Posted: 21 Jun 2021 11:37 PM PDT Hello everyone! Welcome to this week's edition of Rebuild Tuesday, a weekly event we're doing along with our Discord! This week's Pokémon is Zangoose! #335 Zangoose (Japanese ザングース) Cat Ferret Pokémon Memories of battling its archrival Seviper are etched into every cell of Zangoose's body. This Pokémon adroitly dodges attacks with incredible agility. Zangoose Base Stats:
Introduction: Zangoose was introduced in Gen 3 and saw moderate use. While its defenses are lacking to say the least, it packs a passable base 90 speed stat and a respectable 115 attack stat. It also packs a surprisingly diverse moveset, but to little use thanks to its low special attack. However, it still managed to cut a little niche out as a Swords Dance user. Gen 4 was only downhill for Zangoose, as it faced competition from many other, considerably better pokemon introduced in that generation. Its sets mostly remained the same, but that quickly changed... Sort of. With the introduction of Hidden Abilities with Gen 5, Zangoose received its now signature ability Toxic Boost! This allows it to begin dishing out damage the moment it hits the field, and renders it immune to most set-up counters. With careful enough play, it could even combine both its old and new builds to excellent effect. Gen 7 granted it Belly Drum, though it's rather superfluous with Zangoose's other, safer options. Zangoose entered the franchise as a little used sweeper/wallbreaker, and only fell over time. In gen 7 it was rated PU, and it is untierd in Gen 8. How viable do you trainers think Zangoose is? Is there anything else you think it needs in order to be a good competitive Pokémon (e.g. new moves, stats, abilities or typings)? What is its most optimal set? Zangoose on - Bulbapedia | Serebii For those who want to see previous Pokémon covered, you can view a list of our Gen 7 rebuilds here and our current SwSh series here. We'd also suggest checking out our Discord each Tuesday for live discussion on these topics as well! If there are any new Sword/Shield Pokémon (or returning Pokémon with significant changes from previous gens) that you'd like to see featured in future weeks, let us know by sending u/SnowPhoenix9999 a PM with your suggestion!
