This week's Pokemon is Cramorant!

#845 Cramorant (Japanese ウッウ Uu)

Gulp Pokémon

It's so strong that it can knock out some opponents in a single hit, but it also may forget what it's battling midfight. This hungry Pokémon swallows Arrokuda whole. Occasionally, it makes a mistake and tries to swallow a Pokémon other than its preferred prey.

Cramorant's Base Stats:

HP: 70
Attack: 85
Defense: 55
Sp. Attack: 85
Sp. Defense: 95
Speed: 85

Introduction:

Cramorant has a very interesting niche in its ability Gulp Missile. With the ability to chunk a quarter of HP and either lowering the target's defense by one stage (if Cramorant has over half HP) or paralyzing the target (if Cramorant has under half HP) after using Surf or Dive, it can cause hesitation for the opponent to attack directly. In order for this niche to be effective, Cramorant has to successfully pull off Surf or Dive, which can be difficult if the opponent outspeeds and can take down Cramorant. Aside from that, there isn't much going for Cramorant; its stats are mediocre, it has no reliable stat-boosting moves, and it doesn't learn pivotal moves like U-turn. Furthermore, while its ability is unique, it forces Cramorant to opt for Surf instead of Liquidation or Hydro Pump. It also poses a threat to itself by trying to eat an entire Pikachu.
