Is Pokémon ultra sun really that handholding?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 04:11 AM PDT

I've never played a Pokémon game and I'm trying to pick my first. I've done a lot of research and I'm not sure which to pick, either ultra sun or omega ruby. I've been leaning towards ultra sun because I love that Hawaiian island, also love that you can see your own character and the enemy trainer in battle behind their own Pokémon. Love that detail. But I've heard that sun really holds your hand a lot. A lot of cutscenes, no freedom. While the older games were all about freedom to do what you wanted. Is that true? Is it true that sun has no freedom at all?

    Tyrantrum kinda has wasted potential

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 10:16 AM PDT

Tyrantrum has got to be my favorite fossil pokemon ever. I mean, it's a freaking Tyrannosaurus Rex, the most iconic dinosaur and one of the most ferocious creatures to have existed on the planet. And in playthrough and Competitive, it is pretty solid too, with mighty Strong Jaw and Rock Head, slap in a Choice Scarf to see the king of prehistoric Pokemon rule again (at least, that is my opinion)

However, i still think that Tyrantrum has some misopportunities that could be utilized more

    1. The fact that there are no Dragon or Rovk biting moves. At all. And unfortunately, it hurts Strong Jaw Tyrantrum the most cause you are forced to use non-STAB biting moves in order to get Strong Jaw uses

    2. It needs Aerodactyl's treatment. According to the Pokedex, that is not Tyrantrum's true form, and its true form cannot be obtained. Same goes to Aerodactyl. However, it does get a Mega Evolution, which is said to be its true form. And i think of all the Gen 6 mons, Tyrantrum deserves a Mega Evolution the most, in order to see its true form back in the time, a Mega Evolution which would give it back the features on its body, similar to T Rex itself

    So, what do you think?

Are we gonna talk about how the only Pokémon with this cool as hell type combination is a god damn microwave? Like make a Pokémon with this type combo that is ACTUALLY COOL. And if you like heat rotom I have nothing against you. I just want the type combo to be shared.

Scald and Steam Eruption's power should be boosted in the sun

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 12:38 AM PDT

i think about this all the time. they're the only water moves that are heat-based, yet their power is reduced in harsh sunlight. same goes for scorching sands.

i get it's probably because of balancing issues in competitive, but it just makes too much sense for it not to be reality.

I shortened Pokemon's 1st episode down to about a minute

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 09:30 AM PDT

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDS59KbCB68

Inspired by Bing Bong's Yu-Gi-Oh minute episode series, I decided I'd give it a shot with Pokemon. If you got a minute, I'd appreciate the feedback!

By the way, when posting I noticed I couldn't post Video or a Link, even though there are other submissions that are videos. What's up with that?

Should I stop giving nicknames to Pokemon I intend to trade?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 08:38 AM PDT

I play Ultra Moon, and make regular use of the GTS and Wonder Trade features. I'm also one of those people that give all their pokemon nicknames. My personal pokemon all have names related to mythological gods and folkore heroes because I'm a nerd that way but I name pokemon I plan on trading away too.

I try to pick names that are nice, and can be taken seriously -- I'd hate for someone to dislike a pokemon they would otherwise want because they have a silly name. Names I often use for trading pokemon are Greek mythological names since they are so iconic. I also pick names from cultures around the world depending on the vibe the pokemon give. For example, I've been giving my trading Froakies Italian names because I think they would look cool on a Greninja. If I'm having a brain fart and don't want to look anything up, I default to Lyre for girls and Llyr for boys.

I thought that others would be happy to receive a named pokemon. I know I get excited when I get one even if the name isn't my style. However, I rarely see pokemon with nicknames, and I'm starting to have doubts if my practice is as nice a gesture as I thought. Does the average trainer like getting pokemon with nicknames? Should I stop? And to all my international trainers, would you roll your eyes at an American pokemon having a name native to your language (like an Italian getting one of my froakies)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Updated Pokémon play? Pokémon Nintendogs?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 10:49 AM PDT

I've had this idea for a while but I wish there was something that could connect to Pokémon home to which you could transfer Pokémon to and it would be a better Pokémon play (like nintendogs I guess) I've honestly always wanted something where I could play with my mons more instead of having only a few in my party that you can camp with. Maybe it could raise exp or something instead of forever keeping them in the box I just think it's a good idea tell me what you think.

What do you think Game Freaks favorite starter for every region is?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 09:57 PM PDT

    I think it's: Charizard-obviously

Meganium-this was the hardest one, and I'm just saying this because of new snap

Blaziken-He got a mega before both of the Hoenn starters

Infernape?-This was the second hardest, but I'm mainly saying this because of the anime

Sammorott-Oshawatts inclusion in legends Arceus, as well as most interpretations of Oshawatt

    Greninja- Ash Greninja.

Decidueye-For being included in Pokken, Legends, and considered for Smash

Cinderace-Goh has one, and it's in Unite

I went through the first 251 Gen II sprites to see if Crystal took from Gold or Silver

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 06:57 PM PDT

As the title says. I noticed that a lot of the animated sprites in Crystal are based off of sprites from Gold, but not all of them. So I went to Bulbapedia, looked at them all, and Made a list. I put them in the following four categories.

In total, 79 Pokemon - unless I did my math wrong - Pokemon don't use their Gold sprites. A little under a third.

    Based off their Silver Sprite
    Nidoran Female
    Nidorino
    Vulpix
    Oddish
    Parasect
    Mankey
    Primeape
    Arcanine
    Poliwhirl
    Abra
    Tentacool
    Golem
    Cloyster
    Onix
    Hitmonlee
    Goldeen
    Scyther
    Magmar
    Pinsir
    Gyarados
    Ditto
    Eevee
    Vaporeon
    Omastar
    Kabutops
    Snorlax
    Articuno
    Zapdos
    Dragonair
    Totodile
    Croconaw
    Furrett
    Mareep
    Flaaffy
    Bellossom (Complete with new colors)
    Aipom
    Sunkern
    Umbreon
    Murkrow
    Delibird
    Stantler
    Magby
    Celebi

    Completely New Sprite
    Charmeleon
    Pikachu
    Sandshrew
    Jigglypuff
    Vileplume
    Persian
    Tentacruel
    Graveler
    Gengar
    Rhyhorn
    Rhydon
    Chansey
    Kangaskhan
    Electabuzz
    Bayleef
    Quilava
    Ledyba
    Togepi
    Jumpluff
    Forretress
    Ursaring
    Piloswine
    Houndour
    Houndoom
    Raikou (Mainly the new hairdo)

    Same Sprite across all three
    Magnemite
    Magneton
Spinark (Complete with the notable color change)
    Ariados
    Unown
Sneasel (Also had its color changed)
    Swinub
    Entei
    Suicune

Animation combined the Gold and Silver Sprites
    Dunsparce
    Magcargo

Everything that doesn't have its name here had its Crystal Sprite based off of its Gold Sprite.

If you could travel the world with Pokémon irl, or you lived in the Pokémon Universe, what Pokémon would you travel with, and what would their personalities be like?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2021 10:06 PM PDT

If i had pokemon IRL, i would have a team as follows:

Torterra(Ace), Buizel, Bastiodon, Krookodile, Golett, Vulpix

My torterra would be my Ace. Most of the time, he would be very relaxed and chill, but when there is a challenge or a potential battle afoot, he would become very determined and focused. He is very stoic and doesn't give off much emotion, but having him since a turtwig allows me to see through his poker face.

My Buizel is basically my version of Pikachu. He never enters his pokeball. He spends most of his time on my shoulder or weaseling its way around my neck and waist. He gets moderately motivated in battles, but is more of a close friend and partner.

My bastiodon is extremely lazy and gentle hearted. She tends to take lots of naps and enjoys sunbathing and music. That being said, she is very strong, and guven enough motivation, she is capable of moving/breaking obstacles in our way, and can become aggressive when allies are threatened.

My Krookodile has no chill. It is hungry for battle and will even ignore commands at times if given the opportunity to show off/challenge itself. Its battling style is almost savage at times.

Golett is a curious spirit that loves exploring. Sometimes too much for its own good. This is the Pokémon that my bastiodon is the most protective over. This Golett is always looking for new friends to play with and new places to discover and visit. I have learned that the best way to keep its attention, is with music. My Golett is very easily distracted by melodies.

Finally my Vulpix is the ultimate Diva. It never battles, and always expects to be treated like the prince that he is. Anyone that doesn't pamper him accordingly is not worthy of his time. Although he tends to act very bossy, i have learned that his weakness is that he has a serious sweet tooth. He will always pretend that my poke treats arent good enough for him, but the moment i look away, the treat "magically" disappears.

Anyway, what team/pokemon would you have with you?

Edit: omg this blew up!!! I don't have much connection at the moment where i am, but i will look through all of these comments as soon as I can. The ones i have seen so far are all really cool!!! In the meantime i also realized i should add another part to the question:

In addition, what would your irl competitive team be? I will post a comment for my answer later. I'd recommend choosing a team that you actually think you could see yourself catching and training up(cuz that's what I'm going to do) but then again this is for fun, so if you wanna fill your team with legends and mythicals, then I won't try and stop you.

    THANKS AGAIN!!!

    Ghost

    Dragon

Possible Use for Three Types That Fighting Has Never Been Paired With

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 10:37 AM PDT

I am no artist so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to draw these Pokémon designs but if someone can imagine it and draw it it would be interesting to see what they would look like. There are three types that the fighting type has yet to be paired with which are electric, ground, and fairy. I just thought of some way these types could be introduced and it would fit perfectly as a regional variant for Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, and Hitmontop in a future generation. Hitmonchan is deserving of the dual fighting / electric typing because of its access to thunder punch and its boxing gloves could also give it a wide range of other electric moves to use by striking a pose that summons lightning from the sky, thunder punch isn't the best electric type move but suits its punching style, hitmonlee is already suited for kicking and with its strong legs it could then gain access to earthquake, magnitude, and fissure by slamming its legs hard into the ground to make using those moves possible, and as for hitmontop its graceful spinning style could make it perfect as a fighting fairy type running moves like dazzling gleam, fairy wind, and moonblast in addition to its typical fighting moves.

How would you guys feel if Pokémon released an RPG series similar to the Mario and Luigi series?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 07:10 AM PDT

The Mario and Luigi series are one of my favorite RPGs ever. They created unique and interesting characters and most of the games in that series had a better storyline than most Mario games. If Pokémon created a spin-off series that's similar, I'd definitely buy it. They can make turn-based combat actually fun! I'd imagine that the setting and characters would be like Mystery Dungeon, which is already a good game on it's own. Imagine if non-Pokémon characters appeared that are other than humans! How would you guys feel?

    Pokémon Crystal Team

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 07:19 AM PDT

So I'm planning on buying Crystal on my 3ds to play it. I've never played a gen 2 game before and the Johto region along with Galar are the two regions I really don't know much about. So I need some suggestions for Pokémon alongside my starter (which will be Typhlosion). Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

    GMAX wish list for BDSP

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 11:40 AM PDT

If GMax stays , which Mons would you love to see get one, and what signature move would you give it?

I'd give one to Bibarel, making it a bit more prehistoric.

It's signature move would be "construction destruction", where Bibarel would chew and throw a bunch of logs to build a dam, damaging the opponent in the process (60 power). The opponent would be trapped by the dam and unable to switch until after 3 turns or Bibarel switches. When either of those events happen, the dam collapses, damaging (50 power) + reducing the speed of the Pokémon it hits by 1 stage.

Can Limber be bred into a Pokemon?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2021 09:58 AM PDT

I have a Ditto that has the Limber ability and I want to breed a Buneary that has Limber. Since Limber is a Hidden Ability for Buneary, is it even possible to breed it into a Buneary or would I have to try and catch a Limber Buneary? If it can be bred, would it matter if the Buneary I breed with Ditto is male or female? Is there a particular item either of them has to hold? This is for Sword and Shield btw.
