The Crown Tundra is a step in the right direction

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 01:51 AM PDT

So i havent been a big fan of swsh, and it just felt lacking but the crown undra is a step in the right direction at least. Theres lots of good ideas and puzzles, the Calyrex story was a very fun twist that i wasnt expecting and the area is great and easy to get lost in too. Theyve clearly put a lot of effort into it and it gives me a bit of hope about future games. Its just a shame they made it a dlc, i feel like if this was part of the base game the price of 60$ would have been far more justified

Ok to clarify, I think the CT should have been in the base game, but ignoring the fact that its a DLC, Gameplay wise it's definitely a step in the right direction.

I Know This Is Annoying To See But Please Listen:

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 04:48 AM PDT

For the sake of everything that is holy PLEASE use your brains when doing the Dynamax Adventures.

I get it, you're 10 years old and you Like seeing your pokemon go big. But please if there's someone on your team with a better pokemon, let them do the dynamax, it benefits everybody on the team that way

Also, please be conscious of your teammates pokemon when selecting routes. Don't vote for the dark type route if you see your teammates have psychic and ghost types

And finally, when you load in you can tell what type the legendary is, If you're doing a fire raid, dont switch your water type for a dark type just because the dark type looks cool

Long Story Short: Use your brain.

Can we just appreciate what Nintendo and Gamefreak did with this little detail in the Crown Tundra?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 08:18 AM PDT

So I know Pokémon Sword and Shield aren't the most beloved games in the franchise. I personally do like them a lot, especially if it comes to the Pokémon chaising you again.

One thing what I noticed, which I appreciate a lot is when you have Latias or Latios behind you.

Its well known that if Latias and Latios have to fly in high speeds they retract their arms/paws, so they have less wind resistance. In Pokémon Sword and Shield, if you have a Latias or Latios behind you and the distance between you two gets bigger and they have to speed up to get close to you again, or if you're on your bike and you're faster, they retract their little paws and speed up to get close to you or to keep up with you.

This is a small little detail I absolutely adore, and I hope there are more to discover!

(Sorry for the weird formatting, I'm on my phone. Also sorry if my grammar is off, if I made spelling mistakes or if I used words incorrectly. English isn't my native language)

I am 15 years old and just beat my first Nuzlocke.

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 01:45 PM PDT

It was in Pokemon Sword. I know everyone calls that game easy and boring, but as someone who's first experience with pokemon was gen 6, I've never had that definition of hardness. I'm not a pro, I usually have to look up which types are strong against eachother and what levels pokemon get certain moves. And this Nuzlocke was, to me, very hard. I lost at least eight pokemon, sometimes to rookie mistakes, sometimes to bad luck. I lost three pokemon during the chairman battle and two to dynamax battles in the wild area.

But the important thing to me is that I won. I beat a Nuzlocke, and I'm happy. I'm posting it here to spread my happiness at my accomplishment, and nothing else. Please don't be rude in the comments.

For those of you wondering what my final team was, I ended with a Mudsdale, Swirlix, Dugtrio, Sudowoodo, Corviknight and Dracovish. They all made it past the final champion battle. That is all :>

Omanyte is the ultimate success story: From extinct to pest species

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 07:53 PM PDT

From Omanyte's Pokemon Sword Pokedex Entry

Because some Omanyte manage to escape after being restored or are released into the wild by people, this species is becoming a problem

Nothing says conservation success than the species becoming a problem ahaha. Honestly the Crown Tundra should've been named "Fossil Mountain" cause the amount if seemingly extinct Pokemon wandering around in the wild makes me think this is where the fossil restoration labs just dump all their results after they're done with them.

Aerodactyl pokedex entry references the dex entry for its mega form, "even modern technology is incapable of producing a perfectly restored specimin" nothing the fact the entry for its mega states the mega form is closer to what it actually looked like.

I wish the map was more accurate in SwSh.

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 09:03 PM PDT

Playing the Crown Tundra DLC has made me realize how truly bad the map is in SwSh. There were multiple times where I was trying to explore different areas and trying to look at the map to see if I went to somewhere I haven't been to. The marker only stays in the center of an area (giants bed for example) and doesn't show your exact location within that area. I can't help but feel I'm missing different areas when it doesn't show me exactly where I am.

My favorite thing about crown tundra so far

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 03:09 AM PDT

I'm sorry if others pointed to this already but I absolutely love the way the quests for new legendaries are introduced with the title that spins to the screen. it's so campy and I cannot get enough of it, I don't know if this was done in previous gens (I missed gens 4-7) but to me it's by far the best thing in swsh (not that I don't like some other stuff). Dynamax adventures are cool but oh man these titles are something else

The DLC needed NPC trainer battles

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 02:23 AM PDT

The new areas are cool to explore, but they feel really empty. When the Isle of Armor dropped, I was excited to create a brand new team to challenge it, only to be very disappointed upon discovering that the island was devoid of trainers. Within an hour you can basically see everything the isle and tundra have to offer, since there's nothing but easily avoidable wild Pokémon standing in your path. The Crown Tundra in particular has that cool Victory Road-like mountain area at the top, and by all means it should have been a fun climb, but it's over in a few minutes as there's nothing in your way.

Bottom line: NPC trainers, perhaps with a new battle theme, would have made the DLC areas feel more lively, and would have added a few more hours of gameplay onto a relatively short experience.

    Playground rumors

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 06:07 AM PDT

Growing up, I'm sure a lot of us heard different playground rumors about the Pokemon games. Us older fans are familiar with the Mew under the truck in Gen 1 and some of the others from the early games. But, what were some lesser-known or your "playground unique" rumors you remember from back in the day?

I remember when Ruby and Sapphire released, there was a rumor in my elementary school that you could breed a female Plusle holding a Soothe Bell with a male Minun holding a Macho Brace. There was a super low chance of a purple Minusle (that had no charge) could hatch from the ensuing egg. It was a "legendary" Easter egg so that's why Minusle didn't follow the others numerically in the Pokedex.

    I. Love. Peony.

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 08:50 PM PDT

I haven't gotten Crowned Tundra yet but I can already tell Peony is gonna be the bestest boy, for many reasons.

    1. His battle theme is super catchy and makes me happy. It sounds like the opposite of Rose's theme where Rose has this suspenseful choir and orchestra, while Peony just has a battle theme that tells you, that battling is fun for people and Pokémon.

    2. He has himbo energy. Enough said, himbos are perfect beings and I love them.

    3. He has straight dad energy. Himbo and dad energy can make the ultimate life form and Game Freak made it with Peony. He just looks like a dad, and honestly that's perfect because he also has Himbo energy.

    4. I don't know his suit is cool I guess.

So yeah thanks for coming to my TedTalk and if anyone dares to shank my precious boy in a alleyway I will go sicko mode.

Team Kabu-Nessa has the best team dialogue so far in the Galar All Stars tournament imo

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 02:51 AM PDT

Granted, I haven't done much of it yet, but hearing them succinctly put how well their types cover each other strategically ("I'll burn away any plants that try to choke up your Pokémon" "And I'll wash away the rocks and ground that try to smother yours!") was a lovely way of showing their friendship.

So.. we gonna talk about Super Greedant?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 02:02 PM PDT

I've just finished with almost all of the Tundra. Birds. Regis. Calyrex. Multiple Lairs. And I ended up back at the Legendary Tree to try to finish the mini-mission for spiritomb. I realized I could "shake the tree"

I did so, until something terrifying greeted me.

I was hoping that this would be a way to encounter another legendary. And it seems I was correct. I JUST GOT ANNIHILATED BY AN OVERWEIGHT SQUIRREL. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON

Small discoveries looking at Galar's map...

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 09:35 AM PDT

So basically I looked at Galar's map again since Crown Tundra was released and it made me realized a few things.

The map is not just based on the UK... but a version of the UK that's been rotated 180 degrees.
Wyndon("London") is in the north rather than south.
Isle of Armor is basically an island where Ireland would be after such a rotation.
And Crown Tundra is basically Scotland.

Also one other thing: before the expansion pass, the game map had three stretches of land that stretched "offmap": in the northeast, in the northwest, in the south.

We now know the northeast to be Isle of Armor(or rather, an inaccessible peninsula which the isle is south of). And the South to be Crown Tundra.

But the northwest still look like it conspicuously inaccessible still. Seeing from the "art" of the map, there's nothing there.

But then I realized. There was "nothing" in the east either because the addition was "offshow"(Isle of Armor/Ireland).
And if Galar is the UK turned 180 degrees around... then there IS one landmass normally southeast of the UK that could be found in that northwest now: France.

And this just made me realize: both Kalos and Sinnoh's maps have stretches of land that stretch unseen beyond the "map"... in their south:
    Kalos: https://serebii.net/pokearth/kalos.png
    Sinnoh: https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/a/ac/Sinnoh.png

So if there's a next wild area/expansion... it could easily have a relationship with either Kalos or even Sinnoh(if the "hole" in the pokedex might be any indication...).

While re: the safe bet would be Kalos(because re: France's proximity to the UK and the logical one based on Galar-as-UK-rotated-180-degrees)... the fact remains there is still re: a strangely Sinnoh-related hole in the "galardexes" even after Crown Tundra.

And unlike Kalos which is all mountains in it's southeast... Sinnoh has a very appropriate presence of sea in it's southeast, which would almost make TOO ideal of a jump from Galar's northwest coast to Sinnoh's southeast...

Sword/Shield credit where it's due (maybe)??

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 11:39 AM PDT

So, I know sword/shield gets a lot of flack, seemingly due to the low effort made overall, but it seems like people overlook the fact that the game was designed for handheld AND larger TV screens. Graphics-wise, I think the game translates well to a larger screen, which is something that gamefreak didn't have to consider at all in previous gens. Thoughts?

Visual Guide - All gen 1-7 pokemon that can be used in Sword & Shield

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 08:20 AM PDT

    https://imgur.com/a/t81xthY#DUHO8CC

This image was created using info from Serebii's list of all available pokemon in Sword and Shield + returning pokemon from Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra

Some things to keep in mind,

-This is the highest number of available pokemon in any game to data
-The only fossil pokemon to not be included as of Crown Tundra are the Sinnoh fossils, hinting at DP remakes
-None of the Sinnoh mythical pokemon are able to be transferred, further hinting at DP remakes
-For unknown reasons, only gen 1 and 3 starter lines are available natively

The most terrified thing about Regieleki and Regidrago is they are not even at their strongest state.

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 04:35 PM PDT

According to the lore, ancient people put a device on Regieleki in order to nerf it yet it still has 100 atk/special atk and 200 spd, the fastest pokemon ever alive.

Regidrago is stated to be just a head of a dragon yet it still has 200 hp, 100 atk/special and 80 spd.

So how strong do you think they would be if they are at their best ?
