Posted: 30 Aug 2020 06:54 AM PDT For me, it's Gigantamax. It's sort of like a mix between z-moves and megas. They get a cool new look, and a cool new powerful move. Plus it looks so cool, battling with giant Pokémon. Plus, not every Pokémon can mega evolve, but every single Pokémon can Dynamax at the very least. Edit: I've seen a lot of comments about regional variants, so I thought I'd add this. I decided not to include them in this poll because they seem like more of a feature than a game-changing mechanic. [link] [comments] |
Did Kingdra's SWSH Pokedex entry accidentally leak a Pokemon coming back in the Crown Tundra? Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:21 AM PDT I was reading up on Kingdra's Pokedex entry for Sword and Shield on Bulbapedia as it was a returning Pokemon added in the Isle of Armor DLC and I found something interesting. Here's it's Sword Pokedex entry:
Hold up, wait a minute. Dragonite? Dragonite isn't in Sword and Shield nor has it been officially revealed so I don't understand why they would mention a Pokemon that's not even transferrable to the game... Unless... Dragonite is scheduled to return in the Crown Tundra DLC later this year. On a side note, I also like how they've been doing the regional Pokedexes lately as of Gen 7. The dex entries seem to make the Pokemon more relevant to their region and even highlights new cross relationships between Pokemon of different generations, due to them being in the same region. For example, in the Galar Pokedex, it states that Seismitoad and Toxicroak are related species. In the Alola Pokedex, it's revealed that Pinsir and Heracross aren't actually rivals, but both have a common enemy in Vikavolt. Rhyperior is a Pokemon that sometimes usually fires Geodude out of its arms. But in Galar, since Geodude isn't in the Galar dex, it says it fires Roggenrola instead. Corviknight and Skarmory and Centiskorch and Scolipede are revealed to be rivals who fight viciously over territory. I think the dex cut in Gen 8 has brought new light into some Pokedex entries as well as the Gen 7 Alola dex where only Pokemon from Alola had dex entries but everyone else was still transferrable. Ash’s Oshawatt is just a Pokémon version of Brock Posted: 29 Aug 2020 01:46 PM PDT Think about . Oshawatt always gets all lovey-dovey around any female Pokémon like Osharina ( In Crowning The Scalchop King !) And Cinncino ( same episode) . Although Oshawatt isn't the smartest of Ash's Pokémon it does know when it's at a disadvantage and will run back to its Pokéball . [link] [comments] |
Champion Movesets of Generation I and II Posted: 30 Aug 2020 04:40 AM PDT As of Generation 4, Trainer Pokemon have their movesets chosen from a wider variety of places than their level-up movepool. This was a fact I knew for a long time, but only today did it occur to me that the opposite was true- that Generation 3 trainers and before would have plain level up sets. And so, recalling that Champion Blue's moves are awful, I checked them all to see if they are the moves you'd expect them to learn from the Day Care. They all are, except Pidgeot, who lost Agility to learn Sky Attack by TM. Even Exeggutor and Arcanine, who learn their base moves and don't remember any moves from their time as Exeggcute and Growlithe. I'm both surprised and not, mostly because of that one TM. Not sure when someone stepped in to add that and why they only added that. I also checked the Champion sets for Lance and Red, and all of them are using TMs, moves from elsewhere in the level up movepool, or even fancier moves- Red's Pikachu learned Charm as a Pichu, Red's Espeon learned Reflect in Generation I, and Lance's Aerodactyl learned Rock Slide by cheating. Kinda nice they started with at least the Champions, but I'm not sure how far that trickles down until the aforementioned Gen IV and the near-omnipresence of movesets with actual thought. My Fiance started drawing Pokemon for her neice Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:17 AM PDT My lovely fiance drew several pokemon for her ***nephew (I messed up the title there lol). She's just starting out but I think it came out really well. [link] [comments] |
Why didn't Pokemon grow up with us? Posted: 30 Aug 2020 06:35 AM PDT I've loved pokemon since the very beginning, played red to death and played many of the others. The one thing I find disappointing is that Pokemon never grew up with me as in the series never matured. The Harry Potter series grew up with each book in line with the children reading it, i would even say that the dragon ball series also grew up. I would love to see the pokemon series maybe re invent themselves and try a more mature game and storyline. [link] [comments] |
I Really wouldn't mind a pokemon game that is all just one giant wild area sandbox Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:38 AM PDT Like a whole game is just one giant wild area sandbox, and that's all you do, there doesn't even need to be a giant narrative about truth or ideals, or some plot about destroying the region with the power of (insert box art legendary here), besides giving player an endgame goal, like be champion or beat bad guy and maybe catch them all, there doesn't even need to be a rival/human companion either, unless the rival itself is the actual endgame like leon or blue. This game is pretty much a giant wild area with the breath of the wild structure. [link] [comments] |
People that think swsh is a good game, why? Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:12 AM PDT I'd say for swsh, you either hate it or you love it. For those of you that love it, why? I'm genuinely curious about your perspective on the game. First of the game is 80 CAD and thats expensive. Not to mention its considered an A list switch game up there with botw and mario odyssey. Imo the main problem is that the game simply is not worth the money. the more glaring issues to me 1. The wild area looks and feels incomplete. Seems like you have to buy it from the dlc 2. You have to pay if you want to catch the added pokemon on your own (and thats what makes it fun) 3. Nonexistant post game. Again, seems like you have to buy it now. And for the more petty issues - pokemon animations are exactly the same - story was boring - the level candies are too common but thats just my own self control Things I thought were good are - locations everywhere but the wild area looks nice - character model looks nice [link] [comments] |

Poem About Choosing Your Starter Pokemon Posted: 30 Aug 2020 11:05 AM PDT Context: I took a creative writing class at my college last spring and the second half of the class was poetry. We were supposed to do something with sound play and I decided to write one about choosing your starter pokemon. The Adventure Begins if you think you can stand the heat jump the gun and light the pyre lots of flaming friends to meet so step on up and choose fire but if you'd rather sail the sea come make your world a little broader to join the surfing with unrivaled glee make sure your partner is water or perhaps you prefer beautiful flowers or like a creature with a bit more sass or want other to forget your power well then, my friend, you were made for grass amazing adventures out there await the story is yours so don't hesitate [link] [comments] |
What if mimikyu is just an ( hidden) eeveelution.. Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:07 AM PDT Let's say mimikyu is an eeveelution considering Pikachu was always the most loved mascotte and eevee being forever second to Pikachu maybe his hatred for Pikachu evolved him into mimikyu he is the evolution pokemon after all... Also the real mimikyu form barely shown in the anime looks like a creature with 4 legs... Also there isn't any ghost eeveelution! [link] [comments] |
I've been replaying Platinum lately, and was taken back at how difficult it feels. Posted: 29 Aug 2020 09:51 PM PDT I haven't played Gen 4 since I played Diamond (and later Platinum) when they came out. I recently decided to play through the generation that I started into the Pokemon franchise with. I skipped Diamond/Pearl, and went straight to Platinum, and am constantly taken back at how difficult it feels. For example, I make it a policy to not avoid battles against trainers, even going out of my way to battle every trainer in a gym or enemy base. Yet when I battled the third gym earlier (the ghost one), I barely escaped with my life. Fantina would wipe out any Pokemon I had with one shadow ball, and I only survived because my Ponyta applied a burn to her final Pokemon, and I managed to stall a little bit with Togepi. She was only a few levels higher than me, and I crawled away, heavily injured, but victorious. It was about what I expected when I realized the only anti-ghost move I had was Luxio's bite (which I only remembered halfway through the gym leader fight). Then, not 10 minutes after healing, and continuing forth on my journey, I run into Barry. I don't know how I managed to prevent him from curb-stomping me, but all of his Pokemon were two to three levels higher than mine, except for his starter, which was a full seven (7?!) levels higher than mine. Again, Togepi brought me to victory, by managing to put his starter to sleep to allow Ponyta to defeat his Monferno, and then burn up his Roselia. Even when I'd grind for 5 to 10 levels, everyone, including wild Pokemon, seemed to be 5 levels higher than me. Maybe I've grown soft in the years of playing the most recent Pokemon games, where I'd find myself 10 levels higher than everyone, and could wipe everything out with type-effective moves. I thought Gen 2 was the toughest, yet it almost feels like a breeze compared to Platinum. Although, despite my complaints, I do very much enjoy the challenge. It's kinda thrilling surviving by the skin of my teeth. I often think back to 10 year old me playing this, wondering how on Earth he managed to beat it without these tough battles ingrained in his memory. And while I'm here, I should ask; Anyone got any tips on best places to grind around the third gym (the one in Hearthome)? Maybe the best trainers to continuously battle to grind several levels for each of my team-members? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Aug 2020 10:01 AM PDT I personally always choose Squirtle if I'm ever replaying a generation one game or an option lets me choose a Kanto starter, I just have many fond memories of Blastoise beating Charizard and Venasuar trainers back in grade school so Squirtle would always win if I can choose a Kanto starter. Think of a Dual-type Pokemon... Now think of one of its types... Posted: 29 Aug 2020 11:44 PM PDT Which was the first type that came to your mind? Did it turn out to be its primary type or its secondary type? Basically I thought of this because it seems like some Pokemon, while dual-typed, appear far more associated with one of its types first while the other type is rarely brought up. Like Onix and Geodude are probably more well-known for their presence in, say, Brock's and Roark's Rock teams, than in Clay's (Black 2 Challenge Mode) and Bertha's Ground teams respectively. More flagrantly, Normal/Flying types are almost always used by Flying type specialists and almost never by Normal type specialists, even though Flying is the secondary type... I don't think I am the only one who thought this, right? [link] [comments] |
Ghetsis and Lusamine are the scariest Pokemon villains Posted: 30 Aug 2020 11:34 AM PDT So a little bit about me. I've suffered a great deal of trauma because of my mom, who's a lot like Lusamine. Controlling and manipulative AF who presents this perfect, self sacrificing image to everyone else. I don't get easily triggered by stuff, but Lusamine and Ghetsis scared the hell out of me because they aren't over the top villains, they're just abusive parents with actual power in the world that present a perfect, "oh they'd never do that" image. Like...fuck. [link] [comments] |
What would Game Freak "innovating on the formula" look like to you? Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:34 AM PDT I think it's fair to say that one of the biggest criticisms levelled against the Pokemon series is that the main series has become formulaic. Despite adding new Pokemon, some new gameplay mechanics and improvements to graphics there is very little to distinguish one mainline Pokemon game from another. They all play almost identical to one another and as time goes on more and more of the fans keep urging Game Freak to "innovate on the formula" and bring something new to the franchise. What I've always struggled with is understanding what exactly "innovating on the formula" actually means when it comes to the Pokemon franchise, especially the mainline games. There are plenty of spin-off games that offer new experiences for players of all ages but it seems a lot of people want this same sort of innovation applied to the mainline games as well. What I'm wondering is what does "innovating on the formula" mean to you? What can or should Game Freak do to keep the mainline Pokemon games fresh and fun for new and longtime fans of the franchise? Some common ideas I see thrown around are people saying they want a completely open world (a la Breath of the Wild) with Pokemon in the overworld; or people who want turn-based battles replaced with real-time combat. Would changing something as simple as that be enough for you or do Game Freak need to do more to innovate and experiment with the formula? [link] [comments] |
Today I've done a regrettable mistake and I regret it deeply. Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:19 PM PDT So today I was just spamming the Surprise trade in Pokemon SW and SD, I was just going through my boxes and Trying to trade off some Pokemon I didn't need. I was then called to go do something for my father which meant I had to put the controller down. Little did I know, my little brother came in my room and traded all my very rare Pokemon away, even this shiny Dracovish that my friend gave to me before moving to a different country. When I came back, I was extremely sad at what I saw, all of them traded away. I couldn't care for all the other Pokemon, but that one Dracovish is what made me very sad, my friend especially told me to keep it for him when he returns one day. Now I wish I never stepped away from my Controller. I know I sound like an absolute scumbag, but I need help with this, I don't want to tell him that his precious Dracovish was traded away just because my brother did it for God knows why... Update: CRISIS AVERTED. The Dracovish I accidentally gave away has been taken care of thanks to u/Dedennecheese for helping me replace the shiny, I don't care for the others knowing that Dracovish is back, but if you're still hooked on restoring the other 3, it's up to you, convince me... I'm making this poll to see what the community thinks which gen 5 pokemon deserve these battle forms. All of these mons in the poll below are chosen by me so sorry if one of your favourite's aren't here. [link] [comments] |
The Greatest Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Game of All Time? Posted: 30 Aug 2020 06:12 AM PDT Hey everyone! I do apologize, but I almost forgot about this spinoff series that actually has existed before, during elementary school as well. I personally have never played these games, but they're called Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. I recently picked up both Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time and Darkness. Never played or touched any of the other games, not even Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX on Nintendo Switch. But just to get a better feel of which Pokémon mystery dungeon game is great, I wanna know what you guys think. Which Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game should I rather begin first/play more? Posted: 30 Aug 2020 10:33 AM PDT I am doing a bracket like thing, in which I am putting two generations up against eachother in twos, and I will be doing this until I get down to the final two gens that the community has chosen. DISCLAIMER - this does not mean one of these two has to be your favorite generation. Simply choose which one you prefer. [link] [comments] |
Can you trade from a Flash cart to an original cartridge? Posted: 30 Aug 2020 10:07 AM PDT Im hoping to buy red and blue for the sake of catching them all on the original gameboy, but if I want all 3 starters without resetting a save file, do I have to buy an authentic yellow cart? Or can I use a GBC Flash cart with yellow? Will the trade work? [link] [comments] |
