Dark Theory Surrounding Taaban - Shellder's Alternate Gold & Silver Beta Evolution

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 04:59 AM PDT

When the leak for the Gold & Silver beta occurred we got to see Shellder's alternate beta evolution - Taaban in all its glory.

It appears to be the form Shellder takes after biting onto Slowpoke's tail or head (or arm if it's Galarian Slowpoke) making it evolve into Slowpoke's respective evolution lines - Slowbro & Slowking.

As for Taaban, however, it looked to be its own split evolution line for Shellder, away from Slowpoke and its evolutions.

But the next question is how Shellder would have evolved into Taaban and become it's own evolution line? Well this is where it gets dark!

As it stands, in the story of Gold & Silver there's a small subplot where a revived Team Rocket has taken over the Slowpoke Well located east of Azalea Town with plans to cut off Slowpoke tails and sell them for profit.

As it turns out, this is not an uncommon thing to do in the Pokémon world as Slowpoke tails are considered to be a rare delicacy and later on in the game there's a shop in Mahogany town that sells Slowpoke Tails as an item. This item, however, has no in-game use other than to be bought or sold at an expensive price.

And this is where Shellder comes back into the fold... It's my theory that the Slowpoke Tail was originally going to be an evolutionary item for Shellder by having it devour the Slowpoke Tail and making it evolve thinking there was a Slowpoke on the other end but since there wasn't one it would just evolve into Taaban instead.

I can see why Game Freak ultimately ditched Taaban as split evolution to Shellder as the idea of cutting off a Pokémon's body parts just to evolve another is pretty grim in itself and would be considered as animal cruelty.

I will note that the Slowpoke Tail item was in the code for HGSS remakes but wasn't accessible as its purpose was effectively useless at that point.

Any thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Tl:dr The Slowpoke Tail item in GS was originally an evolutionary item that evolved Shellder into Taaban.

Yo how good is that Pokemon Healthcare system tho

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 11:41 AM PDT

Trainers are able to go & get there Pokémon attended to at a hospital without having to pay anything: Not only do they get free medical attention but they also get free bedrooms to sleep in & free food as well.

This was just a random thought but I am curious to hear your guys' opinions & thoughts on the Healthcare in the Pokémon world

Is bulbapedia trying to sweep the controversy under the rug?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 04:06 AM PDT

    https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pokémon_Sword_and_Shield#

In the "reception" tab in the Sword and Shield article there's no mention of the controversy, game freak's lies/misinformation, "dexit" or even a mention of the super low user score on metacritic. Doesn't that look kinda... disingenuous?

Where do you hope the next Pokemon game takes us, in terms of Region inspiration?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 06:55 AM PDT

Personally, I think it would be a blast to explore the Southwest United States, maybe even dipping into Mexico, and up into Canada.

Moreover, I would love to have an overall "retro 50's" sort of vibe, with drive-in diners and theaters, soda shops, that sort of thing. Maybe a "Roswell/Area 51" sort of area, where you could find some of the more space-themed Psychic types.

You'd have the desert climate of the aforementioned Roswell type area, maybe half the map would have you traveling up the coast, from warm sandy beaches up through redwood forests, and finally maybe a snowy, Vancouver-in-winter sort of climate?

I've spent a lot of time thinking about it, obviously. In my head, it seems like it would be an awesome fit! But maybe it doesn't sound so compelling to others?

Admittedly, I'm a bit bummed that Alola didn't feel as fully-realized as it could have been. I loved the "vibe" of that region, and hope we get a chance to revisit it one day!

What about you guys? What sort of Region would you like to see next?

Many pokemon have existed through the years but some do not get as much love as others, and this post is for those pokemon. Discuss ways to give some love to those forgotten or unloved mons

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:20 AM PDT

I will say Carbink. Carbink is a example of a pokemon that people only remember because of the legendary association it has. What would help this species is if they got a variant of some kind and my idea for one? One based upon the Dresden Green Diamond, a diamond that is green due to natural exposure to radioactive materials. A rock/poison type with poison point or maybe corrosion would make this mon quite unique

Whats the best way to experience each generation/story/region?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 06:27 AM PDT

Since pokemon has alot of remakes now, what in your opinion is the best way to experience each generations story? For games like Black and white its easy since it has no remakes and BW2 is its own story. But generations like kanto with its bajillion remakes i don't know which game i play would give me the ''complete'' experience.

Help! 2nd Grade Pokémon club and no idea what I’m doing

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 09:48 PM PDT

I have a Pokémon club of 5-9 year olds and they are all crazy about Pokémon cards. I know nothing about the card game- where is a good place to get cards? Do they come in bulk? Am I better off getting packs on amazon or buying big lots on ebay? Are there sets to avoid? Is this the right place to post this? I don't necessarily plan on playing it, I just want cards the kids will get a kick out of. First meeting was this week and I'm completely lost. Maybe do an opening of a couple packs each week during the club meeting? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Lavender Town Theme (12 Hours) - Pokemon G/S/C - Watch the sun slowly rise and set over this ghostly town... [OC]

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 04:27 AM PDT

    Here it is!

    https://youtu.be/Op9iSmAZaMc

Two images of Lavender Town that were used in this video weren't readily available on the internet, and so it took me a little extra work to put this one together vs. other looped videos of mine.

This is more information that I have in the video's description:

This is from the 2nd generation of the Pokemon games, and it sounds like a more peaceful version of the infamous Lavender Town theme from the first generation. Watch 60 days pass through the town...

I couldn't find the maps for the Morning and Night versions of Lavender Town, and so I recreated all of them (Morning, Day, Night) by screenshotting the town using a GBA simulator and compositing them into maps.

    Pokemon Types Discussion

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 08:12 AM PDT

So I was thinking about type matchups and quite a few questions and head scratchers popped up.

    1. Why can Normal Type moves can hit fire or any of the elemental Types? Like have you ever actually bodyslamed or tackled a real fire or poison or lightning?

    2. Why isn't Ghost and Ground Types not immune to each other?

    3. How are Poison and Bug Types not either Neutral or Super Effective against each other? ( the number 1 killer of bugs is poison, but also bugs carry and eat poison)

    4. How is Electric Type not Super Effective against Grass Type? (Trees are apart of the Grass Type and are killed by lightning all the time, not to mention the crop damage as well)

    5. How are Psychic Moves effective against Ground and Rock Types but Not Very Effective against Steel Type?

    6. Why is Bug Type Super Effective against Psychic and Dark Types?

    7. Why is Steel Type immune to Poison Type? (Acid burns through steel and other metals)

There are more, but I want to hear your thoughts on this topic. What Moves or Typing problems do you have? Any suggestions as how to make them better?

Please remember to be respectful and don't be rude.

    Thank you.

Playing Pokémon Shield for the first time, is the entire game this hand-holdy?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 09:14 AM PDT

I've just made it to the first gym, and throughout my entire journey here, it's felt like I can't take 3 steps without someone interrupting me to take me through a cutscene or tell me what to do next. Way too many breaks in the action when I'm just trying to play the game.

I haven't played a Pokémon game since Diamond, so not sure if that's just how the games are now. If so it's pretty annoying.
