    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 07:49 AM PST

Did you finally beat Cynthia and her Garchomp from hell? Here's a list of things for you to do!

    1. Complete Your Sinnoh Dex
Assuming that you haven't skipped any trainers, the only Pokemon that you'll need to complete your dex are Manaphy if you haven't gone to the Pokemon Mansion and Rotom if you haven't gone to the Old Chateau. They're both easy to get. You can get Manaphy registered in your dex by reading a book located in the office of Mr. Backlot and Rotom can be found in the Old Chateau in the room with the TV in the evening, remember to interact with the TV - Rotom isn't in the Overworld.

    2. A Whole New Island
After you complete your Sinnoh Dex and get the National Dex from Rowan, fly to and talk to the sailor outside the city. He will take you to the Battle Area. After you battle Volkner and Flint with Barry, the Frontier will be unlocked and you can enter. The Survival Area and the Resort Area will be unlocked, but ignore them for now and head straight to Stark Mountain. Complete the story there and go back to the Survival Area. You will see Buck in front of the Battleground, which is now accessible. There, you can fight Barry and the Gym Leaders. The Resort area is pretty pointless, but it's a good place to farm berries. Here are some things to do in the Battle Tower:
Defeat Tower Tycoon Palmer once to earn a Silver Print
Defeat Factory Head Thorton once to earn a Silver Print
Defeat Arcade Star Dahlia once to earn a Silver Print
Defeat Castle Valet Darach once to earn a Silver Print
Defeat Hall Matron Argenta once to earn a Silver Print
Defeat everyone above a second time to earn 5 Gold Prints

    3. Hunt The Legendaries Down
After you've done all that stuff, it's time to return to the main island. Here are the locations of all accessible legendary Pokemon in the game:

Uxie and Azelf: Lake Acuity & Valor Cavern
Uxie is overworld spawn in the middle of Lake Acuity. Interact with it to battle it. Azelf is also a overworld spawn, but in the middle of Lake Valor. Interact with it to battle it.

    Mesprit: Lake Verity Cavern
Mesprit is a overworld spawn in the middle of Lake Verity, interacting with it causes it to flee. You can now hunt it down with the Marking Map app.

    Heatran: Stark Mountain
Heatran is a overworld spawn in the cave where Charon was arrested. Interact with it to battle it.

    Shaymin: Flower Paradise
Shaymin is a event overworld spawn in the Flower Paradise. To get it, you'll need Oak's Letter, an event item. Travel back into the Victory Road and go find the cave entrance that was previously blocked by a fat man. You will find Marley there. Travel through the cave and the routes until you see Oak next to a stone tablet. Complete the story events and eventually you'll find Shaymin. Interact with it to battle it.

    Cresselia: Fullmoon Island
Cresselia is a overworld spawn in Fullmoon Island, to get there, head to Canalave City and talk to the Sailor who took you to Iron Island earlier. He will now take you to Fullmoon Island where you can interact with Cresselia. It will flee and you can now hunt it down with the Marking Map app.

    Darkrai: Newmoon Island
Darkrai is a event overworld spawn in Newmoon Island. To get it, you'll need the Member's Card, an event item. Head to the building above the Canalave Pokemon Center and go inside it. Sleep in the bed and you'll be teleported to Newmoon Island. Find Darkrai and interact with it to battle it.

    Dialga & Palkia: Spear Pillar
Both are overworld spawns. First, talk to Cynthia's Grandmother in Celestic Town, go grab the Adamant and Lustrous Orbs inside Mt. Coronet and head to the Spear Pillar. Dialga's portal will appear and you can interact with the rift to battle Dialga. After Dialga is captured or defeated, leave Spear Pillar and reenter it. Palkia's portal will appear and you can interact with the rift to battle it.

    Legendary Birds: Roaming
After the National Dex is completed, go talk to Professor Oak, who lives in Eterna City. He will give you a Up-Grade and tell you about the legendary birds. Afterwards, the birds will now be roaming and you can now hunt them down with the Marking Map app.

    The Regis: Multiple Locations
First, collect the event Regigigas from the PokeMart mailman. The regis will now be obtainable in the following locations:
Regice: Mt. Coronet (East of Rt. 216)
    Regirock: Rt. 226
    Registeel: Iron Island
After all three are captured, head to Snowpoint Temple, which is now accessible. Complete the puzzles inside and capture Regigigas.

    Arceus: Spear Pillar
Arceus is a event overworld spawn on Spear Pillar. It is unobtainable in legitimate games. If a Azure Flute is hacked into the games with a AR code, head to Spear Pillar and you will be asked to blow the flute, blow it and a staircase will appear. You can catch Arceus on top of it.

    1. Beat the League Rematches
The rematches are unlocked after you get the National Dex. By this time, they have Pokemon in the level 70s, so make sure to grind up. The teams remain unchanged. Cynthia's Garchomp is level 78, so make sure you're prepared!

    2. Get the Ultimate Black Trainer Card
This is your final quest on your great journey. To get this special trainer card, you need to:
      Defeat the League Rematches
Win At Least 1 Master Rank Super Contest
Play At Least 1 Online Underground Capture the Flag Match
      Complete the National Dex
Earn 100 Wins in the Battle Tower

If you've completed all of these quests, then congratulations! You have now completely completed Pokemon Platinum. I hope you had fun! It's time for some shiny hunting.
Note: The quests above don't have to be completed in numerical order, but I recommend you do it in that order.

This took pretty long to make, I hope you liked it.

Edit: Through popular demand, the next post will be on HG/SS. Stay tuned!

Have I been saying “Delibird” incorrectly my whole life?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 04:00 PM PST

Everyone I know (including myself) pronounced "Delibird" as Deli (like meat) + Bird. I was getting into Pokémon name etymology with some of my friends and I questioned Delibird. Clearly it comes as some sort of delivery bird and that's when it hit me. The word "delivered." Delibird is just a play on the word "Delivered" and was likely meant to be pronounced the same way.

Does anyone pronounce this Pokémon this way? Is this normal train of thought and I've been sleeping under a rock this whole time?? Or are we all just going to agree to keep treating it's name like our favorite local sandwich shop and call him deli-bird?

    Funniest Smogon Pokémon Strategy Pages?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 06:47 AM PST

Saw the Delibird post and it reminded me of all the golden Pokémon strategy satire entries Smogon's writers have released over the years. They're so hard to recall tho. What are some of the great entries? I haven't really followed competitive since Gen V so I'm sure I'm missing out on a few gems.

    Also thank you Smogon.

Pokemon Sword and Shield: Which new Galar Pokemon have you used?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 09:56 AM PST

So, I've been curious recently to see which is the most and least used Pokemon in the new games. While I realise that not everybody can remember all of the Pokemon they've used, I still think it'd be interesting to see.

For this survey, I'm just looking to see which Pokemon you have willingly used. So, please don't count things like challenge runs where you're forced to use certain Pokemon. Competitive can count though. I'll make a results post after 48 hours have passed. Thanks for doing it.

    Imagine This.

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 12:34 AM PST

Imagine this You're trying to catch a legendary pokemon and, after an hour of throwing ultra balls, you only have two pokeballs left, a regular Pokeball and a quick ball "no big deal." you think. "I saved before the fight... I think..." now you're wondering if you remembered to save your game. The panic sets in as you think that you might have wasted an hour of your life. You look into your bag, putting what little hope you have into the pokeballs first without thinking you use the regular Pokeball... it fails... now you think failure is inevitable, next to the quick ball 1 shake... 2 shakes... 3 shakes... Click. By some extremely lucky miracle, you caught the legendary pokemon.

Love the Switch, but disappointed there's no 3DS emulator. Is it worth getting a 3DS just to play the 3DS Pokemon games?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 10:35 AM PST

The last Pokemon games I played were Diamond/Pearl back in 2007, and I have an itching to jump back in the series. I heard Sword and Shield suck, and I missed all the games in between.

Is it worth getting a 3DS just for XY/SM/ORAS? Is the online still active?

    Thanks!

Today I’m going to purchase a Nintendo D.S and a Pokémon game. Which one should I get?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 06:48 AM PST

I've played games from the first four generations. I was VERY into Pokémon when I was younger, and am this very familiar with the first four generations. My favorite was always the 3rd generation, but I never got to play any of those games.

I'm not a fan of too many of the newer gimmicks, such as Z moves and mega evolution. I'm also open to playing games from a generation that I know nothing about.

    What would you recommend?

Unpopular (I think) Opinion:some Pokémon designs are worsened by showing/having a mouth

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 07:18 PM PST

This sounds like a nitpick, and by Arceus it is, but it's something I haven't ever expressed, so here it is. See you next week for my "why some specific Pokémon have dumb gender ratios" essay (jk).

I like the designs of Grapploct, Heatran, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, and Kyogre...when their mouths are closed. When they open up though, they just look so weird, and not in a cool way.

The Sinnoh box legendaries and Grapploct have these weird muppet-ish mouths that offset their intimidating face, feel tacked on, and makes them look just plain silly, especially Giratina and Grapploct.

Kyogre just has this wide, thin, small-fanged mouth that just makes them look dopey, when before they look a lot more godly.

Heatran is the biggest offender here, as it looks a bit cute, but mostly fearsome with it's jaw closed, but then it's jaw opens to reveal a mouth that looks way too big and oafish, with really-goofy "teeth" as well, that worked better connected to it's top-half.

There's probably some other Pokémon that also have these problems, but these are the ones I can recall easily, and I'm not a fan of those jaws, to say the least. Thankfully, the only Pokémon that was outright ruined to me by this is Heatran, and even I have to admit there was likely no way around it, and there's probably a good reason it looks like that, but I still don't like it's black hole of a mouth.

What are some of your most unpopular Pokémon opinions?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 07:07 PM PST

Patterrz recently did a video about this and it inspired me to ask you guys the same question. I want to know what your most unpopular opinions about the Pokémon franchise. By that, I mean a REALLY unpopular opinion. Think of one that would really make some people here mad.

Here's mine: Mega Evolution is overrated and I prefer Dynamaxing due to its larger scale.

[THEORY] Eternatus is an ultra beast

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 04:36 AM PST

So this thought randomly pops in my head from time to time so im putting it on reddit so you know at the end of all the ultra beast cries theres like a sort of like shimmer type noise well recently i realised eternatus has a kind of like ultra bigger version of that shimmer so yea thats pretty much it i know this is kind of anti climatic but yea. Also the design for eternatus is kind of ultra beasty and because of how strong it is eternamaxed so yea if it is an ultra beast it would probably be like the arceus of the ultra dimension

What is you guys opinion on Blaziken?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 08:20 AM PST

Pokemon Emerald was the first game I played in my life(if you will ignore those games in cell phone) and though it was my brothers saved file,it was fun playing with Blaziken. It's design is cool at least in the eyes of a 6 year old and man it hits hard.Well black and white did a lot of justice and Game freak gave it of all starters a good priority in throwing out the new mega evolution.

Criticism was seen in a great deal for Blaziken but no matter what it is my favourite pokemon and a deep nostalgic memory.

Would you play a game that focused on Contests instead of battling?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 09:16 AM PST

I've always enjoyed the Pokemon Contests in the anime and in the games they were part of. However, since they were basically just optional side-quest/side-mission things, they never really had the sort of depth or complexity and reward that they had in the shows.

I really think a game where you focused just on creating move combinations and presentation, and even could create routines to play out with your Pokemon, would be a cool idea. It would be a nice break from the typical "build a team, train it, get badges and become Champion" formula. And it could give players a reason to use and appreciation for Pokemon that are not great from a battling perspective, allowing them to work with Pokemon they might not use otherwise aside from catching them and throwing them in the PC forever.

And imagine if there was a competitive scene for Pokemon Contests like there is for battling! It could really allow people to show off different types of creativity and design. They've already strayed from the formula before in side games like Pokemon Ranger, so I don't see why something like this would be impossible or implausible. And I think it has a lot of potential for popularity and could become really successful if done right.

    What do you think?

If something like this was created, do you think it would be successful? Would you play it and get into it?

Thinking of fake signature Pokémon moves, day 95: Politoed

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 05:35 AM PST

I am coming up with at least 1 fake move that would be exclusive to 1 Pokémon or an evolutionary line of Pokémon. I am going in Pokédex order, and I will skip every Pokémon or evolutionary line that already has a Pokémon in it that has a signature move. Signature Z-moves or G-Max moves don't count.

Politoed's move is called Liquid Slide, a Water-Type Physical move with 90 base power, 100% accuracy, 15 PP and 40% chance to raise the user's Speed by 1 stage. If Surf was used prior to this move, its base power doubles.

I made this move for Politoed because I just feel like it fits Politoed. The user creates a stream of water on the floor and the slides on it, into the target. The reason this move is 100% accurate is because this move covers the entire floor of the field in a layer of water that quickly evaporates, so it doesn't have an effect like Water Sport as well. I guess you could compare this move to an Ice-Type Pokémon ice skating. The reason for this move's potential Speed boost is because sliding on the water makes you go quite fast. This isn't always permanent but it could be.

Now, I know what you're thinking. Yes, Politoed gets Water Absorb, doesn't that make it very overpowered in double battles with another Pokémon that can use Surf? No, because if Politoed has Water Absorb, it doesn't just absorb a bit of the attack from Surf, it also absorbs the leftover water on the ground that it would otherwise use to double the damage output from this move. So unless the Politoed has Damp or Drizzle, this move won't be twice as powerful after Surf was used on the same turn. I hope this makes sense.

I'd love to hear feedback or questions about my ideas, and if you have any ideas for signature moves for Pokémon, I'd love to hear them, I might use the ideas (with your consent of course)! Even though this is a daily thing, or at least, I'll try to keep it daily, I don't think I'll be consistent with the time of day I post another idea.

Here's my collection of Pokemon marbles from back in the day. Probably from 2000 or 2001. I was wondering if anyone had a guide on these to determine rarity or value or anything along those lines. I know that the stars mean its first edition but that's all I know in terms of rarity. Thanks.

    My headcanon

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 06:38 AM PST

The Pokémon universe is an alternate version of our universe. Same history, but at some point in time Pokémon arrived from another world. They're aliens. They evolved (as in "regular" evolution) to look more like Earth creatures to not stand out as much. Everything was pretty much the same as irl otherwise, besides events mentioned in the games. Then a war broke out, possibly an extension of WW2 due to Pokémon existing in that reality. War ends with the entire world in ruins. Starting in Japan, a new Pokémon world is started, with the country split up into regions, with the Kanto region remaining from the original Japan. This is then done in the rest of the world as well. Famous landmarks destroyed during the war are replaced with modern, similar structures, explaining all references to real world locations. I also think Mew may have been discovered before the new world was created, since the journals mention it being discovered in Guyana.

Such a shame that people need to steal, even in a game with such a giving community.. I just started playing Pokémon again, transitioning from tcgo back to the hand held game(switch now a days). I will forever remember this day.. Darthvenatus, please stop scamming before karma takes its toll. Will Gen 4 Remakes Bring Back Megas or Keep Dynamax? What Can Gamefreak Do To Make The Next Games Better?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 11:37 AM PST

I really hope the excuse of "they were rushed because next gen" is true as others claimed with the X/Y games. It's not even so much the graphics I am crazy about, it's more the super robotic and lack of expression from characters but also I understand it's "just Pokemon" to an extent and I did still enjoy Sword and Shield, I just really wanna see Game Freak level up with this years project. 🙂

As for Dynamax, the lore behind Eternatus crashing into Galar 20k years ago, then Crown Tundra showing an underground "big wishing piece" (according to Peonia) that draws in legendary Pokemon from every region can set up a decent way to explain how Dynamax Energy got to Galar. I feel as if they do this, the Dynamax energy will travel through the underground tunnels because the meteorite or "big wishing piece" is underground already, but also because Game Freak has spent so much time effort and money promoting online multiplayer with raid battles since Pokemon GO. I know this is a bit extra, and I am all for Megas returning instead, but with all this it isn't unlikely Dynamax is coming back in the case 4th Gen Remakes happen.

Masuda himself claimed in an ORAS interview "nowadays players get bored and frustrated more easily and they aren't interested in things that are so demanding/challenging." Which to me is extremely odd as we all know the pinnacle of video games is most of the time to be challenged, that's why we all fell in love with Pokemon in the first place.

So with all this said, I actually do really enjoy Sword and Shield despite everything, and I enjoy Dynamax as well. As for moving forward, I just hope the 4th gen remakes truly take advantage of the Nintendo Switch hardware, and capture the childhoods of many in full 3D. Pokemon seals, Poffins, the underground, the Great Marsh, the Distortion World, mystery events, and even Driftlibm on Fridays, I want it all and I think if done correctly, I believe these will be the best pokemon games in the series yet.

Anyways, I go over alll this in more detail with pretty editing, it's only like 7 minutes so if you do have the time to check it out, hope u enjoy :)

Can one of these pass for Monke? I really don't have any other options. I've narrowed down all the best Monke vibe candidates for the poll. Here's the rest of Monke troop for the curious:

    -Infernape

    -Primeape

    -Mankey (HM slave)

    -Slaking

    -Ambipom

Hard pass on Vigoroth before someone mentions it. Also yes I'm aware Alakazam is a controversial pick, but I'll endure any burden if it means Monke victory.

I recreated Pokemon Emerald from scratch with a Discord friendly interface

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 03:21 PM PST

Hello Reddit, this is my first Discord bot so please go easy on me! I spent about 2 weeks creating this and it was a lot of fun. Also, no the bot is not available to the public because it does not scale well. I'm running the bot on a local server at home and it doesn't handle more than one user at a time super well (slows down a ton, probably because I used a decent chunk of time.sleep() in Python).

    Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7rX2d7W3XI

    Features include:

    - Exploring the Hoenn Region

    - Wild battles and catching

    - Trainer battles

    - Gym battles

    - Elite 4

    - Shiny hunting

    - Trading

I traded a Dratini and Larvitar from my original save over to my new save so I essentially started with a Totodile, Dratini and Larvitar from day 1. A little bit of a cheat but hey ho 🤣

What’s the most underrated mainline Pokémon game, and why?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2021 12:19 PM PST

    Including sequels and remakes.

For me, I think it's personally Gen 4 (Pokemon Pearl/Diamond/Platinum). I know it's rumoured to be the next remake, but I rarely see it on people's "top" lists, or rarely heard it talked about. Perhaps it is just nostalgia, but it was my first Pokemon game, as my parents couldn't afford to buy me any game boys, and I bought a DS Lite myself with my own birthday money. I played Pearl myself. Sinnoh for life!

I got Pokémon Sun today and my starter turned out shiny!

    Posted: 23 Jan 2021 11:12 AM PST

Today I got a 3ds with Pokémon Sun and a few more games. I started a new game and got Litten as my starter. I wanted to get him since long time ago.

When it was time to name it (didn't nickname it), I noticed my Litten was white, I was a bit confused until I googled it while I was skipping some text from the game and saw it was actually shiny! This is my first starter ever shiny. I had Gyarados from HG/SS and Pichu with Pikachu's color (event), but never my own shiny that was actually a casuality. I once saw a shiny Bibarel, but accidentally killed it sadly.

What was your first shiny? I'm curious to ask if anyone also got randomly one without doing a special technique like soft reset or stuff like that.
