    Theory: Stonjourner has some sort of association with the Dynamax phenomenon

    Eternatus came from a meteorite that fell 20,000 years ago. Dynamax was created from Eternatus when its energy leaked out of it after is battled Zacian and Zamazenta. This resulted in the creation of several places called Power Spots, where Trainers can trigger the Dynamax transformation.

    Turffield has some peculiar stones that share the same markings as the ones on Stonjourner's leg. Also, you can see the Dynamax mural engraved in the hillside.

    In a curious behavioral display, Stonjourner come together from all over on a certain day of each year and stand together, forming an evenly spaced ring. No one has quite figured out why they do this, but there are many competing theories flying about, having to do with the position of the sun, the energy of the earth, and other factors.

    And from its Shield Pokedex entry:

    Once a year, on a specific date and at a specific time, they gather out of nowhere and form up in a circle.

    The last possible connection is Stonjourner's ability, Power Spot. Power Spot boosts the power of its teammates moves, but not Stonjourner itself. Coincidentally, Power Spots are locations in the Galar region where Pokemon can Dynamax. Perhaps Stonjourner has similar extraterrestrial roots as Eternatus and came to Earth in the same meteorite. It might not be as strong as Eternatus, but it can still lend some of its Dynamax power with its ability.

    Why doesn't Nintendo have all the old games on the Eshop?

    Not sure if this has been discussed before, but it really bothers me that I cant play any of the older games unless I pirate or buy used for like triple the original price. This extends beyond just the Pokémon series as well, but it's the older Pokémon games I miss the most. Does anyone know why they refuse to add these iconic games for everyone to enjoy? I would gladly drop $15-20 on the old games again.

    EDIT 2: To everyone commenting about the 3DS and Wii U shops, I should've made it clear that I meant that the Switch does not provide any VC type service. Sorry for the vagueness everyone!

    Elite four from each region from worst to best in my opnion

    Kalos: Does anyone remember Kalos' elite four? They have no rematch with a stronger team, they are not difficult, there is no importance in the story and their design does not attract my attention. Malva is even more interesting because she is a member of the villainous team, but it surprises me that people are idiots so that they don't realize that she dresses like the members of Team Flare.

    Hoenn: Drake is really cool and I like the pokemons he uses, but the rest of the elite are boring. Phoebe and Glacia repeat several pokemons in their teams and that makes them predictable and uninteresting, I think it would be better if they use pokemons that are not specialized types than just using duplicates. Sidney is easy, his design is cool but he has almost nothing to remember him.

    Johto: Will has an interesting design but his team is boring and doesn't use Johto's cool psychic pokemon, Koga is an interesting character and I like his poiso / bug pokemon team, Bruno is still easy and Karen is interesting and I would like more of her if she uses a Tyranitar.

    Kanto: The idea of ​​Kanto's Elite Four is that they use the rarest types in the region, so they all use at least one pokemon that is not their specialized type. They are the first Elite four and are still remembered until today. They offer a good challenge with the exception of Bruno.

    Alola: They finally got back to using 5 pokemons. They are the Elite Four most participative in the story of the game and they are charismatic and likeable characters, besides that their teams are interesting.

    Sinnoh: In Platinum more specifically, because in DP they were very overlevel to their team and that would make them difficult in an unfair way. Now in Pt they are still overlevel to their team but the difficulty is good, they use incredible and strong pokemon and the battles are fun. Besides, I love their Design.

    Unova: I could put them on just for the music. Yes I know they only use 4 pokemons and so many people consider them pathetic but they offer a good challenge and in addition they are planned to be at the same level as the player different from the others. They are very memorable, the design, the pokemons they use and even interesting things about them. Besides the fact that this was the first elite that could be faced in any order. I will never forget the end of BW2 when the elite four and Iris said goodbye to the player after he has beaten them.

    So apparently, us with an active Pokémon Bank subscription didn't actually get 30 days free access to Pokémon Bank.

    Just a quick sorta-PSA but it appears as though the 30 day free access to Pokémon Bank that was given to everyone as part of Pokémon HOME's release didn't actually extend our subscriptions, I purchased my subscription 17th March 2019 and today Bank is telling me that I have 1 day left.

    It just seems a tad unfair that the paying customers didn't actually get the 30 days free that was promised to everyone to commemorate the release of Pokémon HOME. The free access ran concurrently with our active subscriptions.

    I have reached out to Nintendo support and so far heard nothing, I'm hoping to hear back from them soon but I'm curious if anyone else has heard from them about this subject.

    FINALLY! got my melmetal after 3 grueling months of pokemon go

    So around December I decided to try and get 400 meltan candies I played every Saturday and just today Pokemon Go decided to give mystery boxes an hour and gave me 30 meltans which amounted enough candies to finally get my precious Melmetal

    Playing Pokemon X for the first time and seriously amazed by the gyms and league design

    I didn't have a 3DS when it came out, now I am catching up to this gen.

    I don't know how well or not it was received by the community but I had to comment that I love the gym design. The roller gym was fun, and I also really liked the atmosphere of the 7th Psy-type gym. The 5th gym with the quizz was also quite original, shame the questions were too easy.

    Now, Im at the league and I found the rooms of the elite 4 really beautiful, hence posting this haha

    A lot of the gym leaders are boring and uninteresting, so in the spam of 3 hours I made up a bunch of head canons about them to give them a bit of character. Enjoy!

    Here's the list of head canons I made to try to give the gym leaders a bit more character. I decided not to do Galar because I felt like they had a bit more personality given to them in the games and trainer cards. Some of them were rushed or uninteresting, but I hope some of you will be able to derive some enjoyment out of them. Feel free to comment about your own head canons.

    Kanto:

    Brock: Secretly wants to be a body builder. That's why you sometimes see him shirtless, he wants to show off.

    Misty: Really hates being called the "Tomboyish Mermaid." Thinks it makes her seem juvenile.

    Surge: He's a smoker. He's also really good friends with Sabrina and Koga, they always take and destroy his pack of cigarettes whenever he hangs out with them. Gets called uncle Serge by Janine.

    Erika: Member of the Kanto Cultural Preservation Society, an organization that tries to preserve Kanto's cultural history and landmarks. She's also a bit of a gamer and likes cosplay.

    Koga: He's a huge rock fan, with his favorite bands being Queen and The Orbeetles. Met his wife in a Queen concert. He's good friends with Sabrina and Surge, likes to go drinking with them on the weekends. Still does this even though he has become and Elite Four member.

    Janine: Has a tattoo of a Crobat on her left arm. She covers it because she thinks it makes her seem unprofessional. She shows it off when she goes to nightclubs with her friends.

    Sabrina: Despite her calm and cool exterior she really likes to drink, with her favorite drink being whisky. She likes to fuck around with her powers when she gets drunk, resulting in Koga and Surge having a lot of videos and stories of her getting into drunken hijinks.

    Blaine: He likes to give tours of his gym and lab to little kids so that they can get interested in science. He even has unofficial battles with them and lets them win.

    Giovanni: Met his lover in a disco club. He had a huge afro and was showing off his hairy chest when he met her.

    Blue: Gets into constant arguments with league officials about his team. They keep insisting that he pick a type, he keeps insisting that they go fuck themselves.

    Johto:

    Falkner: Was an emo in his younger years and wrote a lot of emo poetry. The other gym leaders make fun of him about it and occasionally like to recite it in meetings, much to his embarrassment.

    Bugsy: He has a huge crush on Jasmine and thinks she shares his feelings. Began falling for her when he heard her sing. She once kissed his cheek during his birthday. He considers it the greatest birthday of his life.

    Whitney: Clair forces her to train with her a lot a lot so to toughen her up emotionally and mentally so she can stop crying when she loses. She deeply admires and respects Clair for this and tries to live up to her expectations.

    Morty: He does stand up comedy on weekends, where he's considered hilarious for his dry wit and sarcasm. He was Falkner's rival in their younger years and was the one who told the others about Falkner's emo phase.

    Chuck: He actually has a degree in electrical engineering because he was afraid his trainer career wouldn't be enough to sustain him financially. He always tells young trainers who want to get compensated for their work to always be careful and have backup plans.

    He likes taking his wife out on dates. Sometimes takes her to the events where Jasmine sings in.

    Jasmine: She's has an amazing singing voice and sings as a jazz singer for a local band. She always draws a huge crowd due to her voice and because she looks stunning in the black dress she always wears.

    She likes to go visit Pryce sometimes to keep him company. They have tea and sandwiches while they share stories about their journeys and battles they had.

    Pryce: He unfortunately lost his wife to cancer years ago and now donates money to cancer research. Over the years he has engaged in several relationships with various women.

    His grandson, Brawly, likes to video call him frequently. Pryce gives him advice on how to be a better gym leader. He thinks Brawly would really like Jasmine and hopes that he can come to Johto so that they can meet.

    Clair: Organizing gym leader meetings always lands on her because no one else will do it. The most annoying part to her is that they always devolve into chaos and she desperately, and unsuccessfully, tries to bring them back to order. She eventually gives up and starts drinking the beer that Chuck always beings.

    She sees a lot of her younger self in Whitney and tries her best to try to get her to grow. She's really happy about the progress Whitney has been showing.

    Hoenn:

    Roxanne: She's a role model to a lot of little kids and tries to keep up an image of this intelligent and elegant gym leader. For those reasons she's afraid that the public will judge her for her tramp stamp. Winona keeps telling her to get over it.

    Brawly: He was born in Hoenn, but his parents are from Johto. He was inspired to become a gym leader because of his grandfather, Pryce.

    He's heard a lot about Jasmine and finds it funny that Pryce wants him to get together with her. He won't do it, but he is interested in meeting and fighting her.

    Wattson: He once had a strong muscular body in his youth. Then age and burgers took it away.

    Flannery: She's really into contests and likes to participate in them. She's actually won a couple, with her Slugma being considered 'The Cutest Little Slug Monster In The World.'

    Norman: The other gym leaders decided to play a prank on him when he first opened his gym by giving him a Skitty costume as a gift. Norman thought it was funny until he realized that they also decorated his entire gym with Skitty merchandise.

    Winona: When she was told to specialize in a type by the league she wasn't sure if she should've been a Normal, Grass, Water, Steel, Dragon type specialist. She couldn't decide so she decided just to be a Flying type specialist that had Pokémon with those types as duel types.

    She's really good friends with Roxanne, but does find it annoying that Roxanne worries about pointless things like her tramp stamp. She always tries to get Roxanne to loosen up a bit.

    Tate and Liza: When Tate isn't battling he's gaming, playing multiplayer games and get into screaming matches with his opponents. He considers Erika his gaming rival and tries to beat her in matches.

    Liza also games, but like to play open world and RPGs. She once liked multiplayers, but finds her brother's childish intensity to be annoying.

    Wallace: He's rather eccentric and likes to play pranks on his fellow gym leader. He's the one who came up with the Skitty prank for Norman and still has photos of Norman's face when he did the prank. Everyone tries to prank him back, but they always fail. He now pranks the elite four.

    Juan: He's a very serious individual who enjoys his work. He was once a fashion designer, but gave up that life to become a gym leader. His main inspiration to become a trainer was due to his good friend Fantina. He takes joy and passion with him whenever he pursues something.

    Sinnoh:

    Roark: He and Candice dated for a little while, but it didn't work out. Their lives took them to different direction and neither was willing to compromise for the other. They still have feelings for each other though.

    Gardenia: She gets the James treatment where all her Pokémon give her big hugs whenever the come out. She tries to get them to stop, but to no avail.

    Maylene: She's still a bit too green when it comes to being a gym leader. She has this obsession with being perfect and works herself too hard. The other gym leaders keep having to tell her to relax.

    Crasher Wake: He was once able to get Volkner to wrestle him after Volkner lost a bet. The match between him and 'Zippy' is still one of the most popular videos on Sinnoh Youtube.

    Fantina: She was once a fashion modle that travelled across the world and has modeled for Juan several times. However she left that life behind when she challenged Bryon to a battle several years ago. Their first battle was so intense that it inspired her to become a gym leader. Her becoming a gym leader is what inspired Juan to become one.

    Bryon: He likes to go visit Roark often and consoled him when he and Candice broke up.

    He met Fantina several years ago and got challenged to a battle by her. Their battle was so intense that it inspired Fantina to become a gym leader and now they battle each other once every two weeks. Their current score is 35 wins each.

    Candice: She once dated Roark, but they broke up due to wanting different things with their life. She still has feelings for him even though it has been years since then, but isn't willing to get back together with him.

    Candice is also an amazing photographer. Her favorite photos are the ones she took in celebration of seeing the fight between Crasher Wake and Zippy. Many are currently displayed in the office where the gym leader meetings are held and in the individual offices of the gym leaders.

    Volkner: He got really drunk once and made a bet with Flint that the person who passes out drunk first has to be in a costumed wrestling match with Crasher Wake. Volkner, who normally had high alcohol tolerance, lost after several shots of tequila. He now is constantly reminded about Zippy and his epic defeat during the wrestling match. He has secretly tried to destroy Candice's photo of him, but his Pokémon have repeatedly stopped him.

    Unova:

    Cilan, Chili, Cress: Ever since they finished their training that've been searching for the Triad so that they can kick ass and take names.

    Lenora: She once destroyed a replication of an artifact when she was younger. She thought it was real at the time and almost had a heart attack.

    Cheren: Bianca threw him a big party in celebration of him getting the gym leader position. Alcohol was served and it was the first time Cheren ever drank, so he ended up throwing up.

    Roxie: Despite the punk girl aesthetic she's actually a really big fan of Elesa and was able to get her autograph during a gym leader meeting.

    Burgh: The league often commissions him to design the layout of the gyms for the other gym leaders.

    Elesa: She once wrote a list of horrible puns that she could say on interviews. Her Pokémon saved her the embarrassment and took it away from her in the middle of the night.

    Clay: He's drinking and gambling buddies with Drayden. They gamble every weekend and Clay always ends up loosing a large sum of money.

    Skyla: Elesa once convinced her to go on the runway with her. Skyla ended up tripping on her dress and broke her nose.

    Brycen: His acting career is going really well. Currently he is working on a biopic about Alder.

    Drayden: During one night where he drank too much vodka Drayden actually gambled away his house. He lost it to Iris and now he pays her rent.

    Iris: Drayden and Clay don't let her gamble with them because she always ends up winning.

    Marlon: He actually got his gym leader position because he's friends with a few higher ups. Roxie dislikes him for that and sees him as a fake trainer.

    Kalos:

    Viola: The other gym leaders always hire her to do photo shoots for them.

    Grant: He's been known to get lost in the mountains. Frequently. So much so that he knows the rescue team members by name.

    Korrina: Wulfric was the one who urged her to be a gym leader because he saw something special in her.

    Ramos: When Wulfric was a trainer, he was the gym leader that Wulfric could never beat. To this day Wulfric still refers to him as a 'tough bastard' and 'Satan,' much to Ramos' amusement.

    Clemont: He was once responsible for shutting down all the power in Lumious City. The league had his head for that one.

    Valerie: Her eyes aren't real. She wears contact lenses that Viola once gave her as a birthday present.

    Olympia: Her gym layout is just a bunch of projections that were made by a device that Clemont made for her.

    Wulfric: He once wanted to be the champion of Kalos, but those dreams fell short when he got cancer. His recovery process took awhile, but gave him the time to decide to just be a gym leader.

    Question about organizing in Pokemon Bank:

    I want to:

    • Be able to search just by a letter, not a specific species.
    • "Grab" and then jump to a box instead of hold the shoulder button down.
    • Show NatDex numbers in the box by default.

    Is there something I'm missing? In particular searching for a species via multiple scroll menus triples the time it takes to find anything, and not being able to jump to a box specifically (while holdling a pokemon) seems like I have to be doing it wrong.

    So far all I can figure out is that I should pick up the pokemon and press L or R to move boxes. I have 1800 Pokemon across about 75 boxes, and it takes forever to move one around. The initial organization is so bad that I'm honestly considering just letting them stay like that and just not use the stupid thing.

    Best Pokémon game for a beginner(Switch Lite)

    So long story short I just ordered a Switch Lite today and it's arriving tomorrow, I'm a teen and I have to work to buy the games and it will probably take quite a long time before I can even buy one, I've never played any Pokémon game before and I think this is a great opportunity to into Pokémon since I've always been pretty interested in the games but never got to play, I did some research and I found that on the Switch there are a few Pokémon games on the switch, for a person that has never played Pokémon before which game should I buy?

    What are your gen 8 high points?

    I knew I wanted a scorbunny named Roy when I started my version, wasn't expecting my first starter roll female. It was kinda funny because my rowlett last gen was a female as well. (I named her artemis)

    After beating the champion w/ Roy by my side i completed my dex (for the first time in over a decade) And started masuda breeding. I was able to breed my first shiny (since fire red). It was a litwick, I named it Gatsby.

    I've never had access to such a well connected WiFi set up. And for the first time Nintendo's online services truly feel worthy. (barely, but still) playing online with you guys has been fantastic! I've spent years lurking on showdown because the road to competitive play was thick w/ barriers to enter.

    Mints and egg move passing have made the process of turning a Pokémon into a competitive relatively painless while still feeling like an accomplishment. The facts that; I've been able to dress my MC, design a league card, and bring my original starter into my competitive experience have all contributed to a smooth enjoyable post game that was unlike any other Pokémon game from the previous 2 decades.

    I'm at 510 hours with this MC. Other than combining my multiple play-throughs of Skyrim, it is easily the most time I've spent with a single character in any game.

    Let me know your experiences!

    TLDR: I like the quality of life improvements in gen 8. I named my female scorbunny after a fire emblem character. I've spent a lot of time playing online with you guys and it's been fun. HBU?

    The world is pretty scary right now. No-one really knows what's happening and, even for those it doesn't affect directly, the whole of society is pretty messed up just now. SO. Let's have some positivity and happiness!

    My favourite pokemon is Totodile because he's a tiny little chubby blue crocodile. Hell yeah dude.

    And I just love how welcoming, in general, the community is. It's awesome.

    Which Pokemon are you?(All 890)

    Heyo Reddit, I've noticed that there isn't a single "Which Pokemon are you?" quiz that includes all 890 Pokemon. So, I'm making one.

    I'm using links within a Google Slides doc to make it and I'm confident that it's going to turn out real nice. The only problem is finding a Pokedex with all 890 Pokemon in a Powerpoint/Slides/PDF format at this point to appear when a quiz taker gets their result. Ideally this would include the Pokemon image, name, type, and a Pokedex entry. If you'd like to be a part of this project, chat me and we'll make it happen.

    "Bulba-only" run

    I'm going to be trying a Bulbasaur only run in Sw/Sh. The only rule is Bulbasaur only, which makes it less of a challenge, but my question is...

    What starter should Hop have?

    Should i choose Sobble for him for easier rival battles?

    Should I choose Grookey for him for decently hard battles?

    Should I choose Scorbunny for him in the spirit of Gen 1?

    I'm leaning towards Scorbunny.

    Edit: I changed my mind. I'm doing a Gen 1 run. same thing, but I can only use gen 1 pokemon.

    Why Giovanni uses a Rhyhorn instead of a Rhydon in Fire Red and Leaf Green?

    Seriously, it's something I always wanted to know why. Giovanni is the last gym leader in the game it doesn't make sense his main pokemon is not fully evolved, and how to imagine Volkner using an Elekid. Your normal Rhydon is already easy to beat with any hit of water or plant, but at least it was acceptable and gave a good experience. HGSS exchanged one of the Dragonair of the Clair for a Gyarados which was a good idea, ORAS exchanged one of the duplicates of Slugma of Flannery for a numel which was a good idea and FRLG the only change he made in a team of a gym leader it was negative and stupid.

    Weird Bug?

    I just had something weird happen to me with my team. All of the Pokémon in my first box had their first move switched with something else. It's as if I went to the move reminder for every one of them and switched their first move to a random one. Anyone else experience this?

    Play-through gens 1-3

    A friend and I are just started a play-through of gens 1-3. I'm playing Red and he's playing Blue right now. Afterward I will be playing Silver and he will be playing Gold. Finally, I will play Ruby and he Sapphire. We may also do Fire Red and Leaf Green. We are probably going to be playing Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald on the side. I'm excited as these were some of the games I had when I was younger. I got out of Pokemon a few years ago, and haven't really completed a game in a long time, so I am very excited.

    What do you think about the current anime series?

    I don't watch every pokemon anime episode, but Galar series are so weird. I thought that all this travelling stuff will be interesting, but it just Ash being Ash and go catching a bunch of mons. Rince and repeat. Go annoys me likr nobody else and the latest episode about Scorbunny proved me right. But what do you think?Do you enjoy the recent series? Do you watch pokemon anime?

    Decide what to get mostly for GTS

    Tomorrow i am gonna buy a used Nintendo switch lite to play Pokemon, but i can't decide which version i just want to use mostly Pokemon Home to trade Pokemon in GTS can you help me decide what to get?

    Pokemon bank

    Idk what happened but last year around this time i bought pokemon bank for the year and when i went on it like 1 or 2 weeks ago it said i had 5 days left of it but when i checked it today it says i have 98 days left is it a bug or something?
