MissingNo has entered into urban legend.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:32 PM PST

My son was excitedly telling me about a special Pokémon from Red/Blue called Mysterio, which was strong against everything and weak against nothing and had the highest health of any Pokémon. I knew that he was talking about MissingNo but didn't contest what he was staying, just listened to what he was telling me. I love that 25 years later it has persevered in schoolyard discussions and has become some kind of legend.

Now to tell him about Mew under a truck ;)

    Good things about SwSh

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 06:45 AM PDT

Since theres so much negativity around SwSh, I'm gonna start a comment thread of good things about the games. Of course SwSh are far from perfect, but these games at least did some things right, so I want to focus on that for today.

I'll start: Galar itself is beautiful. Sure, some of the cities could use more NPCs, but the buildings and environments themselves are the best pokemon has ever seen.

Let's Go Pikachu isn't that bad.

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 11:21 AM PDT

While it does have alot of flaws, my daughter loves the game. She loves being able to see the shiny pokemon in the overworld and doesn't like having to battle pokemon to catch them either.

The first time she saw a shiny metapod in the Viridian Forest she lost her mind and ran to me to show it to me. She loves playing SW/SH but doesn't like the fact she has to go into encounters to see if its shiny.

Unlike when I was a kid she doesn't care about catching all the pokemon and inly wants to catch the ones she thinks are cute or cool looking.

The multiplayer is also a nice aspect of the game so when she does have her gym battles to progress in the game she can have me by her side to help out.

I am looking forward to the Diamon/Pearl remakes to see if she will likes them and I know she will enjoy Pokemon Snap when that comes out.

What would you think of an Pokemon Ring Fit Fusion?

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 10:50 AM PDT

Imagine an exercise game Ring Fit Pokemon. Maybe Pokemon Red/Blue but you have to walk in real life to move in the game. You encounter wild pokemon and have to make exercises to defeat them. You can choose pokemon from your Team and each pokemon has diffrent kinds of exercises. Fire-> Arms, Water-> Legs and so on. What do you think about it?

Could we assume that Togepi is originally from Sinnoh?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:06 PM PST

I was playing Pokémon SoulSilver and if you bring Togepi to Prof Elm he will say that Togepi isn't a pokémon from Johto, considering we can find him using a pokeradar in Diamond and Pearl, could we assume that Togepi is originally from Sinnoh?

This is what Prof Elm says:

"What? That Pokémon!? Hmm… As far as I know, there is not a Pokémon like this in Johto… Just like Mr. Pokémon was saying over the phone… The legendary Pokémon could be… Oh, never mind. Anyway, I'm sure things will be happening around you, <player>! You are making me all excited! I'll give you a present for that. Please take it."

As for Togepi's location, Bulbapedia points out that they can be found in D/P/Pt in route 230 by using the Poké Radar

I’m really excited for Pokémon snap!

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 05:33 PM PST

A lot of people haven't been talking about the Pokemon snap game which is unfortunate because I can tell that the company who made it put a lot of time and effort into it. The graphics look amazing and that social media thing seems really cool. What are your guys opinions on the trailers?

Why Everyone Needs a GameBoy Cart Reader

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 09:47 AM PDT

Like many of you, I was introduced to Pokemon back when the games came on colorful cartridges that didn't taste like battery acid. I poured hundreds of hours into my first couple Pokemon games - via car rides, family vacations, etc. Every few years I boot up my older games and flip through my PC Box, reminiscing. In many ways those older games are like a time capsule that brings be back to being 10 years old.

Every time I plug those old games in, my heart beats a little faster while I wait for the system to boot. Will my save still be there? What if the CMOS battery died? What if the connections have eroded over the years?

Finally this week I decided to do something about it:

The cart reader arrived last night and after an hour of copying all my data over.... wow. My saves are perfectly intact, and having them on an SD card (and backed up on my PC) gives me so much peace of mind.

It's also worth noting that cartridge readers are the ONLY way to legally obtain GameBoy ROMs. If you want to play Pokemon via an emulator but don't want to pirate, a cart reader is one of the coolest purchases you'll ever make.

Thinking of fake signature Pokémon moves, day 144: Taillow and Swellow

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 03:50 AM PDT

I am coming up with at least 1 fake move that would be exclusive to 1 Pokémon or an evolutionary line of Pokémon. I am going in Pokédex order, and I will skip every Pokémon or evolutionary line that already has a Pokémon in it that has a signature move. Signature Z-moves or G-Max moves don't count.

Taillow and Swellow's move is called Skydive, a Physicaly Flying-Type move with a base power of 130, 90% accuracy and 5 PP. The user loses 50% of its total HP if the move doesn't hit the target. It can still hit opponents that are using Fly, Bounce or Sky Drop.

The move is pretty simple. Taillow or Swellow just flies in the sky only to dive down again at very high speeds. The impact of the dive is what causes the target to get damaged. However, if the target protects itself or avoids the move, the user will slam into the ground at those speeds, thus taking away half of its total amount of HP, similar to High Jump Kick. Thinking about it, this move is basically just a Flying-Type version of High Jump Kick. But this move can also hit Pokémon that are in the semi-invulnerable turn while using Fly, Bounce or Sky Drop, or being a target if Sky Drop. Skydive doeen't increase in damage on these Pokémon though. This also means that when Gravity is active, Skydive cannot be performed. The same goes for Thousand Arrows, but Smack Down will not have this effect. The reason for this is because I don't think a single rock will be able to keep a Pokémon grounded, while strong gravitational forces and arrows that shot a Pokémon down can.

I'd love to hear feedback or questions about my ideas, and if you have any ideas for signature moves for Pokémon, I'd love to hear them, I might use the ideas (with your consent of course)! Even though this is a daily thing, or at least, I'll try to keep it daily, I don't think I'll be consistent with the time of day I post another idea.

I want to get into Pokemon

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 11:46 AM PDT

I want to get into Pokemon but I'm not sure what game I should start with. I'm not interested in playing any of the Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, and Switch titles. I want a Pokemon game with more story and I want it to be a mainline title

What game should I start with?

edit: Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I have chosen to play Platinum and eventually Black and White 1 and 2. Thank you!

Is it too late to get into pokemon games?

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 06:53 AM PDT

Hi when I was younger I never had any pokemon games. I always felt like I missed out and never watched anime as a kid.

I watched the original series of pokemon and want to try the games but DS are still very expensive. Are they worth getting into in my 20s and are there any active games still? I read that since 2006 they have online aspects.

If so, which one should I start with and are they still DS only games? Thanks.

I'm coming back to Pokemon after 10 years, starting with Black!

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 01:58 AM PST

Soo I grew up on Pokemon and Red/Gold where huge parts of my childhood. After Pearl I guess I just got bored of Pokemon and started playing other things, however after all this time I'm starting to get back into it.

So I bought a more updates DS of Ebay and a second hand copy of Black, my idea is to get back up to date with all the games I missed out on starting with Black and working my way up to current Gen.

So I guess this is more of a statement than a question! I've got lots to catch up on, Megas, new regions and loads of pokemon that I haven't got a clue about. I've found myself already googling wild Pokemon I'm encountering and trying to build my team for Unova.

So far I can't say Black is doing a whole lot for me, I really like the look of X and Y and I've already chosen all my starters for each Gen. Better get going !!

Since Emboar hardly had any votes, I'm doing a Serperior vs Samurott poll instead

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 09:37 AM PDT

Title. I'm holding a poll on everyone's favorite Unova Starter in their evolved forms, and Samurott and Serperior are tied currently, each with 125 votes, with Emboar just over 50.

These two are clearly most people's picks, so I thought I'd see who everyone else prefers. Serperior or Samurott?

I personally prefer Samurott, but I love all three Unova Starters.

I wonder how this one will go? Samurott is by far more controversial than Serperior, but it is also just as popular.

    Pokémon Questionnaire for College Project

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 10:26 AM PDT

Hi, I'm doing a Documentary on the recent Controversies surrounding SW/SH for a college project. I need to use statistics, from Questionnaires, in the Documentary so if you guys could fill this out it would be much appreciated.

https://forms.gle/S8kjx9GgiQExGNaR6 Please don't troll and be honest.

Also I'd be very grateful if you gave me any advice or ideas for me to include in the Documentary.

So I'm pretty sure every Pokemon that I have trained since college has a bad nature.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 03:30 PM PST

I have no idea how common this is. I'm a pretty avid Pokemon fan and I have been for as long as it was possible to be one.

That being said, and I'm like reeling right now, I was watching someone's playthrough of a game and they showed the stats of a Pokemon and said they were bad because the highest stat was blue.

I thought that blue meant good and red meant bad. Since the feature was first introduced. I just immediately understood that the red was the bad stat. I never looked it up.

    Until about 20 minutes ago.

So this entire time I've been intentionally nerfing my teams, shinies I hunted for, legendaries I soft reset for, everything. It's all backwards.

At the same time, I guess it's a testament to how very little that sort of thing affects your ability to play the game successfully 🤷🏾‍♂️

Kinda creepy episode in the Johto season that most people don't remember...

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 04:06 AM PDT

Pokémon every once in a while throws a ghost or some ambiguous kid horror story in their stuff, anime or games. That's nothing new, but I want to focus on one episode from the anime time has forgotten...

Remember that baby Stantler episode? For me as a kid was a really eerie moment. The whole idea of people seeing a group of these ugly reindeers in stampede with that slow motion blur effect they used in that episode then at the end is revealed that everything was just an illusion. Is was a very unconventional theme.

People mention the Sabrina episode, but for me that was more comical and very by the numbers spoooookey... The Stantler episode was obviously NOT an intentionally creepy themed chapter but it worked on me.

Where can I find/order a Pokeball shapes stress ball?

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 11:15 AM PDT

    Pokeball shaped* stress ball.

Just that. Did search around but didn't find anything minimally decent.

Do I have to order from Japan or does someone make custom stress balls, 'cause I really need to have a means of catching my new Dog, which is still wild, is Shiny, knows Bite, Double Team, spams Roar, and seems to have the Runnaway ability.

    European ,btw.

Theory: Flannery is the daughter of Kabu

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 05:25 AM PDT

So besides the fact that they are both fire gym leaders, they both come from Hoenn.

On Kabus leaguecard it says he comes from Hoenn which would fit the theory that he has left Lavaridge Town and Flannery has taken his position as a GYM leader. Which is why she is kinda uncertain about her texts and takeing a loss.

I wonder if there are more hints to this theory and if we could gather them in here.

Question about a specific episode of Pokemon

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 07:49 AM PDT

There was an episode of Pokemon in which Ash catches 30 Tauros. It was banned in the U.S. because of its pervasive use of realistic firearms and the fact that one of the characters pointed a gun at Ash's head threatening to shoot him. Why was this episode in question banned for something like that when there were other episodes of guns being pointed at the main character? The episodes in question are the following:
    1. There was an episode where Ash is about to catch what he thought was a Chancey, but it was actually officer Jenny in disguise, who points a rifle at him.
    2. There was an episode where Ash goes to a store to get medicine for Pikachu, and the people who worked there pointed guns at him because they thought he was going to rob them.

    How to spot fakes?

    Posted: 14 Mar 2021 06:50 AM PDT

Me and my wife just got a 3ds and are wanting to start collecting Pokémon games for them. I typically use eBay for this sort of thing because Amazon and Facebook marketplace are filled with fakes and eBay is good with siding on buyers, but to save my time what are good ways to spot fakes? I know the cartridges either come in 2 colors which are black and grey but I don't know which fakes are supposed to be which color? Any help would be greatly appreciated:)?
