Very straightforward videos showing each Gigantamax Den location without filler content

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 07:49 AM PST

I've created a series of videos showing the den locations for each Gigantamax pokemon. I am aware there are many youtube videos on this topic already, but I really dislike how unnecessarily lengthy many of them are. You know, the sort of video that starts with "HEY WHAT'S UP YOUTUBE" and then takes 5 minutes to get to the actual point. The videos I made simply show where to start and where to go. They're good if you just want the gigantamax location without having to listen to an explanation on how to reroll den spawns for the 50th time. And much easier than trying to determine the location based on a tiny screenshot thumbnail.

Dubwool should have been Normal/Steel. That is all.

    Hey all,

50 word requirement states that I need to buff this a little but COME ON. STEEL. WOOL. It would have been the best evolution for our little Wooloo. Even the evolution we got has the proper colors!

For those unaware, Steel Wool is a scrub brush used for dishes(and many other things).

    Again. Steel wool. That's all.

It bugs me how some people don't see the brilliance of Escavalier and Accelgor's designs

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 09:24 AM PST

I was trading with a friend of mine to evolve Karrablast and Shelmet and they had mentioned to me how Escavalier looks more like it should be Shelmet's evolution and how stupid it was. Looking online it seems like a lot of other people feel the same way.

I pointed out to them how the Karrablast is literally stealing Shelmet's armor mid-trade and how you can see in their designs that Escavalier is just a tiny lil Karrablast in that big armor suit and Accelgor is just a "naked" Shelmet. It blew his mind and he never even noticed.

They're honestly two of my absolute favorite Pokemon designs in the game, such a cool idea.

    C'mon people! Pay attention!

    Discussion: Zamazenta

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:20 PM PST

I really feel like Zamazenta should have been able to learn Kings Shield, or at least have its ability to raise both Def and Sp. Def.

I mean, its kind of unfair how Zacian becomes an instant sweeper with high speed, a powerful ability on top of an already powerful attack stat, and one of the best type combos in the game. Like, Swords Dance, Play Rough, Iron Head, Sacred Sword/Close Combat, easy sweep. It has decent bulk, so getting a swords dance in wont even be that hard.

Sure, yeah, Zamazenta could be used as a wall, but then what? Honestly, it's just a glorified Bastidon, except it can't even learn Toxic.

Finally got to Leon. People won't talk about him the way they do Cynthia because of the controversy surrounding the game, but that dude's team was scary

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 06:46 PM PST

As someone who kept his Pokemon's levels on par with the game's, the sudden jump in level for him caught me off hard.

His Haxorus and Dragapult were scary because of their speed. His Charizard fucked me with Overgrowth when I thought I'd squeezed out the win. Even on my second attempt (I lost the first time) I won by just having his Charizard oneshot my team until Gigantimax ran out.

The difficulty combined with the theme...it was a great champion battle, if nothing else.

Team Yell is probably the only Pokémon bad guy team I would ever join

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 04:18 AM PST

    They are lame

    They are not really villains

    They are just plain annoying

BUT THEY ARE RIGHT! MARNIE IS FREAKING ADORABLE AND DESERVES TO WIN MORE THAN US.

I mean, she is not only trying hard for herself, but to help the bad reputation her village and brother get, she is badass but at the same time she is sweet and kind. Remember that part in the game when she supports you during battles? Every Pokémon game needs that.

So remember, next time you play Pokémon sword and shield, LET MARNIE WIN, it doesn't matter if you get stuck and can't finish the game, live with the satisfaction that Marnie won.

Sincerely, a new member of team Yell

Is it ethical to catch an evolved Pokémon that normally evolves from max friendship/happiness?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 08:50 AM PST

    Picture this -

You're biking around the wild area after coming off a harrowing raid with some close buddies. Pokémon are popping up left and right. Some are running after you. Some are minding their own business. Some are hiding in the grass, hoping you don't run into them. Then you see it...

A wild Espeon is walking around the Lake of Outrage. Your first thought is to catch it. But hold on - it's an Espeon... Don't Eevee's normally evolve into Espeon due to having a high amount of friendship or happiness?

Now it's got you thinking. Now you're faced with a dilemma-

    1. This Espeon evolved from an Eevee in the wild, meaning it was happy with it's Pokémon friends. It had close bonds with others. Catching it means you're taking it away from it's happy little life. It'll never see it's friends again, and if it does, it's because you're using it to wipe them out or force them into a Pokeball. Is this really ethical?
    2. This Espeon was evolved from an Eevee by a trainer, and then dumped into the wild after having a close bond. Who would do such a thing? They are absolute monsters for building that trust, and then destroying it by letting them go. Was it because they wanted a stronger Espeon? Was it because the trainer didn't know about nature mints, and figured the nature was bad so it couldn't be changed? We'll never know. All we know is that Espeon will probably always have trust issues. Do you take it upon yourself to give it a new home, and show it that people can be trusted? Do you then try to catch it and have a close bond?

How does one know what happened to that Espeon for it to have evolved? What is the ethical option?

Rose Tower is the worst location

I liked the Design and environment of the Tower but the construction and layout is terrible.

A Big Elevator where we just fight 3 Battles from Macro Cosmos and then Oleana? We also couldn't explore the area its just an Linear Elevator to the top. In comparison with old team hideouts what where much bigger and have puzzles in it this is a joke.

Unused Dual Typings: What would you like to see?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:05 PM PST

This gen seen Electric/Poison (Toxtricity), Poison/Fairy (G-Weezing), Bug/Psychic (Orbeetle), Bug/Ice (Frosmoth), Fire/Ice (Zen Mode G-Darmanitan), Dark/Fairy (Grimmsnarl), Dark/Electric (Morpeko) get introduced. Before Sword and Shield these were previously unused.

What would you all like to see in the future?

I've created a list of the types and idea of something that I think could work.

Normal/Poison: Normals are hard to dual type because theoretically, if it has another type then what makes it still normal? For these I tried to think of things Pokémon has done in the past for Normal dual types. They're mainly animals that look similar to their real world counterparts. For normal/poison , I think of something like the Slow Loris. It's a poisonous mammal that mixes toxins with it's saliva for a toxic bite.

Normal/Rock: Drawing some inspiration from Sawsbuck I think of something like an Alpine Ibex because of they're excellent climbing skills and the rocky regions they live in.

Normal/Bug: I have no idea here. I know Dunsparce is based off of tsuchinoko, but it looks bug-ish. Maybe a regional form? What about a cockroach? Is that "normal" enough?

Normal/Ghost: This typing could be a bit broken. 3 immunities. Only 1 weakness. I think this could either be an opossum or some sort of cat playing up to the nine lives thing or something.

Normal/Steel: When I thought of this typing a while ago, I thought a sound-based elephant pokémon would have been cool, but now we have Copperajah with a steel typing, but no normal typing with it. In all honesty, any future early route critter could evolve into a steel typing. The same way Bidoof and Bunnelby picked up an extra type.

Normal/Ice: Sticking with an early route mentality that picks up a type, I think an Ermine would be cool. It's a cute fuzzy creature that changes colors in the winter. Would be a cool location based evolution.

Fight/Ground: Design-wise I think a Kangaroo would look cool here, and would fit the fight aesthetic.

Fight/Electric: Should have been Zeraora, but let's pick a new one anyway. We need a Honey Badger pokémon, and I think this would be an awesome typing for it. Fast, angry and ready to fight somebody.

Fight/Fairy: This was a tough one, as fairies in pokémon look contradictory to fighting types. (Side note: Grimmsnarl looks awesome. In the past I thought a Red Cap type dark/fairy would have been awesome, but figured Pokémon wouldn't get that violent. The Impidimp line is awesome though!). For this I could only think of something based off of Oberon, King of the Fairies. I'm sure Pokémon would think of something cooler though. This typing would probably be a Legendary.

Poison/Steel: Well, we have a sentient cogs, keys, and magents. Is a poison tipped arrow to far fetched? I got nothing much outside of this... a rusty nail? lol

Poison/Psychic: The Colorado River Toad has glands that produces poison that have hallucinogenic effects. From the wiki: " A single deep inhalation of the venom produces strong psychoactive effect within 15 seconds." Sounds like a good Poison/Psychic type to me.

Poison/Ice: Middle ages believed Narwhal horns to be unicorn horns and would drink from them to cure poisons. Let's flip it on its head and give it the poison type. This is mostly my excuse to get a Narwhal pokémon.

Ground/Fairy: I got nothing fancy here. I think of a pokémon like Celebi (who should be fairy). Some sort of earth fairy, protector of the land.

Rock/Ghost: I love sugar skulls and I think a sugar skull inspired pokémon could fit this typing.

Bug/Dragon: Yanmega. Maybe there's some other Dragonfly species out there they could use.

Bug/Dark: Black Spitting Scorpion. I mean look at this thing. How is that thing not a dark type.

Fire/Grass: A jalapeno. I want this to be a thing so bad. Maybe, if we ever get a Mexico region.

Fire/Fairy: I know it's already a move, but a Will O the Wisp type pokémon makes the most sense here.

Electric/Dark: Luxray. I used to think a porcupine type pokémon, but I think with Pincurchin being around I doubt we'd get another pokey electric pokémon. EDIT: Forgot about Morpeko. This type is covered.

I'd like to hear what you all would like to see. I'm sure there's some great ideas out there.

Edit: Definitely feel free to discuss rare typings that don't have good representation either because it's stuck to a mythical, regional variant, mega, or things locked behind a zen mode. I just didn't put these in the original post because I didn't want to keep rambling. Here's a list of typings by abundance https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_type_combinations_by_abundance

Having an opinion should not cost 60 dollars

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 02:27 AM PST

One of the most commonly uttered phrases I hear most often when someone criticizes Sword and Shield is "You haven't played it". Now, this would be a perfectly valid response, right? Don't knock it 'till you try it and whatever. However, I think it is a very old fashioned and simple minded response that isn't as good as people think it is. Let me explain why.

First, a little run down of some of the complaints: - Not all pokémon being in the game, making you have less options for a team, both for postgame and competitive battles - The graphics are way worse than what the switch is capable of and the animations are reused - Little to no postgame - The exp share cannot be turned off, making you overleveled really easily - The games have less content than any of the 3DS games for a higher price - The story is short and uninspired

These are just some of the complains the games get of course, there are many others. But be honest with me, is it really necessary to buy to game to have these complaints? I feel like each and every one of these can be witnessed in some other way. I can watch let's plays (hell, even trailers) of the game to tell how the graphics are not up to today's standards or what the switch can do. Remember, this system can run Breath of the Wild and Witcher. With much larger open worlds and monsters running around in the overworld. The animations being reused, you could see from the trailer they first showed off pokémon from previous generations. You don't exactly have to be a game developer to tell they are not new and improved, despite what Gamefreak originally claimed and how it was supposed to be the reason they did not include all pokémon in the game. Exp share, less content and bad story is once again something you can look up yourself and decide if they are problems for you or not. I did that and personally, they are very bad and will most likely bring down the enjoyment of the game if I played it. I do NOT need to shell out 60 dollars to decide if I will like it or not.

Or or even if I did want to play the game and experience it for myself, borrowing it from a friend is very much an option too. Probably not something that everyone can do, but the option is still there.

If you did buy the game and enjoyed it, good for you. You were able to look past the huge list of issues the games have, both objective and subjective. But do not assume that everyone else is able to as well. Do not invalidate their opinion just because they didn't play it. It is Gamefreak and the Pokémon Company's job to sell me a game. If I am not sold on the game, I will not buy it and I most likely have very good reasons for it. I am hopefully others as well will not buy a game that we are certain we won't enjoy. That is just silly.

I feel like we're far enough into the series that some evolution mechanics could use some "touching up"

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 06:55 PM PST

PS: Realize this became a bit of a rant by the end, sorry for that lol

For instance, I get that most new Eeveelutions were introduced to coincide with some new mechanic. But while I don't think friendship should be going anywhere as a mechanic, even one used for evolution, I think we have enough others that use the mechanic at this point that we can afford to turn the whole Eevee line into a uniform "stone evolution" set. Let Espeon, Umbreon, and Sylveon evolve with Sun, Moon, and Shiny Stones respectively. They've shown they're willing to do something like that with Leafeon and Glaceon now evolving with Leaf and Ice Stones, so it's time to make the whole set uniform if you ask me.

We could also afford to cut back on the trading evolutions, especially the "trade with X held item" ones. Again, I'm not against the idea of trading as an evolution mechanic but I think some of these could be trimmed down now that we have newer methods that make just as, if not more, sense. For instance, Steelix and Scizor could be done with the "level up while knowing a Steel-type move" mechanic now. With all the Gen 4 new evolutions (Electivire, Magmortar, Rhyperior, etc) it could just be "level up while holding the item." Given how they mostly push those particular hold items to the late game nowadays it'd still work without making things unbalanced or anything. And then there are the ones that have hold items that don't really make sense for the evolution like Politoed. Change those to evolve with a Shiny Stone or something.

And I'm not thinking just simplifying the annoying ones. There are a few older ones that just have basic "get to X level" ones that could use some updating to make them make more sense.

Like make it uniform across ALL fossil Pokemon to have the "level up while knowing Ancient Power" condition.

Make Paras have "level up while holding a Big Mushroom."

Magnemite/Dugtrio get "level up while having 2 other Magnemite/Diglett in your party." And don't tell me that one would be too complex or anything. We got freaking Runerigus, Sirfetch'd, and Alcremie so Magneton/Dugtrio would be outright simple in comparison to some of the stuff they come up with.

Anyway, what do you all think? I'm curious what other ideas people might have. Would updating be a good idea on a wider scale? What are some other ideas you think could use some updating? Would you be against evolutionary updates? If against, why?

As much as I love the new layout of the recent pokémon games, I truly miss the good ‘ole elite 4....

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:27 PM PST

I remember back in the good old days of soulsilver when you had to STOCK UP on revives and hyper potions to heal in between each match of the elite four. Don't get me wrong, I love having my pokémon healed in between each match automatically in Sw/Sh, but I feel like half the battle was keeping everyone alive. I definitely can't complain because it saves a lot of time being able to auto heal though.

On the other hand, I feel as though the recent games haven't given nearly as much room to explore like they used to. I remember specifically in pokémon X and Y, trying to figure out how to find and catch Zygarde, the "Z" legendary. Same with catching the legendary birds and beasts while looking at the map to see where their last location was. Filling out the dex is always a fun challenge, but I wish there was more things to do like the previous games, and not giving us the pseudo-legendaries as part of the story line. Just my personal thoughts!

    Ultra Necrozma & Eternamax Eternatus

Ultra Necrozma got the spotlight in USUM while Eternatus unleashed the darkest day in SwSh, both of them are extraterrestrial dragons with nigh-infinite amounts of energy. Both of them are responsible for their regional gimmicks. Ultra Necrozma is a dragon of pure light while Eternatus absorbs raw energy. They both crashed down to earth from somewhere, Necrozma being from the ultra space while Eternatus doesn't have any specific backstory. They both look like ultra beasts and eldritch abominations and also have a crystalline look to them. Both of them get a special battle form that represents what they truly are.

My SwSh personal review: a very lacking game

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:59 PM PST

There are some cool things about the game. The raids are fun, except when they're almost impossible to do (Obstagoon) and are kind of hidden behind the online subscription. Overworld pokemon are cool as well. That being said...

Ride gear. Why is this a thing? At least make it actually customizable if we're being forced to have it, instead of just different colored pajamas.

Why can't we farm berries anymore? I'd love to be able to have more or certain types of berries without needing to go to a certain tree in hopes that they'll drop and not get stolen by a squirrel.

The map (and story) is very linear and very lacking. The wild area is neat, but the whole map feels deceptive. It looks like it's big, but it feels so small just due to how linear it is. You're constantly rushed from one gym to the next, there's only one small cave and one small place to surf, and everything is pretty much a straight line. There's almost nothing to actually explore.

I never had to buy Revives. Ever. Between Sonia and finding stuff on the ground I was always fully stocked.

I honestly felt a little sad when I was going into the stadium for the last time, because while it felt so cool it also felt really hollow because I won't be able to ever do that with my favorite pokemon, they didn't make the cut. (Sad Feraligatr noises)

The story felt pretty nonexistent. I fought the gyms while Sonia kind of talked about some sort of legendary thing, Chairman Rose was there and then he brought on the end of the world I guess because of reasons, but it was ok because you caught a pokemon. And Team Yell was there, kind of, but they weren't really a big deal. Even the whole gym challenge felt off, like I was just a background character to Hau's Hop's story instead of the main character of my own.

The "bad" team didn't make sense. The legendary pokemon story didn't make sense. My character was pushed around the entire time into a "story" it felt like I was being told to like, instead of just letting me play the game how I wanted to play it.

The towns, while nice to look at, felt empty and have no real reason to revisit. They hardly had any reason to spend time there in the first place, just go in, fight the gym, leave. There was no Silph Co takeover, no Radio Tower takeover, no stolen submarine or windmill or citywide power outage. Galar just feels so empty.

This entire game experience felt like a hollow version of what it could have been. Once you get past the fancy backdrop and away from the eternal hand-holding of your rival, the magic just isn't there.

    Posted: 08 Dec 2019 08:50 AM PST

I do not understand why the directors seem to think these two things are mutually exclusive. If you're afraid of children getting lost in the cave, that's fair: add a railroad track that connects entrance to exist. However, that does not mean you can't build branching paths that connect in maze-wise fashion underneath the tracks or something. Hell, if you wanted to, you could lock it behind an HM (also if they do HM it should be locked behind level or something, so a rock smash user can do rock smash not if they have the move but if they have the right level) or something.
