variants, ribbons, HA access through SOS, access to bottle caps to IV cap older gens.

Gen 8: Easy pokemon manipulation through bottle caps and mints.

This is my first discussion post and if it sucks just let me know, haha, but am I missing anything else? Is it even worth it to pursue older gens for easier apriball access?

    My Experience of Pokémon Sword/Shield.

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 02:33 AM PDT

Ok so I just got Pokémon Shield a month ago and here's what I think about it so far.

I've watched the original Pokémon Series since I was a kid and dropped back into pokémon at the time Pokémon Black & White anime we're about to end and got Pokémon Black 2.I played it and I played it a hell lot and loved it.

Time flew by I watched the Pokémon XY,Kalos Quest and XYZ and then SM,SMUA,SMUL but never got the 3DS or it's games.

However I got my switch last year and after other games I finally got Pokémon Shield. I knew about the DLC but I thought I would buy it only if I find the game fun to play. So the game was fine I enjoyed it as happy I was about the 3D models and everything (Since it's a big deal cuz Black 2 only had sprites and it was my first game with the 3D models) but at the same time some of my favorite Pokémon were removed e.g, Zoroark, Darkrai, also because I had finished watching the Alola series I also wanted a Lycanroc.

At the start it was good and new to me but the game got really repetitive boring also the Max Raid Battles became more and more impossible due to the broken NPCs A.I. and their crappy pokémon with crappy movesets. The Max Raid Battles were literally a no go during the Zeraora event. Now someone might be wondering that why didn't I used online battles it's because I didn't had the NSO membership and the online battles were broken after the update anyways.

The animations aren't great either and are extremely broken. GAME FREAK said that they were cutting Pokedex for better and expressive animations but the animations are just ridiculous let alone the fact that they wiped half of the Pokedex for this reason. After the DLC dropped it was at this point I said to myself that this is a good point to draw a line. That's because GAME FREAK is literally just selling us what should've been the part of the base game for 30$. Let's take Animal Crossing New Horizons as an example they give out free updates. They could've also done the DLC but they realize how it should be. Also if I was to have a NSO membership how am I supposed to backup my precious Shiny hunted pokémons ? Pokémon Home ? That's just another cash-grab by GAME FREAK because the Pokémons data take Bytes of storage so they're just selling a few MBs of storage for 16$.

Now I know that they have added the Pokémon added in the DLC to the base game without any additional costs. That's actually great, now how am I supposed to get them ? Trade with the TOXIC community of pokémon. I mean literally people are just hungry for your hard earned Shinies, Mythicals and legendaries. Not only that but people and like dying for them ripping-off people and stuff like this. You also can't get a simple trade for a trade nope, people have to hack and give you hacked Pokémon and Pollute the community even further. Hacking has been a thing since so long but pokémon just can't give a damn about it. I mean I get it that being a hardcore Pokémon fan Pokémon are a huge deal but it's not something to get too crazy for I mean it's just some digital fake animals nothing to be too crazy about to like lie to people, abuse, selling hacked Pokémon for real currency etc.

Over all it was a terrible experience of both the games as well as the Pokémon community. I hate that Pokémon is going in this direction but I think it's a good point to end my love for Pokémon which was for about 12 years now. TBH I feel like I'm being betrayed by someone but it's for good. Also I've never traded or sold any game of mine but I really feel like trading this piece of garbage for something better.

TL;DR : Pokémon was a good franchise years ago nowadays it's all about cash-grabs and garbage quality of games. Pokémon Sword and Shield are a bit fun until the story ends the rest is just a broken mess GAME FREAK just want to make money from.

If anybody thinks I'm wrong they can prove it in the comments in a respectful manner.

What are the most generic Pokémon teams of every region?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 07:39 AM PDT

Self explanatory hypothetical question. For Kanto, I'd say something involving Charizard, Arcanine, and maybe Pidgeot. Probably one of the most famous examples is everyone having Staraptor and Luxray on a sinnoh team, lol. Here's one: HGSS - Typhlosion, Quagsire, Ampharos, Heracross, Crobat, Togetic
My team exactly just replace Typhlosion and Togetic with Meganium and Miltank.

My aunt strongly believes that there should only be Ash, Misty, and Brock. What do you guys think?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 06:08 AM PDT

As the title said my aunt strongly believes that Misty and Brock should of never been replace and only have new characters be a temporary companion like Korrina. She also believes that only the original 151 should exists. I don't agree with this and I believe that the show would of died a long time ago, what do you guys think about this?

Edit: spelling Edit 2: I forgot to mention that she had only seen indigo league and the orange island, she hasn't been re-exposed to pokemon until pokemon journeys came out but she is still firm about her opinion

    Pokemon seems different.

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 01:11 AM PDT

When I was younger, Pokemon was legitimately my life. I had (and still do) over a thousand cards, and I watched the show religiously. It will always have a spot in my heart, for being there for me as a kid. Recently I went and rewatched old shows, one of which is Pokemon. But at 13, Pokemon is so much different than it was. Some bits are fine, and cause me serious deja-vu. But quite a lot of it has caused me to physically cringe. This is sad for me, because it was such a large part of my life. I remember all of my favourite Pokemon, like Greninja and Lycanroc. This is probably odd to ask, but does anyone know any ways to see it in a light that is similar to how it was when I was younger? I don't really want to go through hours of childhood memories that just leave a bitter taste in my mouth. Thank you in advance!

My pokemon bank crysis right now.

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 11:32 AM PDT

I'm trying to transfer my last batch of 3DS pokemons to home, only for my bank to expire.

To be fair i personally have no issue to pay 5$ for pokemon bank, problem is i couldn't. My 3ds is British, and i now live in asia. and Europe has banned 3DS from paying via credit card now, meaning my only option is using a giftcard.

but not only gift card cost more than the actual prices, but turns out somebody at nintendo UK thought is a big gamer move to only sell them 15£ at bare minimum.

worst part is i'm only literally 2£ short to refill the subscription.

Any way to increase rockruff spawns?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 09:19 AM PDT

So I'm trying to shiny hunt rockruff right now in sword, and I'm about 300 rockruff in. The issue I've been having is that despite the game allegedly boosting spawn rates as you encounter more, barely any show up for me. I have to encounter some other Pokémon and run to try and open up room for more rockruff to appear. Am I doing something wrong? Or should I just keep trucking?

    Megas

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 10:39 AM PDT

I have a question: Other than the mass cutting of stuff from sword and shield and moving on of gimmicks, why were Megas moves on from?

I thought the general consensus was that they were nothing but good for the game as it made somewhat weaker Pokemon stronger and could sometimes, if used properly, turn a battle around.

I've heard that some comp players weren't happy but honestly who cares? Shouldn't they learn to adapt to the new stuff instead of complaining?

Anyway like to see what everyone thinks and if they were to be expanded on which Pokémon would you like to see get Megas?
