This week's Pokemon is Cofagrigus!

#563 Cofagrigus (Japanese デスカーン Desukarn)

Coffin Pokémon

This Pokémon has a body of sparkling gold. People say it no longer remembers that it was once human. There are many depictions of Cofagrigus decorating ancient tombs. They're symbols of the wealth that kings of bygone eras had.

Cofagrigus's Base Stats:

HP: 58
Attack: 50
Defense: 145
Sp. Attack: 95
Sp. Defense: 105
Speed: 30

Introduction:

Cofagrigus likes to eat gold.

It also likes to eat physical attacks, as its beefy defense stat and Ghost typing make it a decent wall. With a decent special attack stat as well, and a nifty ability that shuts down ability-based Pokemon, Cofagrigus has a decent bit of wealth stored away in its sarcophagus.

Usually ran as either a Trick Room / Nasty Plot sweeper or a defensive wall, Cofagrigus can be incredibly dangerous in warped dimensions, and when allowed to set up, its boosted Shadow Ball can be devastating.

However, even in Gen 5, it was outclassed by other ghosts such as Jellicent and Sableye, and its role as a Mummy user first and foremost was a niche role that not many people utilized. It saw more play in Gen 6 with the addition of megas and ability-reliant physical fighters such as Mega Medicham, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Mawile.

In Gen 8, Cofagrigus got bullied into NU, and that is where it confortably sits.
