Posted: 19 Nov 2019 05:46 AM PST Pokemon Sword and Shield is using an existing Pokemon species to demonstrate the dangers of global warming. The Pokemon franchise is not exactly a realistic world. Not only is it a place where intelligent animals have superpowers and yet are somehow okay with humans capturing them and using them for sport, it's also a world where pre-pubescent children are typically the front line against organized crime and terrorist syndicates. However, Pokemon Sword and Shield puts a spotlight on some very important real world issues, including a very grim look at global warming. One of the new regional variants introduced in Pokemon Sword and Shield is a new form of Corsola. Corsola was originally a chipper Water/Rock-type Pokemon that served as the coral of the Pokemon world. However, Pokemon Sword and Shield's version of Corsola is a bit more depressing. The Galarian Corsola is a Ghost-type Pokemon and resembles bleached coral. In fact, the Pokedex entry for Galarian Corsola notes that the Pokemon was wiped out by sudden climate change, turning it into a ghost that sucks out the life force of those who touch it: From Pokémon Shield:
Corsola eventually evolves into Cursola, a strange Pokemon whose body is made mostly of semi-transparent ectoplasm. Cursola also has the Perish Body Hidden Ability, which causes any Pokemon that hits Cursola with an attack that makes direct content to faint after three rounds unless it's switched out. Bleached coral is a very real phenomenon caused by rising ocean temperatures. It's estimated that up to half of the Great Barrier Reef was killed by coral bleaching and that over 70% of the world's coral reefs have been damaged due to bleaching. While coral can recover from bleaching (which is caused when coral expels the algae living inside of it), coral bleaching often kills coral and can cause the collapse of entire coral reefs. It's interesting to see that Pokemon Sword and Shield is trying to demonstrate the impact that global warming has on the world through the use of its Pokemon. Hopefully, seeing the creepy version of Corsola will inspire some people to look up the real threat of global warming and take some action. [link] [comments] |
One culled Pokémon family every day until Dexit is reversed - Day 16 Posted: 19 Nov 2019 01:40 AM PST I'm sorry for making Psyduck have such an accurately bad time. 054 Psyduck - 055 Golduck [link] [comments] |
I have a little obsession with drawing Pokemon with only colored pencils... Posted: 19 Nov 2019 06:54 AM PST https://imgur.com/gallery/akwVTsA It started couple months ago and now I have really big urge to draw at least one a month. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Nov 2019 04:03 AM PST It is the definition of poor game design Like..yeah, I would love for my Centiskorch to gain a new form, but I'm not just gonna give up the one I've been raising and training since the beginning of the game to get it All these cool designs could have been made into great mega-evolutions, and the fact that they ditched that amazing concept (the one that got me back into playing Pokémon), is something I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive Game Freak for. (Story spoilers) The villain's plan Posted: 19 Nov 2019 02:50 AM PST Rose wins. Let's go over his plan.
Step three may not be obvious to everyone who played through the story. It requires a bit of thinking: Rose is an accomplished businessman. Why would he fail to weigh the cost-benefit analysis of unleashing a demonic hellmonster onto the world in exchange for solving a problem that won't occur until an unimaginable amount of time in the future? The reason is because he knows Eternatus will be stopped. Pay attention to his dialogue after you defeat him in the power plant: "The champion should have finished catching Eternatus by now." He's not being sly or trying to trick you when he says this. He literally assumes Leon will defeat Eternatus and save the day like always. Every step of Rose's plan is carried out flawlessly. The only place where it hits a snag is in step three, because our Unbeatable Champion fails to defeat Eternatus. But that's okay, because the Unbeatable Champion's younger brother and his rival were able to defeat Eternatus, with the help of the twin Legendary Pokemon that defeated it in ancient times! The same result is achieved and the day is still saved. After this, the only mention of Rose is that we are told he immediately handed himself over to the authorities. He went without a fight, without a complaint, because he had no reason to be upset. He got exactly what he wanted. Eternatus was stopped and he was able to siphon off its energy. We know he got the energy because we see tubes full of it, both in the cutscene where he interrupts the Champion match and down in the power plant! You defeated the villain but that was part of his plan. Look at his team! He's a Steel-type trainer. Leon has a Charizard. Do the math. Every single Pokemon Rose has is weak to Fire, and two of them are Escavalier and Ferrothorn. Rose never expected to get away with anything. He expected to go to jail after accomplishing what he wanted, and that's exactly what happened. Rose won. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Nov 2019 03:54 PM PST (Shoutouts to the /r/Showerthoughts bot and, in extension, the subreddit owners themselves, for believing this to be a common thought, even though I searched multiple times [and here] to see if this had been submitted before.) What will Gamefreak/The Pokemon Company do in the year 300,000 when confronted with this universe-shattering conundrum? [link] [comments] |
The Spaghetti Code Strikes Back! Posted: 18 Nov 2019 09:15 PM PST So it seems Game Freak never learned on how to code textures and models from Sun and Moon (the fright of a thousand Lillies) as miners have found that ever pokemon and their shiny counterpart are SEPARATE MODELS. Instead of calling in different textures, Game Freak made a copy of the pokemon with the texture applied. And this is for every pokemon in the game. Alcremie has 63 forms (I'm not sure if that includes shiny or if every form has a shiny form, if someone knows, let me know.) Even at the least, that is 63 different models saved into the game. This is part of the reason why the game's files are so bloated. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 19 Nov 2019 05:34 AM PST In my opinion I think Pokémon should of just stuck with mega evolutions with each new game adding more. ( especially Pokémon who arent competitive with no evolution lines) I didn't really like Z-Moves, and dynomaxing/gigantamax isnt bad but it almost feels like a different spin on mega evolving. I just wanted to see who else agrees. Eventually having tons of Pokémon with different mega type changes and abilities would be an awesome way to turn tides in battles. Hopefully in an x&y remake we will get more Megas and bring it back [link] [comments] |

Posted: 18 Nov 2019 05:12 PM PST They've been piling up since the day the game was released. Every single time there's an issue, a floating model, a clipping outfit, a snapping camera, a culled player character, continuity errors, plot holes, obvious technical mistakes, the game deleting your SD card data, I hear the same defense in the same rude, reductive, and condescending way.
I have a difficult time telling if these people are being purposefully obtuse or just ordinarily dense but the point should be clear. It's not just one issue. When you see a thread pointing out an obvious mistake or problem, they're not saying that problem ruins the game. They're saying it's a snowflake in the avalanche that we know as Pokemon Sword and Shield. When something comically ridiculous happens, like a character lip syncing to missing song vocals for about twenty uninterrupted seconds straight, we aren't saying that makes it a bad game. We're saying it's another example of what kind of game this is. An extremely hackneyed and unpolished project that shouldn't have been released in its current state. [link] [comments] |
Did you guys know that the champion of the Galar Region, Leon, is unbeatable and undefeated? Posted: 18 Nov 2019 01:26 PM PST I didn't see it posted here and the game hardly mentioned it at all, so I thought I'd let everyone here know that's enjoying this perfect masterpiece of a game! He's also bad at directions and gets lost which is an absolutely hilarious personality trait! Just a couple hard to find easter eggs for all you epic gamers out there. [link] [comments] |

Important: if you had a Roku that stopped working after getting pokemon sword and shield please read Posted: 19 Nov 2019 04:46 AM PST Roku company announced around 12:30 PM Central Time yesterday that there was a bug going around that caused Roku devices to straight up stop working, and if you're like my parents then that means you probably ordered a replacement or went out to buy a different tv instead of trying to figure out a way to fix it, well save that receipt because it turns out the bug was caused by pokemon sword and shield communicating on the same port and something else to which I can't remember, but it's my understanding that the way Nintendo switch communicated with other pokemon players was the same way Roku communicated with others in order to update their system (if one Roku on your network updated before you went to bed, the other Roku on your network will all update overnight without grabbing the update from the internet by taking a copy of the Roku that was up to date) but the problem was Roku was trying to update from sword and shield, this of course crashed the system, and it stopped Roku from starting Altogether. There is now a fix for this, so if you need to fix your Roku, please turn off all Pokemon sword and shield games from your network (maybe disconnect the switch from your network entirely to be sure) then after a minute of having the Roku device unplugged, plug it in, turn it on, and go into the settings and look for the new system update that was rolled out on the 18th. Hope this saves some people a bit of money. I'll try to find the original article I read and link it to the comments. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Nov 2019 06:25 PM PST Forget the review bombings, and yes the games are not trash. The pokemon formula is enjoyable, and millions will enjoy these games. All that being said, the critics for this game as a whole didn't vote this one as highly as past first entries to a generation. Metacritic has been around for mainline pokemon games since Generation 3. Ruby/Sapphire, Diamond/Pearl, Black/White, X/Y, and Sun/Moon are all rated higher than the new Pokemon Sword/Shield. Ruby: https://www.metacritic.com/game/game-boy-advance/pokemon-ruby-version Diamond: https://www.metacritic.com/game/ds/pokemon-diamond-version Black: https://www.metacritic.com/game/ds/pokemon-black-version X: https://www.metacritic.com/game/3ds/pokemon-x Sun: https://www.metacritic.com/game/3ds/pokemon-sun Most reviewer scores weren't impacted by Dexit, Megxit, or Movexsit, but the games still scored lower than any first entry for a generation. If you are wondering where they stand with ALL mainline games, They are tied for the third-worst rating. Emerald: https://www.metacritic.com/game/game-boy-advance/pokemon-emerald-version Black 2: https://www.metacritic.com/game/ds/pokemon-black-version-2 Firered: https://www.metacritic.com/game/game-boy-advance/pokemon-firered-version If we count Let's Go games as Mainline (I do not, but you might), then they are tied for 4th worst: Let's Go Pikachu: https://www.metacritic.com/game/switch/pokemon-lets-go-pikachu! Edit: Added in BW2 Edit2: Games are now at an 82, making them TIED for worst rated out of all FIRST ENTRIES TO A GENERATION. Hope the trolls can read bold text lmao [link] [comments] |
Posted: 19 Nov 2019 05:42 AM PST They made it the crux behind the antagonists motivations in X and Y and they've tried it again in Sword and Shield and what do you know, they're both awful motives. Its the Pokemon world, you have endless creatures roaming around that literally make resources out of nowhere. This generation even, they introduced a Pokemon that literally just produces coal. While there are some Pokemon of note who take energy from the surroundings to attack, the majority can just create fire, electricity, metals or other forms of power out of nothing. Countless Pokemon can produce fruits and edible plants. Why are they trying to force this awful "W-we're going to run out!" plot when its an impossibility in the Pokemon world? [link] [comments] |
I feel like GF is favouriting Scorbunny this Gen. Posted: 19 Nov 2019 05:48 AM PST Alright, first of all, let's look at the level up movesets of the starters individually, as well as their TR and TM moves:
Now looking at their signature moves, Drum Beating and Snipe Shot both have decent power clocking in at 80 BP with 100 accuracy, which is pretty decent, with them both being spammable moves with no drawbacks. But meanwhile for some reason, they basically gave Cinderace a no recoil Flare Blitz, sure it only has 90% accuracy, but it's still gonna hit most of the time, and the 5 PP it has doesn't really matter since that can be bypassed, at least with the Alola starters they all got relatively equal power with good secondary effects. My theory is enforced even more with the fact that Scorbunny seems to be one of the faces of the SW/SH anime, with Ash's new companion owning it, granted Ash could always get a Sobble or Grookey down the road, but for now it's just Pikachu and Scorbunny. I dunno guys, maybe I'm just overthinking it, but all these things piled together with Scorbunny in comparison with the others really makes me feel that I'm justified in my thoughts, we all know who Masuda likes the most out of all the Galar starters after all... Maybe first living dex posted here Posted: 18 Nov 2019 09:27 PM PST So guys, we did it. 400 pokemon. While its not the biggest accomplishment (I did do a living dex in SuMo) i'm kind of proud I wasted my life and my time to get this living dex done. I would have had it over the weekend if not for a few personal matters. I tried to see if anyone else posted here, but I think i'm the first. Now to get all the gigantamax forms. Type Null and Zacian are on my brothers game (he's currently using them, and type:null has an everstone). [link] [comments] |
The thing I hate the most about the end of the main story Posted: 19 Nov 2019 07:39 AM PST When you're back in that forest looking for Zacian and Zamazenta, you enter with Hop and he runs off. You have to follow him and every time you catch up, he runs in front of you again. Then at the very end HE discovers the shrine and HE discovers the important items. This whole story has been about other people doing cool, important things but this was the most infuriating part to me. I don't want this guy who constantly loses to me and has no redeeming qualities to find the only important story location that the main character has been allowed to find! [link] [comments] |
Well... I certainly didn't expect that. Posted: 19 Nov 2019 05:54 AM PST |
Posted: 19 Nov 2019 08:42 AM PST I know this might not be the most impressive feat in Pokemon to date, but it's the first time I hit something with this low odds intentionally and got the desired result. It's no SRing for Full Odds Shiny legends in older gens, but it was still ridiculous how long this took. Over four hours, over 70 resets (I didn't start counting till about 10 or so in so I had to guess the first few), and a lot of times screaming "GET IN THE BALL NEBBY".
As a result, the Beast Ball has always been a 'swag' ball to get Pokemon in, since it has a boosted capture rate against Ultra Beasts, but an absolutely atrocious rate against anything else. And without any UBs in Sword/Shield, it is ONLY a trash ball, and even says so in its description. On top of it all, the cover legendary starts at level 70, and I am aware that there is a mechanic in Sw/Sh in which the capture rate is negatively impacted if you are under the level of what it is you are catching, and I am unsure if it is positively benefited if you are over the level. All of this makes for extremely low odds, and ultimately I'm rather happy with my new sword doggo and his new cool blue ball. (I am also aware of another reddit thread of someone asking for a traded Beast Ball who wanted to do the same thing that I found in researching if there was any more than one ball per game. I am not that person, and wanted to do it before I found his thread) [link] [comments] |
Honesty Leon and Sonia had a more fun adventure than the player. Posted: 18 Nov 2019 09:40 PM PST Sonia gets to run around doing research and solving mysteries and Leon gets to tackle any situation that isn't the Gym Challenge. I was always envious when they would run off and tell me not to worry about any thing but the Gym Challenge cause I wanted to go with them honestly. It would've definitely added more substance to the story. [link] [comments] |
